I've heard that Daniel Day Lewis was superb in the film There Will Be Blood(2008). For that reason I will be picking this movie up on DVD when it "streets". ;)

I have heard rave reviews of this film also, as well as the Cohen brothers film "No Country For Old Men". Although these films did well at the Oscars, I always take that with a grain of salt, because, in my opinion the Oscar snobs have very often snubbed many a deserving film, especially in the horror, sci-fi, and comedy categories, and instead continuously choose drama films year after year. In recent years it has made me not want to even tune in for this yearly awards show. cheeky sick smiley

Having watched Syriana(2005) and Munich(2005) today on DVD I was most impressed with George Clooney in "Syriana" and Eric Bana in "Munich". I think you would like both of these films, Josh.

I just can't believe Transformers lost the best visual effects award to The Golden Compass. Very odd, in my view.

That's because Eric Bana is the freakin' man.

I haven't seen The Golden Compass movie. I thought the visuals in Transformers were great...and no I'm not referring to Megan Fox. tongue-1

Munich was good...I haven't seen Syriana yet. Now that I've seen No Country For Old Men, I can say it was a good film...but Im really not sure it was worthy of all those awards. It felt like there was something missing that kept this film from truly being a 5 star piece of work...but then again I'm no professional movie analyst. Hell, if those people knew how I felt about some Godzilla films they would most likely never listen to a word or opinion I said when it comes to subjectively analyzing film.

For anyone who hasn't seen Sling Blade(1996) you're missing out on what I consider a marvelous performance by Billy Bob Thornton as the mildly retarded "Karl Childers". Here's a clip showing Childers explaining to some local college students what he did to warrant his incarceration in a state mental facility: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1363270043688635547

very funny

Another stellar acting performance, in recent years: David Straithairn as Edward R. Murrow in Good Night And Good Luck(2005), a movie written by George Clooney, who also stars in it as Murrow's boss at CBS, Fred Friendly. Click the link to watch Murrow's speech in 1958 about the media of television, from the movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cfwsfGqgPM&feature=related
