In 1966 Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future of our Earth and space travel was realized when the television series Star Trek first aired on NBC. Set in the 23rd century, circa 2278, Earth is now a member of an intergalactic alliance called the United Federation Of Planets, and employs a fleet of starships, manned by uniformed officers and enlisted, both human and alien, to operate them. The first TV series, named Star Trek, chronicles the five year voyage of the Constitution-class starship Enterprise, captained by James Tiberius Kirk(played by William Shatner, and including the exec/science officer Spock, a Vulcan(played by Leonard Nimoy), and the medical officer(and Kirk's pal) Leonard McCoy(played by the late DeForest Kelly). The other primary cast members include the Chief Engineer, Montgomery Scott(played by the late James Doohan), the Communications officer, Uhura(played by Nichelle Nichols), the helmsman/asst science officer Pavel Chekhov(played by Walter Koenig), and lastly, the helmsman/navigator Sulu(played by George Takei). The ratings for Star Trek were always a bit shaky, despite the interesting episodes and plethora of alien species that were often featured. After the series went off the air in 1969, a long run of TV syndication would begin with this show, and it still appears today on the Sci-Fi channel from time to time. The first series was followed by other ST television series: Star Trek-The Next Generation, Star Trek-Deep Space Nine, Star Trek-Voyager, and Enterprise. There have also been ten(10) ST films on the big screen, all featuring the casts from the original series or from that of ST-TNG. Next up: a ST film in 2008, the rumor being that the plot will involve a young James T. Kirk and Spock, together in their first adventure. Talk about all things "Star Trek" here. All replies welcome. I like the original STAR TREK the best. "The Trouble with Tribbles", "The Doomsday Machine", "Arena", and "The Squire of Gothos" are among my favorites. TNG is pretty good too but for some reason it just doesn't hold up that well. Picard and Worf make that show work for me. I particularly like the episodes featuring Worf and the Klingons. "The Best of Both Worlds, parts I and II" are my favorite episodes of the series. The other shows (DS9, Voyager, Enterprise) I can do without. Favorite ST television series: STAR TREK Favorite Captain: Kirk/Picard (Tie) Favorite alien species: Klingons Favorite "Enterprise": Enterprise-Class from the first 6 TREK films. It has a really cool submarine-warfare type of personality to it. No nonsense. Favorite babe from ST: EDIT: Linda Park from ENTERPRISE |

Packmule's favorite episodes from the original 1966 series: 1. The Doomsday Machine 2. The Gamesters Of Triskelion 3. Arena 4. Balance Of Terror 5. Amok Time 6. Galileo Seven 7. Devil In The Dark 8. Mirror, Mirror 9. Cat's Paw 10. Specter Of The Gun I agree with you that both Deanna Troi(played by Mirina Sirtis) and 7 Of 9(played by Jeri Ryan) are both beautiful women Regarding ST-TNG, I have always liked this series, and it is my second favorite series after the original. To it's credit ST-TNG has many character-driven episodes like the 1966 series, but for some reason I just didn't "connect" with the primary characters of ST-TNG the way I did with the original cast members. The exception to this is Picard, a truly outstanding Captain. Patrick Stewart's great acting skills no doubt added to the mystique of this character. Like you Dan, Picard and Worf were my favorite characters from TNG series. thumbs up |

I really love the original series, I think when I was about 4, I received a Star Trek phaser for Christmas! Wish I had that puppy, now! Mr Green Back several years ago, I believe I was just out of high school and a local PBS station was running their member campaign and offered the original ST series, IF they could get 300 members to pledge membership and said they would sign the contract on air, if they met that goal. I believe they showed three or four episodes and I, naturally pledged and they did indeed sign the contract, that night. I remember they carried that series for several years and would show two or three episodes every Saturday night. thumbs up Favorite ST Television Series: Star Trek Favorite Captain: Kirk Favorite alien species: Klingons Favorite "Enterprise": Enterprise-Class from the first 6 TREK films. It has a really cool submarine-warfare type of personality to it. No nonsense. Agree! Favorite babe from ST: Guess if I must choose....Lt. Uhura Favorite Episodes: -Charlie X -The Menagerie -Shore Leave -Arena -The Devil In the Dark -The City On the Edge of Forever -Mirror, Mirror -Journey to Babel -The Deadly Years -The Trouble With Tribbles -Patterns of Force -Plato's Stepchildren -The Savage Curtain |

