Some of my favorite DVDs are some of MGM's Midnite Movies titles. There are many in stores right now. You can find them at Circuit City, Best Buy, Suncoast Motion Picture, or places that stock more used titles, like Movie Trading Company. Among the favorites I have on DVD:

  • 1. Die Monster! Die!(1965)
  • 2. Theater Of Blood(1973)
  • 3. The Pit And The Pendulum(1961)
  • 4. War Gods Of The Deep(1965)
  • 5. The Monster That Challenged The World(1957)
  • 6. At The Earth's Core(1976)
  • 7. The Beast Within(1982)
  • 8. The Angry Red Planet(1960)
  • 9. The Land That Time Forgot(1975)/The People That Time Forgot(1977)
  • 10. It! The Terror From beyond Space(1958)
There are many more. Post any more titles that are worth a mention. Or talk about any of the titles listed. All replies welcome. :)

I think most of the films put out by Midnite Movies have been quite enjoyable. While some of the double-feature discs may not always boast of two strong films, most have been pretty solid efforts, I think. When Sony purchased MGM, I feared that it might spell the end of the MM line, but I read somewhere, yesterday, that the future does hold some Midnite Movies. Not sure of the titles, I'll go back and see if I can locate the article, but I'm hoping for some fun titles, if they continue this line.

There have been several threads at various boards I have browsed that have discussed the future of the MGM Midnite Movies. Having read them I am inclined to think that the series will hang around, although there was mention that only films from 10 years ago to present would be considered now for the series. I'm not sure I buy into that-the charm and popularity of this line of DVDs has been the older titles themselves, films from 50's, 60's and 70's. Just FYI KF: the location where I see the most Midnite Movie DVDs is Best Buy. :)

I sincerely hope the MM line of discs continues to be produced/released. The films covered are quite often films that might not otherwise have a proper DVD release. Sheesh! I really hope that bit about films no older than ten years being considered for MM is dropped.

I used to find a ton of the MM at Best Buy as well, but I actually ordered, Panic In Year Zero/The Last Man On Earth through Amazon Canada! I believe it was delayed or pulled for a while at the U.S. site and I just had to have it.

A good example of your post: The Land That Time Forgot/The People That Time Forgot. Neither film is, IMO, remarkable-the 1975 film("Land That...") is better than average I think, but the 1977 semi-sequel was, for me, passable, and not much else. I think the best double-feature DVDs in the Midnite Movies series are the Edgar Allen Poe stories made into movies, e.g. Murder In The Rue Morgue, The Oblong Box, and The Fall Of The House Of Usher.

-The Masque of the Red Death/The Premature Burial

I have heard mondo compliments about this one, which I will be on the lookout for.

Have you seen Planet Of The Vampires(1965)?

It is a fun film and I think Ray Milland is quite good in the lead role.
