This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju). -Lee "Packmule" Merritt site founder |

How did you "picture me"? Just curious, that's all. faster <!--emo&shifty eyes--> <!--endemo--> My "look" Corey tends to reflect my personality. I have been described by people I know as being a formal person, mannered, polite, but not the most outwardly friendly person. There have been, in a few instances, people I have been introduced to that were offended by my demeanor. As some one who must talk with clients(homeowners) on occasion I work on trying to be a little more affable(friendly) in my voice and overall mannerisms. It's a struggle sometimes, Corey, but I do try. Why not post of pic of yourself here to show off that red hair of yours?

Okay. Mr Green thumbs up No problem. I wasn't trying to be a wise guy. When I first started conversing with you on the internet I pictured with you with dark hair-no idea why, I just did. Good thing you've got red hair. The ladies like the red hair Corey. Every redhaired friend I ever had always had an attractive wife or girlfriend and that's the truth. :) |

:<!--emo&lol:--> Also, the photo I used was taken after a make-up session my Mom dragged me along to. If you allowed yourself to be 'madde-up', they took your photo and you received an 8x10 and a smaller 5x7. As a rule, I don't wear make-up, I have never had the patience for that and it's simply not my style.

Has the weather down your way been more cooperative, of late, Lee? When you have wash-out days, are you still paid or is that a day's loss of pay? I know, when I was still working, we had a blizzard one March and it actually closed the plant down, something they NEVER did. It hit on a Saturday and they closed the plant for Monday. We all had the option to use a vacation day or a personal day to be paid, but they wouldn't pay us, as this was an 'Act of God'. We also had a flood in '96, I believe it was and where I was living, I had water on either side of my hill, meaning I was basically trapped for a couple of days, once again, when I called in to tell them I couldn't come in, my one superviser asked if I wanted the day without pay or to use a vacation or personal day. |

For the most part the weather has been okay-a few cold days but mostly bearable(milder weather) Any hours lost to weather(e.g. rain) are not paid by my employer. Understand Kimi, the owner of the company I work for is 86 years old, and very "old corps." Before I began working for this company I spoke with several people familiar with the owner. They all told me this man was stubborn, set in his ways, penny-pinching, and maybe slightly(or more) crazy. I do not think he's crazy, but he is very frugal-he will not pay for uniforms, or for any health insurance for any employees. This is one way he reduces his costs. He also marks up his plant inventory quite a bit before selling it. I get: a week's paid vacation at the end of the year(in December) and that's it: no uniforms, no health benefits of any kind, and no sick days. The owner of this company has been this way with his employees ever since he opened this business., over 50 years ago. He has employed ex-convicts and low-IQ people for many years of this company's operation. This company I work for is respected, Kimi, within the landscape community here in Atlanta, but the venerable owner is widely regarded as being a penny-pinching, outdated dinosaur. The man knows landscaping in an out, no question, but his ideas and attitudes about workers and the workforce are, I think, clearly outdated and also, in some ways ridiculous. The entire bookkeeping operation of this company is done on paper. There is no computer. My boss, the owner's son, keeps records of our visits to properties in simple notebook binders. I could go on with other complaints but what would be the point? I will be working for someone else next year anyway-if not Home Depot or Lowe's then another landscape company...until Home Depot will hire me. The owner of the company I work for will probably work until he drops dead, as he refuses to retire. I personally like the owner okay enough. He is generally affable and easy to get along with, though he has some peculiarities. I do not plan, because of this company's lack of benefits, to work for this company beyond the duration of this year. I currently am trying to get hired by Home Depot or Lowes. I would allow for a lower hourly wage(a little lower) if I could get good benefits. Mostly, I just want to work for a large, stable company, where I can use my cumulative landscape experience, until I retire, in 30-35 years. My direct supervisor is the owner's son, who is slightly older than myself(he's 47). The owner's son, my boss, tells me that his father runs a successful business because he is a hard-ass. I disagree. I think his company profits are good because he doesn't pay his employers any benefits, and hasn't for 52 years. thumbs down |

Wow, I would imagine the no pay sick days or health benefits do make it tough. I know what you mean, complaining about not receiving decent benefits really is a waste of time, but you'd think in this day and age, the majority of employers would offer their people health benefits. I know Carol's youngest brother was working for a private employer and he didn't offer any benefits of any kind and it was tough, because he wasn't being paid much and then he had to pay for health benefits out of his own pocket and that doesn't come cheap, these days! Good luck on your effort to get a new position. :) |

I'm working on it. I just sent a resume(by email attachment) to a guy I do side work for periodically, and who also happens to be a counselor I see on occasion. He knows someone who used to work in Home Depot's corporate office here in Atlanta, GA, and that person has contacts that still work with HD. Hopefully I will know something soon about whether Home Depot will be my future employer. faster <!--emo&shifty eyes--> <!--endemo-->

It's always a big plus to know someone that know someone. I have to say, it's helped me in the past and it's helped that my parents seem to have a ton of friends that have been able to offer services and help. Not that my parents or I have ever taken advantage of someone being in a position to offer help. I guess by advantage, I mean we haven't abused their help. |

I have two landscape colleagues that work for the City Of Atlanta, working in several large public parks and smaller corner parks. Both "Thad" and "Brian" got their jobs by being referred by someone they knew that already worked for the city. These guys are both top-notch landscapers-in fact, Thad is a master gardener. The City Of Atlanta's general workforce(public services/sanitation/parks maintenance, admin, etc) has, as a whole, a reputation, and well-earned IMO, for being staffed with slack and unmotivated people, one reason why Thad discouraged me from applying for work with the City Of Atlanta back in 1997. He knew the kind of worker and foreman I am, and also knew the kind of work ethic prevalent among the vast majority of the city's workforce: it would have been an unhappy marriage. faster <!--emo&shifty eyes--> <!--endemo-->

I think if possible, it's always best to surround yourself with 'like-minded' people, when it comes to a work ethic. I feel very blessed that when I was working, the department I worked in was a small group and we all seemed to have the same goals and that sure made life a lot easier. Naturally, we'd get one or two people from time to time that didn't seem to want to attain any goal and were only there to collect a paycheck, but they never lasted long in either the department or company. |

Which is how it should be, Kimi. The problem is The City Of Atlanta retains, even promotes these kind of workers. thumbs down It is my stated opinion that some of the most lackadaisical, unmotivated, unprofessional, and colossally incompetent people on Earth work in the employment of The City Of Atlanta and Fulton County Government(this is the county of my residence). thumbs down |
