Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

I rather enjoy this 1962 film starring a prehistoric beastie that spits green goo and generally does it's best to bring Copenhagen to it's knees. Basically, Danish scientists discover a piece of Reptilicus on a drill bit, while diggin in the Arctic. The piece of flesh is actually bleeding and so they rush the hunk of flesh back to Copenhagen and begin a list of experiemtns.....it's isn't long before the piece of flesh grows into a rather impressive 'beastie'.

I have read that the Danish edit of the film doesn't have Reptilicus spitting green goo and the beastie is actually capable of flying! I love the poster for this film!

While not a favorite of mine I still enjoy watching Reptilicus(1962) from time to time. I think, considering the quality of the "green goo" effects, perhaps this could have been left out of the film. The acting was serviceable, the sets were okay, but the special effects were, unfortunately, lacking. Though no doubt unlikely I for one would enjoy seeing a remake of this movie, even if the monster was entirely CGI. Waldo

I'm not really sure why this is a favorite of mine, not a favorite in the fact that I could sit and watching this over five times in one day, like some of my other faves, but it's fun to watch. I think the fact that I saw this film on TV in those very early and very impressional years may be the reason why I enjoy it. Granted, as mentioned, the acting is a tad stiff most of the time and the spitting of the goo is definitely cartoonish, but overall, I can live with it and I;d still love to see the Danish edit of the film! That's the cover I have for my DVD, Lee. :) I wish they'd used the original poster artwork, but heck, I'm just thrileld to have it available on DVD.

As a side note, I remember an old TV show as a kid....believe it was called, Kukla, Fran & Ollie and not sure who was who, but Reptilicus kind of reminds me of the dragon on that series! Mr Green

I've never been a fan of the puppetry arts but I do remember Kukla Fran & Ollie. I believe it aired on CBS.

Thread drift: I was never a big fan of goofball shows but one exception to this was The Banana Splits, a live action show featuring three bumbling but lovable canines-their show also featured 60's Hanna-Barbera cartoons like Sinbad, Mightor, and Shazam

I can only vaguely ercall the TV show, Kukla, Fran & Ollie, but Reptilicus really reminds me of whichever was the dragon on that show. :)

I remember the Banana Splits! Again, just vaguely, but I remember I must have been 3 or 4 and there was a promotion on a cereal box where you must have sent in so many boxtops and cash and you received small Banana Splits pillows....MOm must have scraped together the money and sent the stuff off, because I had all the pillows at one time! thumbs up

I'm not really sure, Lee, but that's what I've been thinking, too. I'll have to look that series up and see what info I can find.

I already have Kimi. The dragon was actually Oliver J. Dragon, aka Ollie. Indeed, he does bear a resemblance to the monster from Reptilicus(1962) tongue-1

Pictured: Oliver J. Dragon("Ollie" to his friends), from the long running TV show Kukla, Fran & Ollie

A member of Gojira Sanctuary Forums, Coldesser, has made a very cool, edited for time video of Reptilicus(1962), which runs for ten minutes. The link to watch it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=javwT9eyR9g

Here's a trailer:

I have this film on R1 DVD(the MGM release). It's a fun movie if not taken too seriously. The special effects are dated and sometimes leave a lot to be desired but the film tries hard and is IMO an absolute must as a DVD for any giant monster movie fan's DVD collection.
