It's the least I can do for someone giving me the link to a widescreen DVD of 1976's Grizzly. Mr Green |

It is the version I have. I truly enjoyed watching Christopher George versus his boss in this film-definitely two people that will not be exchanging Christmas cards this year . I thought the "bear" effects were, at best, spotty. I enjoy this film mostly for the characters: the intense, chain-smoking park ranger(Christopher George), the eccentric trapper(Richard Jaeckel) and the "good ole boy" helo-pilot friend of the ranger's(Andrew Prine). Believe it or not the largest recorded height and weight for a North American grizzly bear was one specimen that weighed over 1300 lbs and stood, on it's hind legs, about twelve feet tall. Certainly not as big as the 18 ft, 2000 lb colossus in Grizzly, but still plenty big enough to comfortably remain at the top of the food chain in it's natural habitat. eyebrow

You know, I found it kind of amusing that in the film, unless I missed a re-estimate on the size of the grizzly, they guessed it to be about 15 feet, but the DVD does state it at 18 feet. Hey, be it 15 or 18 feet, I'd not want to ever run into one that size....that's just way too much bear! |

You might want to check this out KF: World's largest grizzly shot and killed I was wrong. Click the link to see a photo of what is now considered the largest grizzly(dead or alive)-this specimen stood 12'6" at the shoulder, 14" at the top of his head(on his hind legs) and weighed around 1600 lbs. Warning: there is one photo at this link, the remains of a camper killed by this mammoth grizzly before it was killed(by a forestry worker), that is very graphic. |

Wow! :o I believe I saw the remains of the poor hiker in another link one time and that is some scary stuff! I came face to face with a bear while out in the woods several years ago, while out hunting deer and all three of us were so shocked that when I screamed, 'Holy Sh*t', the bear almost looked cartoonish in coming to a stop, shaking it's head and taking off up over the mountain! I can't even begin to imagine the horror of stumbling upon a creature that huge, possibly being in a rotten mood for having been shot AND being hungry!

Indeed. The photo of the partially eaten remains of the camper were somewhat startling to me and serves as a reminder that we humans are not always at the top of the food chain. dead |

Very true! In the area where I live, there's been a huge upswing in bear sightings and bears coming up on porches and such. My grandparents had a bear on their back porch.

There has been a great deal of discussion at the ezboard "horror" forum about why the MGM "Midnite Movies" series of DVDs may be in jeopardy of being curtailed, or possibly discontinued. I have not followed this particular thread too closely, but there is mention of Sony. Apparently Sony, which is a truly gigantic entertainment company(among the largest of it's kind in the world), bought the MGM movie "library" and there has been some sort of "shift" in priority, and perhaps philosophy(within Sony) , about these films and the perceived market for them. confused |

I heard that the MGM library of films had been purchased by Sony and that Sony felt there was no real reason to release any films beyind the previous ten years. I've heard that Sony may have reconsidered that thought and they say there are two double-feature DVDs coming out in July, I believe that will carry the 'Midnite Movies' title, but I can't recall the titles and I do recall some film fans questioning the films slated for release. I'm just pleased that we will still have the 'Midnite Movies' to look forward to. thumbs up |

I concur. Not only that but there are, for me, still very many of them I have yet to purchase, that in and of itself will keep me making trips to Best Buy for at least a couple of more years ;) Thread drift(slight): I heard that there are somewhere in the vicinity of over 4000 titles in MGM's total film library. silver surprised Late edit:(7 PM 5/8/06)- KF, on the "MGM Midnite Movies" thread at the ezboard.com "horror" board it was revealed that this DVD series will be restarted by Sony in June of this year. thumbs up |

Thanks for the heads-up Kimi. MGM has a vast and tremendous DVD library, and their Midnite Movies line of DVDs are great, and are among some of my favorites from my own collection. thumbs up |

You're most welcome, Lee. :) I had a cart full that was almost $360! Obviously, I can't get that many, but I'll hold them in the cart for a few days, see if I can whittle the choices down and maybe in the end, get a few!