I definitely preferred the overall "feel" and the music for the second season episodes of the original Star Trek series. Another episode I liked was The Omega Glory. Here's a good link that lists and details the episodes for all of the Star Trek series(including the animated series): Trek Nation |

I'd love to have the DVD box sets of STAR TREK but they are WAAAAY too expensive for me. Why the heck are they so pricey? Other TV show box sets sell for about $50, but STAR TREK is close to $100! What's up with that? My dream would be to own all three seasons on DVD, the Star Trek Movie Collection box set, The Borg Collective set (includes "The Best of Both Worlds" parts I and II!), and the animated series (voiced by the original stars). If I owned all of those I'd be in Trek Heaven. Y'know, with shows like STAR TREK, THE TWILIGHT ZONE, BATMAN, ULTRAMAN, and LOST IN SPACE, the 1960's really was a cool time to be into sci-fi/fantasy shows! |

Indeed, and that does not include other entertaining sci-fi TV series like The Invaders, The Time Tunnel, or Land Of The Giants, the latter two series also created and produced by Irwin Allen. thumbs up |

The 1st and 2nd seasons were both excellent, in my view. When the 3rd season rolled around the quality seemed to dip a bit and some of the plots were kinda cheesy (ex. "Spock's Brain"). Oh, and just for the record, I absolutely cannot tolerate either of the Mudd episodes, "Mudd's Women" and "I, Mudd". Couldn't stand the character and I thought the plots were just straight up boring. Here's an excellent episode: "The City on the Edge of Forever" (1st season), starring Joan Collins and written by Harlan Ellison. A solid time-travel episode with a riveting plot. Oh, one more thing. I'm gonna have to change my favorite Trek babe to Linda Park from ENTERPRISE. She's fine... ![]() |

I did not care for the third season of ST nearly as much either, though there were some decent episodes-one that comes to mind is The Day Of The Dove, featuring Kirk vs Michael Ansara's "Klingon" captain, and a floating ball of light that fed of the fighting between the humans and Klingons. I agree with you about Linda Park-she's gorgeous That said I would still rather cozy up to Jolene Blalock(pictured below) Other beauties from the 1966 series that merit a mention: Barbara Luna from Mirror,Mirror(she played Kirk's "woman" in the parallel, "savage" universe), and Yvonne Craig Image: Jolene Blalock, who played Vulcan T'Pol on the series Enterprise tongue and cheek |

Susan Oliver, who guest-starred in The Cage/The Menagerie, was a real beauty too. |

For your 10th favorite, are you referring to "Specter of the Gun"? The Wyatt Earp episode? |

I am. My mistake on the title. I liked that episode. Especially near the end, after Spock mindmelded all the crewmembers, prepping their minds to believe that the bullets weren't real. The crew and the Clantons faced each other-the Clantons fired their guns. One of the Clantons stepped forward, as did Kirk, who proceeded to go slap off on the guy, clubbing him over the head twice and then sticking the guy's own revolver in his face. thumbs up |

I saw this brief byte posted at Sci-Fi.com this morning. As many of you know, a new Star Trek film is in the works for a tentative cinematic release in 2008. Here is the announcement: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nimoy, Shatner In Trek 11? Leonard Nimoy, who played Mr. Spock in the original Star Trek series, told Jam Movies that he has been contacted by Paramount about his possible involvement in the upcoming 11th Star Trek film, being directed by J.J. Abrams. Nimoy told the site: "The head of production at Paramount called my agency to tell them about this project, and they are aware of [William Shatner]'s and my contribution to the franchise, and they'd like us to know they might want some involvement. It was all very, very general. They might possibly want Bill and I to set up the story as a flashback. But that's just conjecture on my part." It has been rumored that the film would deal with the first meeting of a young Spock and James T. Kirk at Starfleet Academy, but neither Abrams nor screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orc have confirmed speculation about the premise or storyline of the sequel film. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comments, anyone? eyebrow |

I don't know. Shatner and Nimoy would be nice but I just don't think this movie will have anything new to tell. We'll see, I guess. |
