In 1966 Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future of our Earth and space travel was realized when the television series Star Trek first aired on NBC. Set in the 23rd century, circa 2278, Earth is now a member of an intergalactic alliance called the United Federation Of Planets, and employs a fleet of starships, manned by uniformed officers and enlisted, both human and alien, to operate them. The first TV series, named Star Trek, chronicles the five year voyage of the Constitution-class starship Enterprise, captained by James Tiberius Kirk(played by William Shatner, and including the exec/science officer Spock, a Vulcan(played by Leonard Nimoy), and the medical officer(and Kirk's pal) Leonard McCoy(played by the late DeForest Kelly). The other primary cast members include the Chief Engineer, Montgomery Scott(played by the late James Doohan), the Communications officer, Uhura(played by Nichelle Nichols), the helmsman/asst science officer Pavel Chekhov(played by Walter Koenig), and lastly, the helmsman/navigator Sulu(played by George Takei). The ratings for Star Trek were always a bit shaky, despite the interesting episodes and plethora of alien species that were often featured. After the series went off the air in 1969, a long run of TV syndication would begin with this show, and it still appears today on the Sci-Fi channel from time to time. The first series was followed by other ST television series: Star Trek-The Next Generation, Star Trek-Deep Space Nine, Star Trek-Voyager, and Enterprise. There have also been ten(10) ST films on the big screen, all featuring the casts from the original series or from that of ST-TNG. Next up: a ST film in 2008, the rumor being that the plot will involve a young James T. Kirk and Spock, together in their first adventure. Talk about all things "Star Trek" here. All replies welcome.

A new "Star Trek" comic to be released by IDW Publishing features members of the original series(Kirk, Spock et al) fighting zombies. That's right: zombies. Read more: http://robojapan.blogspot.com/2011/02/its-kirk-and-spock-vs-zombies-in-star.html

We haven't had a "Star Trek" TV series since Enterprise, which had a four season run from 2001-2005. Will there be another ST TV series? Maybe...but if you believe this article it won't happen anytime soon: http://blastr.com/2011/04/why-did-paramount-kill-ne.php

I loved the Abrams Star Trek movie, but was disappointed to hear about Frakes' show getting rejected. Didn't know Shatner proposed another show. I think I may have heard something about Singer proposing a show. It sounds interesting. I've wanted to see Riker and his crew on the Titan in a new show for a while now. I'm psyched for the next Alternate Universe Trek movie. But I NEED some Trek TV. Life is just not the same without it. I would have watched any Trek show from Frakes, Shatner, or Singer.

So would I, Gregg but Paramount apparently believes that due to "franchise fatigue"(their term) most casual fans, perhaps even more ardent Trek fans, wouldn't. I would be delighted to see a series featuring Jonathan Frakes as Captain of the "Titan" with episodes based on the adventures of the Titan's crew. Wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it though. I believe we'll see another Trek series eventually...but it's likely some years away. winky

Yeah. At least we have the movies to look forward to. Hopefully that will eventually bolster interest in a new show.

Indeed. I've seen rumors that the next ST film will feature the "Gorn" as the movie's villains. Recall that we've seen a Gorn only twice, first in an episode of the original ST series called Arena(the Gorn fights Kirk) and then an episode of Enterprise(2001-2005). I have read that the Gorn in the "Enterprise" TV series episode looked a lot different than the iconic Gorn creature in the original series episode.

I would be happy seeing the Gorn in the next ST film as the featured baddies as I am still feeling "Borg fatigue".

Gregg, your thoughts on the Gorn as the featured bad guys in the next ST film?

I'd love to see the Gorn in the next Star Trek film, but I'm not sure if they'd work as the main villains.

I actually thought the Gorn in the Enterprise episode looked quite a bit like the one from "Arena". It just looked like a much more mobile and believable version of the Gorn I knew from TOS.

Trekmovie.com has done a couple of articles that detail Bryan Singer's original pitch for a Star Trek series.

http://trekmovie.com/2011/04/14/exclusive-the-true-story-behind-the-bryan-singer-pitch-of-star-trek-federation/

http://trekmovie.com/2011/04/16/exclusive-details-excerpts-from-star-trek-federation-series-proposal/

In some ways it goes against Gene Roddenberry's optimistic vision for the franchise. But in spite of this, I like the pitch quite a bit. I think Star Trek: Federation had a lot of potential.

I really enjoyed the new startrek film revamp although I still miss the old TNG crew and also wanted to see films based around vgr and DS9 although with some of the books killing of Janeway it would not be the same.

I'd love to see the Gorn as well! However, I'm anxious to see what the Klingons will look like in this new timeline. I know they are shown in a somewhat shrouded fashion on the deleted scenes section of the STAR TREK blu-ray. If they look anything like that we'll be in for a treat.

I recently picked up the first two issues of IDW comics' ongoing STAR TREK series. Basically the book is re-telling classic episodes in the new timeline. The first two issues were a re-imagining of "Where No Man Has Gone Before". Up next is "The Galileo Seven".

The best part of this series is that it is being overseen by one half of the film writing team, Roberto Orci. The book will have elements that tie it into the upcoming Star Trek sequel film. Should be interesting.

I found this which I believe is the deleted scene you're referring to, Dan: http://www.spike.com/video-clips/h6wr0c/scream-star-trek-dvd-bonus-footage

Filming for the 2009 ST film will reportedly begin in mid January, 2012. The sequel has a tentative theatrical release scheduled for sometime in 2013: http://social.entertainment.msn.com/movies/blogs/the-hitlist-blog.aspx?feat=6c143770-dff5-4f66-9f88-6dc145614da0

I have very limited experience with the original series, at least outside of the movies. In other words, I've never heard of this guy before. Having said that, though, this sounds really cool, and I'm more excited for it now than I was before.

Yes, this does look good, great even. I think I'll see it this summer, along with Pacific Rim and Iron Man 3.

Slightly Off Topic: When the Unnamed Antagonist in the Trailer Says the Word Vengeance, I had thoughts about the word and terms of Revenge or Re-Vengeance,lol(Laughing out Loud).
I believe these terms to be really overused and cringe every time they are uttered. Again though, kinda off topic, continue on.

I read at a Star Trek fan website yesterday that there are rumors Zach Quinto does not want to play "Spock" anymore and that the sequence Russ alludes to may in fact be Spock dying in this upcoming ST sequel.

You guys think J.J. Abrams(the director of the ST sequel) woud actually kill off Spock in this movie? loco2
