Though I am not generally the biggest fan of animation in general the one(and major) exception to that are the Hanna-Barbera cartoons of the 1960's, especially The Herculoids(1967), Space Ghost(1966), Frankenstein, Jr.(1965), and Galaxy Trio(1967). There are many sites dedicated to these classic cartoons and the characters that are featured in them. Among the best I have seen so far is this one: Retro Superheroes. The site includes a list of DVD-R titles. I have corresponded with one of the site's owners, John Bernetich, a nice guy and, like myself, a huge fan of these older classics. I have secured some of these older series from him-when I have some extra $ I will be getting more. If you have a passing or greater interest in these 1960's cartoons I recommend you stop by this site and check it out.

Wow! Some very cool titles offered, there. Money is usually quite tight, but I'd love to get my hands on:

-Aquman
-Dino Boy
-The Fantastic Four

Some of the titles I'm only familiar with through title, having never seen any of the series episodes, but would be interested in a few others based on positive recommendations.

As would I. The 1967 Fantastic Four cartoon series is, IMO, stellar. I especially like the rendering of Ben Grimm, aka The Thing. The "voice" of Grimm in this cartoon series is perfect: deep, somewhat gravelly, very appropriate for a character who relies on his brute strength to jack up and beat the crap out of the FF's enemies.

Other cartoons Packmule would like to secure on DVD-R:

Space Ghost(1981)
Jonny Quest(1964)
Mr Green

"Race" Banning=IMO the original cartoon bad-ass. The man does it all-saves his boss Dr. Benton Quest from all kinds of jams, keeps Johnny and Hadji in line when the two lads get a little too big for their proverbial britches, is an expert marksman and always jacks up the bad guys when needed. Trivia: did you know that actor Tim Mathieson voiced the title character(Jonny Q) in this series? Journeyman voice-over man and actor Mike Road voiced "Race"-he also voiced Zandor from The Herculoids(1967). :)

I do recall reading that Matieson was the voice of, Jonny, but I honestly don't recall ever seeing, The Herculoids.

As for the 'Race' character, I always thought he was very cool. Mr Green

I've been a big fan of the 1966 film, Destination Inner Space for several years, since first seeing it on TV about 15 years ago. I sat watching it this afternoon and the character of Hugh Maddox sounded very familiar and always has to me....it's Mike Road! Mr Green

I was about to bring this up but you beat me to it. I ordered this film on DVD-R last year and was surprised to see Mike Road in it. Based on his acting performance in this movie, I would assume most(if not all) of his notoriety was based on his voice. tongue-1

I was a little surprised, for some reason, I assumed Mike Road was a tall guy, but unless Scott Brady was a very tall guy, Mike Road seemed smaller is stature than I expected. I did check out some info on Road at IMDb and he did have quite a few guest appearances in TV series, but most I've never seen and I wouldn't have known him when/if I saw any episodes, anyway. I believe you're correct, most of his talent was in that very distinctive voice of his. :)

Favorite JQ episodes: the one with the gargoyles, the invisible monster, and the probe that crawls about like a spider. I also liked the yeti episode Mr Green

-Artic Splashdown
-The Robot Spy
-Shadow of the Condor

I think the opening and closing sequences of the episodes are excellent, too!

I actually received this as a Christmas gift a couple of years ago. The series is available on official DVD as part of the, Hanna-Barbera Golden Collection and it includes all 26 episodes from the first season. I believe my set was purchased at a Wal*Mart, but I have seen the collection at Amazon, Best Buy, Borders, Circuit City, Sam's CLub and Deep Discount DVD.

Are you refering to the older series(from 1964) or the newer one(from the 90's)?

As a great fan of 1960's Hanna-Barbera cartoons I was very pleased to see that Birdman and Galaxy Trio, both animated series first airing in 1967, are coming to DVD on 7/17/07. Click the link for more info: Birdman & Galaxy Trio

thumbs up
