What kind of sold me on the "Nameless" Eastwood character being Duncan was how they ended it by panning the camera across the gravestone, then showing him riding off and kind of dissapearing, like he was a ghost that could now rest because he had avenged himself. I never really considered it being anyone else, so I guess my answer would be that I think Eastwoods nameless character was Duncan.

I looked carefully at the guy shown in the flashbacks, who looked, somewhat, like Eastwood, and my thinking was that that resemblance was meant to suggest that the character was indeed Eastwood's character, presumably about fifteen or twenty years younger. Your "ghost" analogy was on the mark. An interesting way of looking at it. thumbs up

The term "spaghetti western" has it origin in early 60's Westerns that were filmed, exclusively, in Italy, because it was cheaper for film studios to film there than in locations elsewhere, particularly the United States. Because of "spaghetti" being an Italian borne cuisine the nickname stuck. ;)
