Anyone among us a fan of the great, Alfred Hitchcock? I'm a huge fan of many of his films and my introduction to Hitchcock was one Sunday afternoon, I was about 6-8 years old and was spending the weekend with my cousin and where they lived, cable was available! It was in late November or early December, so too cold to be outside for very long and we'd come in for lunch and my Aunt suggested we sit and watch some TV for a while. Channel surfing and ALWAYS looking for something spooky to watch, we came across the film, The Birds. We were mesmerized and terrified at the same time! Loved every minute of the film and that was my introduction to Hitchcock. Other faves from the master include:

-Rear Window
-Psycho
-The Trouble With Harry
-Rope
-Lifeboat
-North By Northwest
-Frenzy

and to a lesser degree; Vertigo.....the film looks wonderful, but I've never had the love of this film that so many Hitchcock fans seem to have.

I only have two of Hitchcock's films on DVD: Psycho(1960) and The Birds(1963), the latter one of my favorite DVDs in my entire DVD collection. thumbs up

As I am going to buy more dramatic films next year I have already put two of them on my radar:

North By Northwest(1959)

Vertigo(1958)

Have you seen both films, Lee or will these be first-time viewings? What about, Rear Window, have you seen or do you like that film? Frosty

I'll be very curious to hear your thoughts on both films, once you've seen them from beginning to end and if you do pick up, Rear Window, I think you might like it. Rudolph

Popped in, The Trouble With Harry, yesterday and that film is so gorgeous to look at, I'm not so sure the beautiful scenery and vivid colors may not take away from the story, to some degree. I guess there's nothing like New England in Autumn and this film certainly catches all the beauty.

Edmund Gwenn is most underrated in my opinion. I'm finding that I see more films of him, every year, but usually quite by accident. He's not usually a main chaacter or given the top billing, but the man has a presense on screen and a real knack for stealing any scene he's in, as well.

While definitely not what many would consider your typical Hitchcock film, this is one film worth checking out, even if it's a rental or you're lucky enough to catch it on TV.

I absolutely LOVE Alfred Hitchcock. He's up there with Rod Sterling (the Twilight Zone and the first Planet of the Apes writer) in my book. Both could entice you with their writing and turn you on your head at the end. My favorites by Hitchcock are:

Psycho
Rear Window
Vertigo
Dial M for Murder (I LOVE!!! THE SCENE AT THE TENNIS COURT!)
Rear Window
Man Who Knew Too Much
North by Northwest
and Birds

On a side note I also avidly watched Alfred Hitchcock presents and the Hitchcock hour on TV Land when it aired.

I must admit, I've never seen many of the Hitchcock TV episodes, but those I have, I enjoyed.

Dad and I were watching, Vertigo a week or two ago and he said not long after the film was made or just before, he visited that part of California and said the 'tower' wasn't nearly as high as it appeared in the film.
