Anyone interested in checking out this double-feature effort from Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez? I have been hyped about seeing this since mid-February, when I first became aware of the film(s). Friday, we are heading out to see the film(s) and I have high hopes.....just hope in the end, I'm not disappointed with the effort.

I received my most recent Rue Morgue issue and the magazine has really covered this joint effort and it certainly looks and sounds on paper, as if this should be a lot of fun. They even have 'trailers' from the likes of Eli Roth, Edgar Wright and Rob Zombie to be part of the twin bill.

I have seen the trailers for Grindhouse(2007) and was impressed. I especially liked the rocket launcher/bazooka prosthetic wielded by Rose McGowan's character, and Kurt Russell's maniac driver character-the car chases and stunts look fairly wild. You can bet I will pick this one up when it comes out on DVD. nod

I watched the trailer for this film and was impressed. I have also been a longtime fan of Kurt Russell, one of my top five favorite actors. I have enjoyed every Quentin Tarantino film I have watched. No reason to think I won't enjoy this one either. I am less familiar with Robert Rodriquez's body of work, though I liked Once Upon A Time In Mexico, which was directed by Rodriquez. thumbs up

If you're at all interested in the film, I HIGHLY suggest seeing it in theaters. I've seen it twice now, a press screening last Thursday and with a friend on Saturday, and I can honestly say it was the most enjoyable theater-going expireance I've ever had. Being a fan of 70's expolitation cinema, I ate it up, and the rest of the audience got really into it as well. PLANET TERROR is more action oriented, with a healthy does of zombie gut-munching thrown in for good measure. DEATH PROOF is more dialogue based, but the final car chase is one of the best ever put to celluloid. Russell gives one of the best performances of his career, up there with ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and BACKDRAFT. I really can't reccomend the film enough, it gets two big thumbs up from me.

And Lee, since I know you're a big fan of 80's slasher films, there's a fake trailer in the intermission between the two films that I know you'll love. It's called THANKSGIVING, and it's in the "vein" (pun intended) of FRIDAY THE 13th, THE PROWLER and THE BURNING, all those great hack and slash classics from the bronze age of horror. Here's a link to it, if you want a preview:

The trampoline scene brought the house down at both showings I went to. B)

Thanks for info and the link Eli. Thanks also for sharing your take on Grindhouse(2007). I am going to go see this movie this weekend with a friend of mine. From looking over this film's official website and the trailers it definitely looks like my kind of movie. thumbs up

Note: I have The Prowler on my DVD ordering "docket" for next week. :)

You're gonna love it, man. PLANET TERROR is a pure adrenaline rush, and while DEATH PROOF drags a bit in the middle, the payoff is more than worth it. The stunts by Zoe Bell (who plays herself in the film) are astounding. Any fan of horror/exploitation films is sure to enjoy it.

And Lee, since you said you are not familiar with Rodriguez other than ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO (one of his weakest films), I suggest you check out DESPERADO, FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, and SIN CITY, the latter of which is the most accurate comic book adaptation of all time. He's one of my favorite directors, and I think you'd like his work too.

shocking Holy smokes! I've seen all of these movies-I had no idea Rodriquez was the director. I learn something new everyday. thumbs up Mr Green

Desperado(1995)-outstanding gun play and shootouts, arguably the nastiest looking toilet every caught on film, Danny Trejo's mobile cutlery show, and Salma Hayek! tongue-1

From Dusk Till Dawn(1996)- a truly bad ass George Clooney, one f*cked up bar, Tom Savini's crotch mounted pistol, Fred Williamson's Vietnam War recollection, and Harney Keitel as the ass kicking preacher. thumbs up Oh, and uh...Salma Hayek tongue-1

Sin City-Mickey Rourke made to look like the Frankenstein monster, Elijah Wood's truly sick character, ass kicking prostitutes lead by Rosario Dawson...and Jessica Alba. rockin

Unfortunately, I still haven't had the opportunity to see this...sure hope I can before the film disappears from the cinema. I'm definitely up for seeing this and have been since I first heard about it. B)

I actually went to see this the other day, which is odd as it happened to come out on DVD and cinemas the same time in Australia.....anyway it was a decent view but it's more of the thing best for the cinema because while I definitely enjoyed myself it's also not as good as it was cracked up to be. I will however say that Tarantino's effort Death Proof was his only good film in years but unfortunately served as further evidence of his foot fetish but in terms of quality was easily the best of the two films.

Planet Terror was a fun yet forgettable exploitation flick which had a habit for getting too silly for it's own good particularly toward the end....sure silly is good but it was too inconstant if I'm clear with what I mean....still it was good to see Tom Savini and was definitely worth a view.

Like I said not the master work many claim but sure is worth your time if you wanna see...I but I'm not sure it's substantial enough to be worth buying as I can see them getting old fast.

Having seen both "Grindhouse" films and also owning them on DVD I like them equally, in different ways. Kurt Russell has always been one of my favorite actors and he doesn't disappoint as the affable and also sociopathic "Stuntman Mike". Obviously the presence of many attractive young women was a plus. tongue-1

I also liked Planet Terror-more action and more quickly paced. And Rose McGowan., a one legged war machine!
