Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

I understand you were joking. It's why my reply was meant to be non-humorous. Not rude, you understand, but not funny either. winky

Let me add something: I realize many members of this message board may disagree but I am not, IMO, a "smart" person. I consider myself hard working, stubborn at times, accountable and deliberate in the way I approach all things in life, good or bad. I do not consider myself a smart person, however. I never have. winky

^I never got why this film got knocked around
I've seen Godzilla Vs The Cosmic Monster(1974) criticized at various message boards for a myriad of reasons, including:

-the Godzilla suit itself. I admit I'm not a fan of this suit but I find it does not detract from the film itself. Some people disagree.

-the score. I have seen disparaging comments made about the score

-the appearance of the Black Hole aliens. I personally like the simian, ape like rendering of these creatures. Some do not.

-the appearance of King Seesar. I can understand why there might be a variety of reactions to the monster because, IMO, it is unusual looking: a bipedal monster with a lion-like head and crystalline eyes.

The special effects director for Godzilla Vs The Cosmic Monster was Teruyoshi Nakano, who was very well known for his superior pyrotechnics work in the films in which he oversaw the special effects. winky

But do you get the idea that this scene takes place AFTER Anguirius' battle with MechaGodzilla?

Not initially, no. After thinking about it a little...I could see how this scene would be used in the manner you suggest, kind of a pre "flash forward" scene.
I never really thought about the opening scene like that before, that is an interesting take on it though. And it makes sense when you put it together.

i actually think he wouldn,t like them! notice he never put blood in his films, and i heard in a commentary that he would't put it in the films. so he may not have liked them.

I'd have to go back and check some of my Godzilla books but I do recall that Eiji Tsuburaya, who died in 1970, was very fond of children and wanted Godzilla to appeal to the young ones, this no doubt a factor in the relative(though not total) absence of blood and other gory effects in Showa Godzilla movies.

Personally, I would have liked seeing more gritty effects(including more bloody effects shots) in Godzilla movies. That said I cannot find fault with a man who, responsible for the special effects in Godzilla films, wants to make sure children are pleased with the monster and not shocked or otherwise frightened by over the top bloody effects scenes. winky
