This was posted at Toho Kingdom today: a USA TODAY article states that Classic Media will be releasing Gojira(1954), the uncut original version of the film, re-mastered and subtitled, on 9/5/06. It will be the first time the original version of this film has been officially released in the U.S.-the release will also include the American version(1956) starring Rayond Burr. The disc will sell for around $22. Also, Classic Media announced that it will release, on the same day, a box set of 6 more Toho kaiju films, all re-mastered and in widescreen format. The box will retail for around $70. This is very good news indeed. :)

Great news, guess I'd better start saving my pennies, now. ;) I wonder what films will be in this $70 boxset?

While this is speculation on my part I would think it would include Godzilla Raids Again(1955), Ghidrah The Three Headed-Monster(1964), and War Of The Gargantuas(1966). I base this on rumors and other gab being thrown around on the larger kaiju boards. I think you can count on these three being in the box-as to the other three I will continue to monitor this topic for updates. Update: 3/11/06-the answer to your question can be found at www.scifijapan.com-the most current info on the Classic Media releases KF :)

And, may I say, you're doing a dandy job of it, too. ;)

I love finding new links to sites that are all about these films and such, great fun exploring all a site has to offer.

Thanks. Here are some other sites you might check out: Henshin!Online, Tokyomonsters.com, Toho Kingdom(the site is outstanding), Barry's Temple Of Godzilla, The Shrine Of Gamera, Monsterlandtoys.com, and www.kensforce.com ----I would "google" them all, if you have not seen them. If you have any problems accessing any of these sites let me know.

Latest official CM update: on 9/5/06 Gojira(1954)/Godzilla King Of The Monsters(1956) will be released on DVD. On 11/7/06 Godzilla Raids Again(1955) and Godzilla Vs Mothra(1964) will be released on DVD. As yet there is no official release date for the Box set of six(6) titles.

Look for a re-release of Rodan(1956) in 2007. Also, as Classic Media has bought out UPA look for DVD region 1 releases of Frankenstein Conquers The World(1965) and War Of The Gargantuas(1966) in 2007 also. thumbs up

There is nothing definitive right now Kimi, about a Region 1 DVD release of this 1961 film. I have, as I always do, monitored other sites(and member comments tongue-1 ) regarding rumors of DVD releases and such. The last commentary I saw posted about Mothra(1961) was that Columbia Pictures, which still owns the U.S. rights to the film, has in their possession a beautiful print of the movie, and that there is reason to believe that, within the next 1-2 years, a region 1 DVD release might happen. eyebrow

Though there are many of these films, yet to be released on Region 1 DVD, that are probably not going to be released, anytime soon(if ever), Mothra(1961) is not, IMO, one of them. With the Classic Media releases, the recent Tokyo Shock releases, the BCI Ultraman DVD that came out, and even the Universal two pack of KK Vs Godzilla and KK Escapes, both in letterbox, there seems to be more of an acknowledgement from the companies owning the rights to these films that there is a market for these films, in widescreen and with decent extras. Remember too the Sony releases of the "Godzilla" films we have seen in the last year, in addition to the 2007 scheduled re-release of RODAN and WOTG and FCTW. Mothra(1961) is coming Kimi, but it may take a year or two to get here.

One last note about Mothra(1961): several years ago the 1962 Columbia Pictures release of Mothra was shown on TCM: the opening credits were letterbox, but then the movie switched to full frame(1.33:1). I have periodially checked TCM's website for this title but it is not currently scheduled to air anytime soon. A while back I gave you a link by which to purchase an excellent DVD-R of this film. If you still have it okay-if not I can send it to you again by PM. :)
