MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

This 1979 film is packed with a fantastic cast....Sean Connery, Natalie Wood, Henry Fonda, Karl Malden, Brian Keith, Martin Landau and Trevor Howard. Basically, a five-mile-wide meteor is on a collision course with Earth. The Earth is looking at total destruction in six days and unless the U.S. and the Soviet Union are willing to share secrets each nation has, then Earth stands no chance of surviving.

With the storyline, you'd almost expect this to be an Irwin Allen film, but in fact, it's a Samuel Z. Arkoff production and a damn fine one at that. Very easy to watch, some excellent destruction scenes and certainly not a bad film! I find the cast to be the best part of the film, but I also have a soft-spot for all these doomsday style films, so this is one title I revisit quite regularly.

I have been looking for this movie. I have seen bits and pieces of it but never in it's entireity. I will be on the lookout for it. If memory serves me correct Meteor was supposed to be a blockbuster wasn't it? When it was released in 1979? Kind of a hit or miss year for sci-fi, IMO. Hit: Alien. Miss: The Black Hole.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if this wasn't supposed to be a blockbuster, especially given the cast. I very much enjoy this film, first saw it on VHS back in the days of those 'Mom & Pop' video stores that always held some excellent films you might never have seen or even heard of. I must have rented this film once a week for a year! Probably not worth all that rental money, but I loved it. :D

thumbs up I'm all the time trying to interest family and friends in films I truly enjoy.....seems to be a lost cause much of the time, as I do enjoy those offbeat classics, but this film has garnered some fans when I've shown it.

The vast majority of reviews I have seen on the internet for Meteor(1979) were negative. Why do think that is KF?

I'm not really sure, it could be that the film actually has a 'made-for-TV' feel to it? It may be that at the time the film was released, people had tired of these disaster style films? I certainly don't feel the acting could be the issue, I thought overall, the film was a fun little effort. It simply may have not been an appealing film to many sci-fi fans, but I've just always enjoyed the film.

Having never seen this film in it's entireity, I am inclined to think I would enjoy it, if for no other reason than to watch Sean Connery in action while he still had some hair on top of his head. tongue-1
