Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

My copy of this classic arrived, this morning. Because of some health scares with my poor Mom, again, I haven't slept since Saturday night, so I didn't even pop this disc in the player, today, it will have to wait until I am a bit more alert.....hopefully, tomorrow.

Anyone else pick this up? I'm eager to see this film, again, I haven't seen it for years and the cool thing about this DVD release....they've included both the 1970 theatrical release as well as the original 1967 version of the film! thumbs up

First off sorry to hear about your mother. I hope that situation, and of course your mother, gets better, soon.

Regarding this movie, I have never seen it. To be honest I had never even heard of it until your topic starter post. I found this link about the DVD: Equinox DVD

Thanks for the well wishes, packmule. :)

Equinox isn't a great film by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a good film and fun, I think. I hope to have a little while to sit and watch my DVD, this afternoon. :D

That's a great little photo, I think that scene in the film is pretty decent, too. One note, I can't help but notice a resemblence in one of the beasties from Equinox to the Ymir in the film, 20 Million Miles to Earth, but then it doesn't surprise me, as director Dennis Muren is a fan of Harryhausen, so I can't help but wonder if that wasn't an homage to Harryhausen?

I would think that it probably is. As you said, Dennis Muren(and I had heard that name before, if not this film) is a fan of legendary special effects man Ray Harryhausen, who specialized in stop motion animation. I see no better way to honor someone you admire, from a filmmaking standpoint, than to emulate some of that person's work(or creations) in your own film(s). You know the old saying: "Imitation is the highest form of flattery."

Mom was released from the hospital, today and it was a busy day all around, so no opportunity to sit down and watch the second feature/version of the film or the bonus disc, but I'll try and do that, tomorrow.

I agree, Muren has always praised Harryhausen, whenever I've seen an interview asking anything about Harryhausen, so he probably did pay homage with this beastie effort....nice compliment, I;d say.

Well wishes to you and your mother. Take a load off and watch some movies. I will be definitely doing that on Sunday. Mr Green

Thanks, packmule and I sincerely wish you a relaxing day on Sunday! I know whenever I move, I refuse to relax until everything I own is put away and the place looks comfortable...then I collapse for a week!

I came across this DVD at Tower Records. The DVD case(and cover art) was impressive-anything from the Criterion Collection usually is, but the price was $30, which was more than I was looking to spend. I might buy this one later in the year. busy bee

I have always enjoyed the Criterion Collection discs I have in my DVD collection....I don't have a ton of them, but those films I do have look very nice and the bonus features on a Criterion are always impressive, but my one gripe would definitely be the price-tag attached to the DVD. I mean, Criterion offers some titles that we may not normally see get a DVD release and they do wonderful work with restoring the film and offering wonderful bonus features, but other companies also can offer a nice looking package for far less. I know some folks who will add a Criterion to their collection, just because of the Criterion name, I can't afford that and if it's not a film I plan on watching and rewatching, I can't justify the purchase, either. Perhaps when Deep Discount DVD has their November sale, you could pick this disc up at a nice price.
