Congratulations to the Miami Heat on winning the 2006 NBA championship. The MVP of the series was Dwayne Wade, who averaged 34 points and 10 rebounds a game for his team, which won the best-of-seven series in six games from the Dallas Mavericks. I was glad to see Shaquille O'Neal get another ring, his fourth(he got three with the Lakers), and in particular Alonzo Mourning, the Heat backup center who definitely made his presence felt defensively in the Finals, as well as chipping in with 4 pts/4 rebounds a game. Mourning, who returned to basketball after a medically-related hiatus due to a potentially life-threatening kidney problem, won his first ring after 12 years in the league. Many questioned whether Mourning could be an effective player again after his recovery from his kidney ailment(which required a kidney transplant). Mourning perservered, and has been justly rewarded-IMO he has done one hell of a job to get to this point from where he was during his hospitalization and subsequent recovery. Well done Zo! And well done Miami Heat! thumbs up |

Believe it or not, his name is spelled "Dwyane". You'd think someone at the hospital would've corrected that when he was named. lol |

Correct you are Dan. His name is spelled just as you pointed out. Miscellaneous NBA crapola: I was dismayed by the departure of the Detroit Piston's Ben Wallace. Wallace, arguably the best rebounder, shot blocker and interior defender in the game, was lured away by the Chicago Bulls. Now that Wallace is now on their roster the Bulls must certainly be considered, at the very least, a threat to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals. What other Eastern Conference teams might join them as conference finals contenders? The Pistons might be in the mix again, as well as the Miami Heat, if Pat Riley returns to coach this team again. I also believe the Indiana Pacers might be better this upcoming year than many are predicting. |

As the 2006/7 NBA season starts to wind down the Western Conference, again, looks to be the stronger conference, by leaps and bounds. The Western Conference already has a 60 game winner+ in the Dallas Mavericks, and five to six more teams look to close the season with 50+ wins. The Eastern Conference is convoluted and mediocre. It's possible the bottom three playoffs seeds(out of eight) will have substantially losing records entering the playoffs. eyebrow In the Western Conference, and IMO, the teams with the best chance to win the NBA titles are: Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, Phoenix Suns, or Utah Jazz. The "darkhorse": the LA Lakers. In the Eastern Conference, and also IMO, the teams with the best chance of making it to the NBA Finals are: the Detroit Pistons and the Miami Heat. The "darkhorse": the Cleveland Cavaliers.

I was thinking pretty much the same thing-any chance the Spurs get to the Finals? They've been playing awfully well as of late. eyebrow |

The Spurs could be champs again but the Mavs look awfully nice to me. I really thought last year was their year but this year they have been dominant for the most part. I see it this way though....Mavs/Suns/Spurs are the top teams...which ever team avoids the other 2 on their way to the conference finals will go to the NBA Finals. Another thing I want to throw into the discussion...Chris Bosh might be one of the most underrated players in the NBA. |

And I'll throw this into the discussion: I think you're right. Chris Bosh, who played collegiate ball right here in Atlanta, GA at Georgia Tech, is quietly becoming a very good NBA player. Correct me if I'm wrong Trent but didn't Bosh recently have a monster game against somebody? I remember reading his stats, which definitely raised an eyebrow. His stats this year, in which he is averaging just over 22 points and 10 rebounds per game = a player who comes to work every night. Here's more stats on Chris Bosh: Chris Bosh stats at Yahoo Sports |

If he wasn't on the Raptors (who have become quite a team lately) he would be getting a lot of attention. But he has been playing great basketball almost since he's been in the league. The Draft Class of 2003 has shown itself to be very deep in talent...maybe even the best draft class ever shocking |

A good call and excellent observation. I found some info on this class, which includes, besides up and coming Chris Bosh, stellar players LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Dwyane Wade. Here's the wikepedia link about the NBA Class of 2003: NBA Class of 2003 |

Even the 2nd rounders have become key players such as: Kyle Korver, James Jones, Keith Bogans and Jason Kapono to name a few. |

Well, another dismal season is about to come, mercifully, to a close for the Atlanta Hawks. This team will finish, yet again, with a sub .400 winning percentage for the season. I used to ask myself what The Atlanta Spirit Group, a group of wealthy businessmen who own the Hawks, saw in GM Billy Knight, who has used the last several draft lotteries on 6'6" plus swingmen who are athletic, can rebound, and also, collectively, cannot shoot worth a tinker's damn. Lost in Knight's draft philosophy is the fact an NBA team needs an effective point guard and a good shooting guard-the Hawks have Joe Johnson, which addresses the shooting guard position very nicely. Aside from that everyone else appears to be still "developing". It is my hope that the Atlanta Hawks owners "develop" this idea in their short term plans for this team: fire Billy Knight. In my opinion the Hawks ownership would be wise to go beyond showing Knight the door: they need to show Knight the airport. On a more pleasant note regarding this team, in fact the only one I have had recently, I took a look at the Hawks cheerleaders, who were, as I expected, all very good-looking ladies. Here's my favorite Trent. Her name's Libby: ![]()

Not a bad pick, I have to go view the rest of the cheerleaders before I handout grades...but 95% of pro-level cheerleaders look good....even when they aren't caked up with make up :<!--emo&lol:--> |

Two interesting links: Road To The Finals To Go Through Dallas Hawks Player Suspended For Outburst IMO Smith's outburst is the result of frustration over another losing season. |
