I don't know.  Shatner and Nimoy would be nice but I just don't think this movie will have anything new to tell.  We'll see, I guess.

You ever get the impression Dan that these disclosures about these upcoming movies are deliberate, done to whet the public's appetite for more? eyebrow

Late edit: A heads up to all Star Trek fans: the original series episodes will begin airing on the cable channel TV Land in November. thumbs up

The original Star Trek episodes began airing regularly on TV Land on November 17, part of a 40th Anniversary celebration of the television series, which aired on NBC from 1966-1969.

Absolutely! And I also believe that these "special editions" of the original STAR TREK are also a way of getting early buzz for the new prequel film.

Indeed. I wouldn't mind seeing Spock put the "nerve pinch" on someone one last time...for old time's sake. There are some rumors on the internet that Matt Damon might play a younger James T. Kirk in the upcoming 2008 ST film. Opinions, Dan, on the selection of this actor for the role? eyebrow

Sounds like a load of hogwash to me. Casting Kirk and Spock will be as difficult as casting Superman. These characters all have distinctive looks that are hard to cast.

My take on the matter, Dan, is that Paramount would be better trying to cast an "unknown" actor(who can act) who has some resemblance to a younger William Shatner. Same for Spock, and trying to find an actor who resembles a younger Leonard Nimoy. I know that may sound somewhat off-kilter. IMO the resemblance "factor" could help these actors be somewhat accepted(no doubt grudgingly) by ST fans. Agree? Or is it time to blow this out of the water? eyebrow

Definitely will need actors that can physically match Shatner and Nimoy. Look how they casted for SUPERMAN RETURNS. Brandon Routh looks and sounds a lot like Christopher Reeve. Paramount will need to cast their TREK movie much like Singer did SR.

I figure Paramount should be able to locate two gents(and actors) who resemble a young Shatner and Nimoy. Of course if they don't there's always the option of compelling the chosen actors to undergo cosmetic surgery tongue-1 . There's also the task of teaching the "new" Spock the proper technique for employing the Vulcan nerve pinch, which, as ST fans will agree, is all in the wrist.

I have the animated series on my Christmas wish list and would dearly love to have the original TV series on DVD, too.

Not sure if anyone here is a fan of the latest Star Wars films.....Episodes I--III, but I went to the theatre with Carol to see all three as they weer released....I'm a fan of Episodes IV--VI, but one bit in Episode III kind of took me by surprise.....when they showed a young, Grand Moff Tarkin and the actor resembled the late-great Peter Cushing! Somoen said they may have used a mask to generate the look, but I thought that was an awesome touch, if not, as it really did resemble a young, Grand Moff Tarkin.

The actor who had the cameo as Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars Episode III-Revenge Of The Sith was Wayne Pygram. Click the link for more info: Wayne Pygram info

Thanks for the link and photo, Lee. :) Face on, Pygram may not resemble Cushing as much as he did from a distance, but he's not a bad likeness, really....certainly has the facial shape of Cushing!

I agree that with the added touch of makeup Mr. Pygram does indeed resemble Peter Cushing.

Topic: been watching any of the original Star Trek episodes on the cable channel TVLand, Kimi? I've only managed to see two so far: The Trouble With Tribbles and A Piece Of The Action, both season two episodes. You know, I liked the pre and post-episode theme music(during the credits) for season two best, as well as the overall scores of the season two episodes. thumbs up

I've been tuning in as much as I can when Star Trek is on, I'm pleased to see this back on TV. I would love to get the series on DVD. I do, have Season 2 on layaway and I've often seen various seasons available at say, Game Stop, but even at used prices, this series fetches some high prices.

I'll have to pay closer attnetion to the opening/closing credit music, next time, I know I preferred one season over the other two, but can't recall which, perhaps it's season 2 for me, as well! :)
