Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

I agree. Give Classic Media credit for doing a stellar job on TOMG, and all the other G films they've released to DVD. Considering how nice these DVDs are I see no reason to think they're re-release of Rodan and the debut R1 release of WOTG won't be great as well. thumbs up

The Simitar version that came out in 1998 and the other Clasic Media version that came out several Years ago are the American TV version which is EXTREMELY edited for pretty much anything you can think of. The NEW Classic Media version is the Japanese version and A pretty decent American Version that is only missing 1 scene. And It's also in widescreen. The other 2 releases are not.

Dang! I need to get off my lazy arse and get this movie!

When I was at Best Buy last weekend the store had no copies of TOMG on their racks. A sales associate said they had sold all of them out and re-ordered more. There were several copies of "All Monsters Attack" and other various Classic Media titles but none for TOMG. I suspect TOMG will be a decent seller for Best Buy. ;)

I'd love to see Mechagodzilla again! He's just so underused. Just kidding! ;)

A new version of Titanosaurus may be interesting. I'd love to see Varan again. Talk about underused!

I wouldn't mind seeing Titanosaurus in a future Godzilla movie also, but from what i've heard, he's not one of Toho's more popular monsters. I think that's one of the dillemmas Toho has when they start the Godzilla series again. Do they make a solo Godzilla movie? Do they make a Godzilla movie with a well known second monster? Or do they make a Godzilla movie with a new monster?

All I know is that they have rode MechaGodzilla like a Dime-Store Pony. When they bring something new to the table, I don't mind the idea od it being Godzilla and some of the lesser known monsters like Titanosaurus or King Ceasar.

Well that's the thing....having a Solo Godzilla would be a mute point as we've already had 2 which were Godzilla and Return of Godzilla and both were films I quite liked but really...I think that making a 3rd would come off more redundant then anything else...and most of the Millenium era was old monsters and when they did a new one they were rather lame like Orga (weak alien Godzilla wannabe), Megaguirus (aka Zippy Battra) and Monster X (lame humanoid Ghidorah)

I would like to see some new ones but I think if that do, they should spend time to think out a new monster that is actually interesting and poses a real threat to Godzilla and everyone else (if that's it's intent obviously)...if its a good monster like Mothra then that doesn't apply as it wouldn't be killing people intentionally and should be the underdog

Terror Of Mechagodzilla(1975) - Revisited

I decided to watch Terror Of Mechagodzilla tonight. I tried to absorb, for lack of better word, as much of the more minute details of this movie as I could, fighting, as always, weeknight fatigue from work.

Some observations:

1. I liked the UPA prologue on the American version of TOMG. I actually had never seen this prologue, including narration, until tonight.

2. Tomoko Ai-a lovely woman, whether clad in up to date Earth female clothing or the Black Hole alien silver uniform. tongue-1

3. Regarding the Black Hole alien's uniforms, I actually liked the silver colored uniforms. They reminded me of the pilot episode "Lost In Space" uniforms worn by Don West and the Robinson family on the Jupiter 2. That's good. I did not like the Black Hole aliens' helmets, whose gaudy antennae projections reminded me of Goldar, Silvar and Gam from the TV series Space Giants. That's bad.

4. The interpol agent's boss resembled, somewhat, Yoshio Tsuchiya in the face.

5. Kenji Sahara appeared in dire need of Grecian Formula in this movie.

6. Akihiko Hirata was, IMO, very good as "Dr. Mafune". He seemed, from his appearance, to share the same hairdresser as Eisei Amamoto in King Kong Escapes(1967).

7. There were "leisure suits" galore in this film. I actually owned one though I seldom wore it while in high school.

8. The pyrotechnics effects were, in some sequences, absolutely marvelous, a credit to the talents of Teruyoshi Nakano and his effects crew. The initial assault on Tokyo by Mechagodzilla was visually great, especially the way the miniatures exploded, creating a kind of firewall effect from MG's eyebeams. I also thought the effects in the "revolving missile" scene were marvelous.

9. The underwater shots were decent at the beginning of the film when the first mini sub encounters Titanosaurus while looking for the "remains" of MG. Obviously the underwater sequence isn't perfect but at least it doesn't appear as though it were filmed in a recently chlorinated swimming pool either.

10. I didn't care for the way in which Ichinose did away with Mugal's assistant. Ichinose strangled the alien. Me, I would have boxed this asshole like Mike Tyson and then body slammed him to the floor like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. sicko

11. I liked the battle between Godzilla and Titanosaurus, except for Titano's jacking Godzilla up in the air mouth to mouth.

12. Speaking of Titano I've often wondered why this monster moved it's arms about as it did when opening/closing its tail fin...?

It looks great and I didn't realize how much I was missing from the other Classic Media DVD I have...can't wait to see the other dvds in the set :D

I have Mothra(1961) on DVD-R in letterbox and English subtitles. If I can burn it to a finalized DVD-R in my computer I could send you the copy of it. That is, if you're interested. ;)

I can understand your sentiments here. Given what goes on in todays society, both on the web and in real life, caution is always justified.

I have given away some DVDs to KexMex and also bought a DVD-R from UltramanSmythe. I also engaged in a trade of collectibles with Johnny Rod about two years ago. Obviously I would need your address, or a mailing address of some kind, in which to send the DVD-R. I would not need your real name-I could simply address the parcel to "John Smith" or some other alias.

In any situation where I participate in this kind of thing I always avail the other person of my full name, address and home/cell phone. I know in both situations with KexMex and UltramanSmythe I offered to speak, by phone, with the parents of both of these guys.

You can let me know one way or another at your convenience. :)
