One of the more frustrating aspects of being a movie fan is the occasional delay in seeing a favorite released on DVD. I am not referring to DVD-R's but the "official" releases. Recently, my all-time favorite television series, Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, made it's way to DVD, and I was relieved, and delighted, to finally be able to see this show in a clear picture, as opposed to the VHS I taped off the Sci-Fi Channel back in 2000, and with, to add to insult to injury, commercials. The viewing quality of these tapes was so horrendous that I was not even able to give them away, and eventually threw them out What movies do you think should be on official DVD, but aren't(yet)? Talk about them here. All replies welcome. :) Thread starter-a few come to mind for me immediately: 1. Crack In The World(1965) 2. Captain Nemo And The Underwater City(1969) 3. ...All The Marbles(1981) Image: theatrical poster for 1969's Captain Nemo And The Underwater City, a film that is currently not available on DVD |

I remember being on a big Captain Nemo/Nautilus kick after seeing 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA in elementary school. One saturday afternoon I caught that Captain Nemo movie on TV. I don't remember much about it because it was so long ago when I saw it but I do remember that underwater city. Thanks for the nostalgia. I would like to see GORATH and BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE from Toho on region 1 DVD. Who knows, maybe soon. Does anyone know if PLANET OF BLOOD is on DVD? It was a weird 50's sci-fi flick about a creepy space-vampire chick. |

It is not available at Amazon.com as a DVD, however, there was one(1) copy of it remaining on VHS, priced at $33.95. Seems like an awful lot of money to pay for a VHS of anything. I am certain that there are various sources on the internet for securing Planet Of Blood(1966), aka Queen Of Blood, as a DVD-R. The AMC website also has this film title listed in their data base, meaning that it has been broadcast on AMC, though it is not currently scheduled to appear anytime soon. thumbs down As for Gorath(1962) and Battle In Outer Space(1959), two absolutely stellar Toho sci-fi films, I would not count on seeing them on Region 1 DVD anytime soon. I believe Columbia Pictures owns the rights to both films(recall Dan the VHS of Gorath that used to circulate as a video rental, with the "Magma" footage removed). I have seen some discussion of these films at several kaiju discussion sites. Based on the comments forwarded by connected people like "kpa" there are no immediate plans to release either of these two on region 1 DVD. thumbs down |

I'd definitely love to see, Crack In the World on DVD. Some other films I'd like to see with official DVD releases in any region would be: -Tales From the Crypt ('72) -The Maze (50s) -Berserk! (Joan Crawford/Michael Gough) -Trog -It ('66/Roddy McDowall) -Cash On Demand (Hammer Studios) -Corruption ('67/Peter Cushing) -Curse of the Mummy's Tomb -The Deadly Bees -The Deadly Mantis -Food of the Gods* (On DVD From Japan, but VERY Pricey!) -From Beyond the Grave (Amicus) -The Gorgon -Hot Rods to Hell -The Land Unknown -The Lost World ('60) -The Man Who Could Cheat Death ('59) -The Mole People -Moon Zero Two -The Terrornauts -Warlords of Atlantis (Don't think this is currently available in any region) -When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth I know there are a ton more, but this is a good start! :) |

Cool Beans. Nice taste you have, Lee. :)
More great titles! I suppose if we don't see a couple of these titles released to Region 1 that are currently available on Region 2 or any other region, I may break down and order them, just so I have them. Sometimes the prices can hold me back, although I don't think the Tarantula disc is too pricey. |

Me, too! I haven't stolen any DVDs nor have I taken the route of selling myself for DVDs, but begged, pleaded and lived on peanut butter sandwiches and less, just to add some titles to my collection, isn't unheard of! ;) |

I have done similarly, except I lived(and sometimes still do) off Ramen or Maruchan noodle packs, soups, cheap spaghetti(usually the thin kind), Nissin Chow mein packs(shrimp and chicken flavored), and cheap two-liter drinks(house brands). crazy |

Funny how much I'm willing to go without, just to get my hands on more DVDs. Does anyone purchase used DVDs at places like GameStop or EB Games or rental stores that offer used discs? |

I used to shop at a Movie Trading Co. location until it closed. It was across the street from a Best Buy-not sure if that had anything to do with it closing though. I have also shopped at Suncoast Video, until about five years ago, when their last store in Atlanta, GA closed. As of now I shop at the following for DVDs: 1. Best Buy(new) 2. Tower Records(new) 3. Blockbuster Video(new and sometimes something used) 4. Oxford Comics(new-usually an Asian crime drama or martial arts film) I also used to shop at "Media Play", but that also closed, about a year ago. No Circuit City on the list-the reason: I quit going to shop at their stores, which have the worst selection of sci-fi/horror I have ever seen. very angry |

I have to go way out of town to do any real DVD shopping. Most decent places are an hour or so away, so when we go, we try and hit several, including: -Best Buy -Borders (I LOVE their Cult Section) -Barnes & Noble (Like Borders, they surprise me with some titles they carry, but they are pricey!) -Suncoast (Again, some decent choices, but high prices!) -GameStop (I buy used DVDs, my roomie buys the video games...new and used!) -EB Games (Same note as above) -FYE (Some decent choices and sometimes some decent sales) We went to Florida in 2004 and 3005 to visit my roomie's family and there was a couple of great places to check out......Tate's Comics, they have a huge Asian film section and some cool toys, posters and if you're into them, comics. Another place down that way is called, All Books & Records and while the used DVD section is small, I did find a ton os ftuff in 2004, including; The Giallo Collection for under $40. I've found that some flea markets offer new and used DVDs at good prices, too. |
