I don't watch many comedies anymore. I'm not really sure why. I consider myself someone with a reasonable sense of humor. I grew up watching sitcoms like Sanford And Son, All In The Family, and Three's Company, three of my favorites, along with the Dean Martin Roasts, the latter still my all-time favorite funny television show. As for movies I grew up on the likes of Blazing Saddles, History Of The World-Part 1, and Young Frankenstein. My favorite comedy film remains National Lampoon's Animal House(1978). This movie is, IMO, a comic classic, chronicling the escapades of an academically-challenged fraternity at Faber College circa 1962. The members of this frat are motley to say the least- "Otter", always on the prowl for some female companionship, "Daniel Simpson Day", the guy with no grade-point-average who rides his motorcycle through the frathouse and likes to play around with his blow-torch, and "Blutarski"(played by John Belushi), the lovable, whiskey-chugging slob who likes foodfights. I love this movie. So tell me about your favorite comedy film and television series and why you like it so much. :D

Ferris Buhler's Day Off is a comedy classic. Spaceballs, Ghostbusters, Animal House, and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle are good too.

Fav. sitcom is easily Seinfeld. :P

I use to be a Saturday night live fan, back in the Belushi days; Jane Curtain; etc. - it could alway bring a laugh. Other comedies I enjoyed; three's company was great (the Ropers, what a couple!); Mash- I still like to occasionally watch the reruns, even though I've seen them a dozen times (probably more); and way way back, Hogan's Hero's. More recently I haven't been much of a comedy watcher- I think I've gotten too caught up in the Law and Order/ CSI in any form frame of mind. As for comedies as movies; The few I've watched- anything with Adam Sandler (currently watching Mr. Deeds; also really enjoy Happy Gilmore :D ); he's a riot. I did enjoy Ghost Buster movies; Tim Allen movies are always hilarious; Also, hard to believe, Arnold Schwartzenager in Kindergarten Cop; Also Jingle all the way. Hard to believe he could be so funny.

Not sure if it's my favorite comedy film, but it sure ranks right up there....The Pink Panther Strikes Again. I really had never watched any of the Pink Panther films and had no desire to watch any, but one evening, I was still in high school and spending the night with my grandparents and they coaxed me into the den with them to watch this film. They kept assuring me that this was hilarious and although both grandparents had a great sense of humor, I had my doubts. Well, it wasn't long and I was laughing as much and as hard as the two of them....that was a great evening.

As for favorite comedy TV series, I loved, All In the Family when Mike and Gloria were still living with Archie and Edith and I'm also a fan of, M*A*S*H when Frank was still part of the camp. The Golden Girls are also a lot of fun and I Love Lucy has long been a favorite of mine.

...also really enjoy Happy Gilmore

Indeed. Happy Gilmore(1996) is a funny movie-among the film's highlight's for me: Happy Gilmore Vs Bob Barker. I have posted a "rematch" of this battle in the site's Fantasy Match forum, in case you're interested in how I think the rematch would turn out eyebrow

I sure will check it out.

Though I would have preferred Mr. Gilmore to win in the movie itself, I have to give Bob Barker credit for whipping Mr. Gilmore's ***. freak out

I'm sure in real life Happy would have kicked Bob's hiney...... Let's face it; Bob Barker is a bit past the fighting age.

I usually hate comedies, but there are a couple that I like:
Shaun of the d ead
Undercover Brother
Kung Pow: Enter the Fist

Oh, and nothing (TV show wise) beats Seinfeld as the best TV comedy.

With the possible exceptions of his legal battles, including one of his former lovers-it was one of the women who used to work on The Price Is Right, I believe. I also understand Bob Barker is a tireless advocate for PETA related charities(for the humane treatment of animals). Old Bob still has some kick in him, though probably not enough anymore for Happy Gilmore. crazy

Matthew, did you like Dumb And Dumber(1994)? I thought Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, in this movie, elevated stupidity to an art form.

I know my Mom used to be crazy for, Everybody Loves Raymond and while I was never a huge fan, I can take the series in small doses. Now, I sometimes channel surf and come across it and linger a bit.... ;)

Hmmm, comedy... Well, I don't usually watch much comedy since I'm usually dissappointed, BUT there are some very good comedy films, my favourites are probably:

1) Monty Python's: The Quest For The Holy Grail
2) Ghostbusters.

Blackadder is, according to me, the funniest comedy series in history. As for movies, I choose the Quest for the Holy Grail by Monty Python. Had me laughing the entire ride.

Another good scene is one that film features the brave knight Sir Robin, he's accompanied by his favourite minstrels that sing this song throughout most of the scene:

"Bravely bold Sir Robin rode forth from Camelot.
He was not afraid to die,
O brave Sir Robin.
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways,
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin!

He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp,
Or to have his eyes gouged out and his elbows broken,
To have his kneecaps split and his body burned away
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Robin!

His head smashed in and his heart cut out
And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged
And his nostrils raped and his bottom burned off
And his penis..."

Then Sir Robin interrupts them.
The Life Of Brian is good too. Mr Green

Rather than delete this post, as I have a couple of others you've made that were unintelligible, I'm going to make a request here: would the next person posting in this topic translate to me what the quote in this post means. Thank you in advance.

South park is a brilliant comedy series, got loads of DVDs.

There are many classic British comedy series and films; anything from Monty Python is instantly a true classic. The blackadder series are all absolutely fantastic, too!

Only fools and horses is a long running British sit-com about two brothers from London who are always out looking for easy money. Nearly every episode ends with them getting scammed

The recent passing of comedian Dick Martin got me thinking about another TV series I relished watching as a teenager, with my father: the Dean Martin "Roasts". Various guests were parodied by Dean Martin and a bevy of other comics and entertainers.

Some clips from that show-

Ruth Buzzi during the roast of singer/actor Frank Sinatra: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xj-cfXahoLU
