I am a great fan of Vincent Price, the actor who has starred in many horror films, and in different decades. Though I like him in all of his starring roles there are a handful of performances that stand out for me. Narrowed down to one I would say that I liked him best in House Of Wax(1953). I will expunge more about his performance in this marvelous horror film later. For now, post your favorite "Vincent Price" feature from the poll list. Please explain your choice. This poll topic will also serve as a forum for Vincent Price(the actor) as well, and anything related. All replies welcome. busy bee

Wow! This is one tough question, Lee! I love all those films, but actually went with, The Abominable Dr Phibes, just because it's such a wild and fun kind of horror film. My cousin actually saw this at our Jr-Sr High School...the school used to offer a film once or twice a year during school hours and my cousin was one year ahead of me, so she saw this in 7th grade and had built the film up so much, I just HAD to see this one. It was years before I saw it, but I think just because my cousin made such a big deal about this film and the fact that all the murders are quite unique, this gets my nod....for now! ;)

All those films are outstanding and I plan on having a 'Vincent Price' film day, during the month of October and will cram as many of those films in my day, as possible!

Though I think highly of Vincent Price's performance in The Abominable Dr. Phibes, I cast my vote for House Of Wax because I thought that the 1953 film allowed Mr. Price to showcase his range of acting ability better-recall that Price played Henry Jared, a kindhearted fellow and sculptor who is badly burned, trying to save his wax creations from the fire set by his disgruntled business partner. After the fire Jared returns with a vengeance. Now he plays the same kindhearted sculptor later in the film, on the outside(literally, wearing a mask of his own creation to hide his hideously burned face), while on the inside beats the heart of a vengeful and violent madman. Masterful work by a marvelous actor. thumbs up

Couldn't agree more with your reason for choosing, House of Wax, it's an excellent film, as are all the choices you listed. Guess that just goes to show what an outstanding actor Price was, when it's so tough to choose just one film. Mr Green

Very true, and also why I chose this question as a poll topic...not all of the poll questions here at MF can be easy you know... tongue-1

Though not on the list another "Vincent Price" film that should have been was 1961's Master Of The World thumbs up

I've only seen "The Fly"! (I bought the DVD from Spain).
But he was good on that, so I vote for "The Fly".
'The void is that which stands right in the middle between this and that. The void is all-inclusive, having no opposite — there is nothing which it excludes or opposes. It is living void, because all forms come out of it and whoever realizes the void is filled with life and power and the love of all things' - Bruce Lee

I agree. Though I did not like Return Of The Fly(1959) as much as the original 1958 film, I did find Price's performance in both very good. In all honestly, the 1959 sequel is kind of predictable, but made fairly decent by Vincent Price being it. thumbs up

It's funny, but I actually enjoy both Price, Fly films. I can recall as a kid, being horrified at the sight of the guy with rat hands/feet from, Return of the Fly. freak out Master of the World is a solid Price film, too! I saw just a wee bit of a film on TCM a few years back and I believe the title was, The Story of Mankind or something like that and Price played, Satan. I wish it would come back on, as it had a HUGE all-star cast...The Marx Brothers, Heddy Lamar, Agnes Moorehead, Peter Lorre, etc. I believe a council of elders from space was trying to decide if mankind was worthy of living and it was kind of a trial with arguments for and against the continuation of mankind. I believe this was directed by and perhaps written by, Irwin Allen!

...and Price played, Satan.
That I would like to see. I saw Al Pacino play Satan pretty well in The Devil's Advocate. Vincent Price must have given one hell of a performance as Lucifer, eh Kimi? tongue-1

While that's a pretty good list you have there but I'll shave to agree with KaijuFanatic and go for The Abominable Dr Phibes. It was just such a quirky horror film that it seemed to just appeal to my sense of humor so well....sadly I haven't seen it's sequel. One thing I noticed was how much Theater Of Blood mirrored the plot of Phibles....while also a great film I think that the Phibes films were such a big success that they wabted to live off it.....One thing I've heard but not sure how true it is, was that George A. Romero wanted to make a 3rd Phible film in 1981 and while Price was game the bottom fell out of the project and just never happened....not sure if that was a rumor or not.

On the topic of Vincent Price did anyone say that fairly violent (well violent for his career) horror anthology from 87 called From a Whisper to a Scream....it was directed by the guy that made Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw massacre III and while I'd heard some bad reviews of it but after seeing it I thought it was pretty good particularly as it might have been Price's last horror film.

I found it listed at IMDB under an alternate title, The Offspring(1987).

sadly I haven't seen it's sequel
Here's the trailer for Dr. Phibes Rises Again!(1972)(below). You should get the MGM Midnite Movies DVD which features both the first and second "Phibes" films. I liked both equally. Good point about the "Phibes' movies and Theater Of Blood(1973), which also stars the lovely Diana Rigg.
