Well, the NBA All Star Game has come and gone, and it's back to the gindstone as NBA teams begin the second half of the season. For many teams, like my hometown Atlanta Hawks, who by virtue of their miserable W-L record are hopelessly out of playoff contention, these games are played for pride, and for getting some of the younger players more time on the court. Other teams are in the playoff hunt. Discuss the playoff scramble here, anything and everything related to playoff contending teams. Packmule's observations thus far: Detroit Pistons remain, IMO, the team to beat in the Eastern Conference. Other East team lurking: Miami Heat-----In the Western Conference I believe the San Antonio Spurs are the best, with Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns lurking. Opinions? How are the trades shaping up in regards to the teams trying to get to the postseason?

I'm looking at a repeat of last year's Fnals: Pistons vs Spurs. The Dallas Mavericks are a real surprise this year. As far as Miami goes, I don't know. Shaq is so injury prone. If he goes down again it's gonna hurt them.

Indeed. In Packmule's opinion any serious injury to Shaq that puts him on the bench = not much playoff success for Miami. As huge and sometimes unstoppable as Shaquille O'Neal is, so many teams throw their bench big men at him, night after night, to try and wear him down. The wear and tear on him from these team's defensive strategies must be frustrating for him as a player.

From the West the Big 3 are: Spurs, Mavs and Suns....after that I don't know...it could be anyone...but what's shocking is that the Clippers have a shot of getting in :o From the East: Pistons, Heat and I don't know who the 3rd team I don't know...maybe the Nets. It's still pretty wide open for both conferences at this point.

Considering the Los Angeles Clippers miserable history, it is indeed shocking that they might actually make the playoffs-I would root for them but I do not like their owner very much-in Packmule's opinion the Clippers owner=complete jackass. <_<

Dallas' Mark Cuban!  Now THAT man is a jackass.

Indeed. My initial impressions of Mark Cuban were that he was a fan of his own team, willing and able to spare no expense to keep the fan's happy and the players on his team happy. After years of observing this guy I now believe he has transcended human form and become one of the less glamorous members of our planet's animal kingdom, though not a jackass...the emoticon will give you a hint as to the animal: groink! .... tongue-1

I'm not sure who else will be in the playoffs, but it will be the Pistons all the way. They not only have the best WL record, but being from Michigan, I'd say I have to be a bit more than a little swayed on my opinion. B)

The Detroit Pistons have become, somewhat quietly and workmanlike, one of the best organizations in the NBA. I say this honestly, and maybe with some envy, as the basketball team from my hometown, the Atlanta Hawks, continue to wallow like flounder on a beach. Though there W-L record is slightly better, they will return to the NBA Draft Lottery in the off-season, and probably draft another 6'8" swingman=Hawks continue to be the NBA's worst team. :ph43r:

Playoff predictions-now that we're down to the final eight teams here are mine:

Eastern Conference
New Jersey Nets Vs Miami Heat-Miami wins this series in six games, though it would not surprise me to see it go to a 7th game.
Detroit Pistons Vs Cleveland Cavaliers-Detroit wins this series in five games-if LeBron James has some truly "monster" games it might go six games

Western Conference
LA Clippers Vs Phoenix Suns-Phoenix wins series in six games
Dallas Mavericks Vs San Antonio Spurs-San Antonio wins in seven games
Mr Green
