I just didn't like that Mothra died. Very sad. and that Godzilla got the drill thing to the stomach

It sure does get redundant watching Mothra get killed in these movies, doesn't it? I didn't like the "drill" sequence either. Imagine if this had been a "Gamera" movie with a scene like that: there'd be green blood everywhere. freak out

No joke there, lol. But I wonder it Godzilla died at the end or just layed at the bottom of the ocean

Kind of hard to tell. I guess Toho wanted it that way. I liked the younger "Chujo" in Godzilla Tokyo SOS(2003) but I didn't sympathize with, or cheer for, him as much as I did Akane Yoshiro(played by Yumiko Shaku) in 2002's Godzilla X Mechagodzilla.

While this has never been my favourite era for Godzilla one thing I liked about this film which most people seem to criticize most people it is Mothra....sure her screen time showed a lack of new ideas but the puppet for Mothra was the best she's ever looked particularly how fluid the wings flapped which looked quite convincing.

GMK Mothra looked very good (when she wasn't CGI) but I think her wings still had a stiffness that all the previous version had where asI think Mothra's wings in this film seemed too looks more like it's catching wind through it more realistically and seemed to look like the worked more like a real Moth.....though at the same time they were probably alot less durable

I see. On the subject of larval mothra incarnations, I thought the larval mothra looked best in Mothra Vs Godzilla(1964) and also Mothra(1961) and Godzilla Tokyo SOS(2003). I wasn't so enamored with the larva's movements in Godzilla Vs Mothra(1992) or in GMK. Your opinion on the larval Mothra versions? heyo

We always cheer on girls more than we cheer on guys!

That said, I really liked the Kiryu saga and I wish they'd kept building on that timeline instead of spurting out Final Wars, which though enjoyable, can't match the feeling of a "serious" film.

actually the Favourite larval Mothra puppets in general were Mothra Vs Godzilla(1964) and Godzilla Tokyo SOS...I haven't had the fortune of seeing the original Mothra film yet as I hear it's pretty good. I'll agree that the Mothra both Larval and full grown didn't look great in Godzilla Vs Mothra(1992) as the Larval form looks abit simple but I did like the little hairs underneath that was a good detail and the full grown version looked far too much like a plush toy...either way I was still pretty fond of the film. As for GMK Larval Mothra....it looked okay but not great from what little we saw of it....maybe had I'd seen it for a longer time my oppinion would be different.

Another scene I was fond of is that way Mothra comunicates to the Larval forms before sacrificing herself to save them as to say "Goodbye".....I actually liked the fact she got to actually see the larvae for once.

On a side note I didn't much care for Mothra's rather inconsistent appreance of Mothra in Godzilla Final Wars the few shots of it that weren't CG it would look too shaggy from some angles and not hairy enough on others. Easily the weakest Mothra rendition in the Millennium series.

Hiroshi Koizumi's appearance in the 2003 Millennium G film was a very nice touch. Koizumi was born in 1926 so he would have been in his mid thirties when he appeared in 1961's Mothra and about seventy seven for "SOS". What I liked was the fact he was reunited with his longtime friend Jerry Ito and the two men were able to spend some quality time together before Mr. Ito's death last year.

Y'know, I just don't care for any of Tezuka's Godzilla films (Megaguirus, X Mechagodzilla, TSOS). I just think they're standard Heisei-era fare. They have nothing important to say and simply come off as re-hashes of previous, much better Godzilla movies. At least with the other Millennium movies (G2K, GMK, GFW) the envelope was being pushed and new ideas were attempted. Tezuka's films were more of the same-old, same-old.

Was Jerry Ito in Tokyo SOS Too?

No. I should have clarified better. My apologies. Jerry Ito attended many events promoting Godzilla and these kaiju films, including Godzillafest in 2004, a week long Godzilla promo event held in San Francisco, CA which was also attended by (the late) Mr. Ito's "Mothra" co-stars Ed Keane and Hiroshi Koizumi, a happy reunion for these three men indeed, especially Jerry Ito and Hirsoshi Koizumi, who, despite their on screen acrimony in the 1961 Toho film Mothra, became good friends off camera, a friendship that would last a lifetime, as it turns out.

Mr. Ito's overall health began to deteriorate in 2006 and he died last year.

Click the link to read a truly marvelous article, at Sci-Fi Japan, about the life and career of the late Jerry Ito: http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2007/07...wonderful-life/

This article includes a statement made by Hiroshi Koizumi regarding the death of his friend.
