Well, the 2009-2010 NBA season is off and running. My Celtics are off to a nice start defeating the Cleveland Lebrons on the road and blasting the Bobcats in their home opener. Speaking of Cleveland, the Cavs are off to an 0-2 start. Looks like that Shaq-Lebron tag team is gonna take a little longer to gel.

Call me a hater but I hope the Cavs crash and burn this year. They are already saying Lebron will be the MVP again and the Cavs will get to the NBA Finals...makes me sick. I really wish the NBA would stop trying to push LBJ as the next MJ. There are way too many stars now in the NBA to only push one.

I'm tired of the NBA promoting games on television by simply pushing the name of the star player on the team and showing constant highlight reels of one guy dunking. American basketball seems to have gotten so far away from the concept of "team" and is so much more based on paying attention to one individual. And over the years, this behavior has reflected upon the teams themselves. Nowadays you get players standing around the court waiting to see what the star player is going to do with the ball and hoping for the opportunity to grab a rebound if he misses. I hate to admit that in the seasons immediately after Shaq left the Lakers, that's all they did was stand around waiting to see what Kobe was going to do. They won a championship when they all finally learned how to complement one another.

I'm hoping the addition of Jamal Crawford helps the Atlanta Hawks reach 50+ wins this season. The players, and head coach Mike Woodson, told reporters at the advent of this season that they want to post a winning road record this year. The Hawks were a stellar 31-10 at home last year but only managed a 16-25 record on the road. Assuming the Hawks can play even .500 on the road then that, coupled with another .750 win percentage playing at home should position the Hawks for 55 wins or more.

Speaking of additions, Rasheed Wallace has been a great addition to my Celtics. He's been nothing short of very good coming off the bench and giving the Celts some points inside and outside the paint. He'll win the Sixth Man Award if he keeps this up.

I don't think you can really blame the NBA. It's the media mainly and coorporate america in general. Like Jordan, Lebron (like it or not) is the NBA's "biggest" star now. And the media and the endorsers just all want a piece of him. When the Jordan machine started rolling in the mid to late 80's, the NBA still had stars like Bird, Magic, Ewing, Barkley, Drexler, Dominique, Malone, etc. (and more during his time in the 90's) Jordan was just the brightest star during those times. Just like Lebron. I guarantee you if Kobe (who I still think is the best player on the planet) was playing for an Eastern Conference team that is a household name, and didn't have that trouble in Colorado, he would have the equal push that Lebron is getting. It's just the nature of the business. I know we're still a long way from this, but what is everyones feeling on here about Lebron playing for the Knicks or the Nets next season? He won't win a title right away playing for those two teams, but does anyone else think that they'll try to pair Lebron with another big name free agent next year to get them to be title contenders that much faster? And Jay Z wants Lebron in New York bad. Whether it's for the Knicks or the Nets.

You make a good point, lately the NBA has done away with the team concept. Which is why I'll always favor football over basketball because of the lack of the team concept.

I don't think Lebron will leave the Cavs for either team UNLESS the Nets or the Knicks can sign another star (like Wade or Bosh) that can help them win very soon and very quickly. I can't see him leaving to be with a team that is rebuilding (which both teams are currently doing). Wade might be the first player from that class to leave his team.

Former Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers all-star center Kareem Abdul Jabbar is being treated for leukemia. Jabbar, a member of the NBA's Hall Of Fame and widely considered one of the greatest centers to ever play in the league, was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia by doctors. Jabbar has said that doctors have told him his prognosis is good and that the disease can be treated and managed. Read more: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4640518

Best wishes to Kareem Abdul Jabbar as he works to manage this affliction.

I'm kinda 50/50 on whether Wade leaves Miami. They have a nice young team right now, but will Wade leave to go somewhere else to win right away?
And Lebron has stated that getting the max contract will not be more important than winning. So I guess the question is will he go to a team that already has an established star to pair up with or will he go to a team to be paired up with a player like Wade or Bosh? Here's the list of the UFA class of 2010.

Joe Johnson
Ray Allen
Manu Ginobili
Marcus Camby
Tracey McGrady
Shaquille O'Neal
Brad Miller
Stephen Jackson
Jermaine O'Neal
Mike Miller
Rip Hamilton

And here's the list of players that can opt out of their contracts in 2010.

Yao Ming (owed 17.7 million in 10/11)
Amare Stoudamire (owed 17.7 million in 10/11)
LeBron James (owed 17.2 million in 10/11)
Dwayne Wade (owed 17.0 million in 10/11)
Chris Bosh (owed 17.1 million in 10/11)
Dirk Nowitzki (owed $21.5 million in 10/11)
Josh Howard (owed $11.8 million in 10/11)
Mike Redd (owed $18.3 million in 10/11)
Tyson Chandler (owed $12.8 million in 10/11)

Some interesting names to say the least.

I'm pretty sure Wade and Bosh will move unless both go deep into the playoffs. There are a lot of quality free agents in 2010 however will the money be there?

I can see the following people moving on from their old teams:

Stoudamire
Wade
Bost
Redd
Joe Johnson
McGrady
Stephen Jackson

Starting next season, Lebron will no longer wear the number of his favorite player, #23. As he thinks Jordan's #23 should be retired league wide. The new number he'll be wearing next season? #6. The number of his second favorite player, (and one of mine too believe it or not) Doc, aka, The Doctor, aka Dr. J, aka, Julius Erving. Sincere? Or future marketing ploy for his new future team?

I think it's a waste of time altogether...I certainly don't care what number he wears...show me the championship rings!
