Don't forget Max von Sydow as Dr Kynes.

Indeed. I also noticed that Virginia Madsen, Jose Ferrer, Dean Stockwell and Jurgen Prochnow are in it as well.

Click the link to see the remastered trailer for Dune(1984), a film based on the 1965 Frank Herbert novel, and a movie soon to be in my DVD collection:

Not sure if the films I chose all completely qualify as "epics", but here are some I like:

1. Scarface
2. Godfather series
3. Star Wars series
4. Lord of the rings
5. Apocalypse Now

Josh I'm not sure if you've seen Kingdom Of Heaven(2005) but it has, IMO, an "epic" feel about it, especially the director's extended cut of the film.

I haven't seen Cleopatra but I've heard it's good. I have seen Spartacus(1960), directed by Stanley Kubrick(my favorite movie director by the way), and The Longest Day(1962). Both are, IMO, outstanding films. thumbs up

All good picks, Jim. I've seen all of them except for How The West Was Won(1962). I've heard it's great. I know it airs on Turner Classic Movies from time to time so I'll try and watch it the next time it comes on TCM. :)

I just finished watching Gladiator. I must say, it's one of the best epic films ever made.

Also the Godfather trilogy is a good set of films.

I agree. It's also, along with 1997's "L.A. Confidential", one of my favorite films starring Russell Crowe. The opening scene where Maximus' army engages the German barbarians is awesome, as were, IMO, the Coliseum combat sequences. thumbs up

I just found an interesting fact. Did you know that the actor who plays the slave dealer (Oliver Reed) died of a stroke in the middle of of the film?

They used special effects to film him.

I didn't know that. In fact, when I first watched Gladiator(2000) in a theater I didn't realize Oliver Reed was actually playing the character until the end credits. freak out
