For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

...but there are certainly worse suits to pick from...much worse
Like you Slain I also think the Musukogoji suit used in Son Of Godzilla is the worst G suit of all Godzilla films. Not so much the body of the suit but the head. I'm presuming Toho wanted to "soften", or maybe "domesticate" Godzilla's countenance for this movie, because of the monster's interaction with Minya, whose rendering, both visual and audio, I also disliked. "Papa" Godzilla looked more goofy, IMO than "fatherly".
Topic: I thought Anguirus' roar was best rendered in GRA over his other film appearances.
I'll have to rewatTopic: I thought Anguirus' roar was best rendered in GRA over his other film appearances.
I'll have to rewatch this at some point because I'm not sure if his roar was better or worse but I've always found that Anguirus has always had a great roar...while not the most iconic Godzilla monster his roar is one of the bast and as I've made it no secret is one of my favourite monsters.

Does anyone know how they made Anguirius' roar?
It was made in similar fashion to Godzilla's: a resin coated glove was dragged over a bass(string) of some kind.
This is an excerpt of an Akira Ifukube interview posted at Monster Zero:
Quote:
For the roar of Godzilla, I took out the lowest string of a contrabass and then ran a glove that had resin on it across the string. The different kinds of roars were created by playing the recording of the sound that I'd made at different speeds

Thanks....I've always wondered how the created those interesting roars. You really have to hand it to the creativity of the sound crew the really came out with very creative ideas for those kinds of things and it's really an example of thinking outside of the box...particularly in those days

Thanks for posting that. Any idea about King Ghidorah? The Orignal, that is.
I haven't seen any content on the internet that explains, in specifics, how the audio effects for Showa Ghidrah's roar was made. I'll keep an eye out for any such info. ;)

I have to say...GRA is probably the only Godzilla movie that I like the American version over the Japanese version. The American version seems to have "more life" to it to me. The narration in the American version helps move things along. But I can easily watch both with no problems :)

I think part of it is that the American Version actually has some-what of a music score in it. The Japanese version only has 2 tracks I can Remember hearing.

Yea there is definitely more music...and more sound. I mean there are times in the movie where I thought I lost sound because it was so quiet confused

I disagree, IMO the American Version took away the life of the film and made it more messed up then Tokyo after Godzilla's rampage.
Hmm looks like we are seeing this from different angles...but each their own. American or Japanese, either way it's still one of my top 5 Godzilla movies thumbs up

This film is real unique! In a real weird way, It had a different feel to it, than other Godzilla films. the american version may be one of the worst Godzilla films. the japanese, may be oneof the best. eiji Tsuberiya is at his best in this film, better destruction scenes, nice optical effects, i meen really good ones, the milatary wepons look better, and so do most of the explosions. akira ifukube is absent in the film, and the music is sub par and a bit cheesy. godzilla looks great, and angurius looks bad, but actually scarier then his 1968 counterpart. it's a weird movie, but thats what i like about it.

the american version is terrible, and in my top 10 worst godzilla films
I've seen a lot of disdain for the American version of GRA. The American version of this movie is not nearly as good, IMO as the original Toho version but I'm curious as to your reasons for blasting the American, English dubbed version of Godzilla Raids Again.

I wonder myself...like you said the American version isn't touching the original but people treat it like has the plague. I don't think it's that bad (or great)...I can watch a few times easily.

ok packmule, trentonfella, i have my own opinions to make this film bad, they may not seem bad to you, but to me, makes a terrible flick.
1# the movie is narrated thoughout, never has a godzilla film been like that, and it's the least bit exciting, dulling the film. 2# godzilla's roar is anguirius, at times, how annoying. 3# some of the worst dubbing ever! 4# the movie is trying to show it's not godzilla, it's obvous he is, and they called him gigantis!!!! 5# proprobly the worst part is the heavy use of stock footage, especially the dinosaur stop motion thing, it was terrible! 6# apparently this is the same godzilla as the first. those be my reasons.

I'm pretty sure they make it clear that's a different Godzilla from the original movie. But I understand why you don't like it, the insertion of the dinosaur stop motion was kind of odd to be honest but it was a decent segway into introducing Godzilla/Gigantis

i always find it hilarious in old films when they say stuff in the trailer, like "THE most terrifying thing your eyes behold!" i meen most of that stuff is the complete oppisote. lol.
My only dislike about the Japanese version of this film is the lake of a music score. it's got a few good tracks, but through much of the film, you don't hear it.
