Hard to explain,to be honest, why I find the Millenium films a bit cold and heartless. A strange comment I know! Perhaps it's that, for the most part,I don't find the human characters as interesting as the ones in some of the older films, and therefore I don't really care much about them. Or perhaps it's that I don't seem to care much about Godzilla in the Millenium films,he's just a giant menace and that's it. In The Showa films and even sometimes in the Heisei films,a lot of effort was put into getting us to care about Godzilla, and not just in the films where he was a 'good guy'. Even when he was the enemy, there was often a certain amount of pathos to him, and he was characterised as more than just a destructive monster. Little touches made him likable and almost relatable even when he's smashing everything in sight. Of course this may have gone too far in some of the Showa films, with Godzilla doing dropkicks, talking and other silly stuff, but it's one of the things that got me into Godzilla as a kid. He had personality,he wasn't just a huge beast.

Hope this makes some sense lol!

Like you I like the human cast of characters in most of the Showa Godzilla films much more than in the Heisei or Millennium films...the exceptions being "Miki Saegusa"(the Heisei G movies) and "Akane Yashiro"(in 2002's Godzilla X Mechagodzilla), two strong female characters I have always greatly liked and admired, played by Megumi Odaka and Yumiko Shaku, respectively.

I also believe Godzilla has more "character" and "personality" in many of the Showa and Heisei G movies than in the Millennium films. winky

This movie can do wonders. For example: my Vietnemese friend who just got a youtube account found out about mine. He asked me to bring over a film - and keeping in mind that he liked the chogokin Kiryu in my collection vid - I picked this film. I think I have made a fan out of him again (he did have the games till he pawned them, which every time he mentions it I do a facepalm). Thanks Tokyo SOS. Thanks.

Here's a thought: a Showa Godzilla film on DVD might also help make your friend a Godzilla fan. I'm surprised you didn't choose to show your friend GMK, considering how many repeated props you've heaped on it. CrowT1

I wanted him to pick the first film. The second film will be King Ghidorah, but the third I will chose. I do not want to seem like I am telling him to watch these films. Plus it gives me more time to ask his father if we could watch GMK in the living room for the amazing 5.1 surround sound. Plus I want to get the cheesiness out of him. Like he would occasionaly do the occasional "Oh no! It's Godzeela!" thing as a joke. I have tollerated it, taking into mind that these films are for the most part not to be taken too seriously, but to watch GMK I want him serious. And if I show him any Showa films, it would have to be the first one. The rest have good plots but for someone who is not a fan but rather someone who "enjoys" kaiju, I would need to show them this stuff stategically.

I found this interesting. If people think that the stand for the blu-rays in that store in Akhirabara, Tokyo, Japan was impressive, the link has something even more impressive IMO. And of course the images are now saved on my hard drive...

I would love to enter that store with $10,000 in U.S. currency, and converted to yen, in order to spend. I'd probably pass out from the excitement. cheeky

100,000 yen. That would be nice, though it would not buy as much as one would think, with DVDs and Blu-Rays costing more than 50 yen ($45 dollars) regularly. But the HMV exclusives from Bandai are great.

Question: why did Toho change the Godzilla suit from the 1999/2000 Millennium G films to the one used in 2002 and 2003, Evan? heyo

IDK, though I bet it was something of Masaaki Tezuka's decision. Though I heard that they had to make a new suit due to the Kiryu suit being smaller than the originaly planned re-use of the GMK suit, but I have been told that rumor is false.

Do you like the 2002/2003 G suit better than the 1999/2000 G suit, Evan? Or vice versa...and why? heyo

The G2K suit is more my favorite. Owning figures of both and seeing both in the films they are in, I can say that without ego. They are both good suits, but the G2K head is better and I like the two extra rows of dorsal fins the G2K suit has (each row consisting of two dorsal fins which are between the main rows).
