Having seen a similar thread in other boards, and discovering what appears to be a better-than-average "Bigfoot" horror film on the verge of DVD release, I decided to install this thread for discussion. Amidst all the horror films that include giant monsters, vampires, mutations, werewolves, mummies, zombies, ghosts and crazed serial killers, the creature known as Bigfoot or Sasquatch can, I think, sometimes get overlooked somewhat by us horror/monster movie fans. Movies and television appearances about this legendary creature, and other variations of it, like the Yeti or "Abominable Snowman", run the gamut, and have been around since the 1950's. To be honest one of my favorite horror movies is a film about these very creatures: 1957's Hammer Studios classic The Abominable Snowman. Talk about Sasquatch in cinema and on television. Your thoughts, your favorite cinematic "Bigfoot" entries. Anything else about Bigfoot as well, including websites, documentaries, reported sightings, and the like.

Thread starter: Packmule's favorite "Bigfoot" movie: The Legend Of Boggy Creek(1975)

Honorable mentions: The Abominable Snowman(1957) and Creature From Black Lake(1976)

Great topic. Mr Green Being the Hammer fan that I am, my favorite film of this sub-genre would definitely be, The Abominable Snowman. I just think the film gels as a whole with the cast, the eerie music and the short glimpses of the 'creatures'.

One of my favorite Hammer horror films as well. Not revealing too much about the creatures enhanced the "eerie" factor of this movie. I also liked the performance of the actor who played the Lama. The differences played out as Peter Cushing Vs Forrest Tucker was also fun to watch. I liked the "telepathic" angle as well. thumbs up

TV appearances of "Bigfoot" I liked:

1. The Six Million Dollar Man(1974-1978)-the 2 part episode entitled "The Secret Of Bigfoot"(the creature was played by actor Ted Cassidy)

2. In Search Of(narrated by Leonard Nimoy)-the "Bigfoot" episode

thumbs up

In Search Of, a quasi-documentary television series narrated by Leonard Nimoy, still makes regular appearances on the Sci-fi Channel, Kimi. thumbs up

I wasn't aware this series was on at all, anymore! Thanks for the heads-up, Lee, I'll definitely check the listings. I remember they used to show two episodes of this series on Saturday nights, as a kid/teen and I always watched them.

While reading about the TV series In Search Of, which aired on TV from 1977-1982, I was surprised to learn that actor Robert Vaughn narrated the pilot episode, and in fact was offered the job of narrating the entire series, but declined. eyebrow

No doubt the Bigfoot episode was my favorite of this great TV series. I also think Leonard Nimoy was stellar as the narrator. thumbs up

Interesting info, indeed on the series! Nimoy certainly has a very recognizable voice for anything he might narrate, so the end result was very positive.

It's been so long since I've seen any of the episodes, I can't recall a favorite, but each one was quite enjoyable....wonder if we might see this series released to DVD in the future?

I have been looking for it on DVD but so far no luck. eyebrow

Bigfoot(1964) and related creatures don't just show up in films. They also appear in animated features. Example: the episode of Jonny Quest which featured the fake yeti. Of course the real one showed up, preying on the bad guys. thumbs up

On October 3rd Abominable(2006) is going to be released to DVD. The film is a horror feature that shows what might happen if a "Sasquatch" were to start hunting people down. freak out

The reviews I read at the site certainly make it appear to be a film worth checking out. One of the stills looked as if, Lance Henriksen stars in this film. Carol picked me up a DVD a few months back entitled, Sasquatch and Henriksen stars in that film, as well! Abominable definitely looks like it's worth checking out. :)

I have seen Sasquatch on the Sci-Fi Channel. Not a favorite of mine, though it kept me interested. I do like it better than the subsequent "Bigfoot" films that have appeared on Sci-Fi, like Sasquatch Mountain. busy bee

I really didn't care for this effort, but won't tell Carol that, as she was thrilled to find a sci-fi/horror film I didn't already own.

Here's hoping this new film has a lot more to offer and if the reviews are even close to the end result, then it sounds great on paper.

I would be too. Sounds like it would be a real challenge to buy something for you on DVD that you don't already own. tongue-1

Thread drift: what do you think of "super hero" films, like Spiderman(2002) or X-Men(2000)? eyebrow

I will admit, finding something I don't own that I want is tough, but there are some titles out there I want and need. ;)

I thought Spiderman showed some promise, but usually a film that begins a franchise like that usually takes one film to establish characters and such. As for, X-Men, I watched the first film, but I guess I'm not a big enough fan of 'super hero/comics' to really sit through many of these films. I will admit, I did watch, Batman Begins with Carol and really enjoyed it!

 I will remember the title of that film and the Alpah DVD and keep clear.
