For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

In 1965 Crack In The World was released by Paramount Pictures, a disaster movie directed by Andrew Marton. The story: A scientist, Dr. Stephen Sorensen(played by Dana Andrews), attempts, despite warnings from a colleague, to tap into the geothermal energy of the Earth, by detonating a powerful nuclear device deep inside the Earth's crust. The blast initiates a giant "crack", ever-growing, which threatens to destroy the planet. Sorensen's colleague and protege(of sorts), Dr. Ted Rampion(played by Kieron Moore), who opposed the detonation from the start, now must lead the effort to halt the crack before it tears the world, literally, apart. --------------Observations: It took me a long time to find this movie(on DVD-R) after seeing it so long ago as a kid. The film used to appear on AMC, though I haven't seen it on this particular cable channel in a long, long time. The special effects were good enough, to be sure, I just wish we had seen more of them. Dana Andrews did a good job as the troubled Dr. Sorensen, his passion for his work no doubt intensified by his medical condition, terminal cancer, which was revealed early in the film. Sorensen's wife was played by Janette Scott, her performance being, IMO, serviceable. My only real complaint of this film was the lack of "epic" feel, which IMO a disaster movie must have to be really effective-this film, to me, falls short in that regard. I have yet to see an official release of this movie on DVD. My own DVD-R is a very good copy of the AMC broadcast in full frame without commercials. Post your opinions and critiques of this sci-fi classic here and anything or anyone related to it. :)

I really like this film, but agree, it does seem to lack that 'epic' feel so many disaster films usually have. overall, I find the film to be quite enjoyable and Kieron Moore and Dana Andrews do a fine job with their roles and while the special effects were good, I agree, there was a definite lack of use of the special effects. I have this film as a VHS dub and would dearly love to see this come to DVD. I think the artwork for the poster was excellent, wouldn't mind having that in my poster collection.

I have been checking out sites that provide DVD release info on all movies, recent and older titles alike, and so far I have come across no information or mention of this film at all. This surprises me a little.

I think in time it will be. As always I will be on the lookout. I'm thinking this film was shot in widescreen(though don't quote me on that) so I would think any official DVD release would feature the movie in it's original theatrical format=either 2.35:1, 1.85:1 or 1.66:1 letterbox. confused
