Here's some detailed information on the book: Eiji Tsuburaya was the behind-the-scenes hero to anyone who has thrilled to giant monsters duking it out over Tokyo—the visual effects mastermind behind Godzilla, Ultraman, and numerous Japanese science fiction and fantasy movies and television hits shown around the world.

"Eiji Tsuburaya: Master of Monsters" details the dynamic life and movie career of this legendary film figure, from his early fascination with aviation, motion pictures, and model building to his work in the Golden Age of Japanese Cinema to the ingenious technical innovations that brought miniature worlds and fantastic characters vividly to life.

Collecting hundreds of film stills, posters, character art, and dozens of delightful on-set photos of Tsuburaya instructing his monsters to crush one building after another, this highly visual biography also features rare profiles of the master’s collaborators, detailed information about his key films and shows, and special features on his legacy and the enduring popularity of the characters he helped to create.

Here's what I received from my publicist just today, We brought a sample of the book to [the San Diego] Comic Con. It was by far the most perused, paged-thru, and lusted-after book at the show. We featured the book in a special sneak preview catalog, encouraging attendees to pre-order the book on the Chronicle Books website.

EIJI TSUBURAYA: MASTER OF MONSTERS will be hitting store shelves this fall!

I got this book last December (also from Amazon), haven't had a chance to read it yet, but I had a look through and I have to say I especially liked the Ultraman section; it was a bit shorter than I expected, but the pictures were great! Especially that full-page photograph of Ultraman doing his specium beam... yes, the one that I always use as my avatar!

As Mr. Packmule says, highly recommended! ;)
Godzilla blast

Howdy Johnny! Long time no see. I hope you've been doing well. :)

Topic: I got my copy of this book in the mail(ordered from Amazon) about three weeks ago. It's one of the best books regarding the kaiju genre I've ever read. August Ragone has done a marvelous job with this book! thumbs up

Howdy Packmule!
I've been away for rather a while. Sorry about that.
I'm feeling fine, thanks for asking. Although - as usual - I'm busy with my studies.
But it's alright, just 2 and a half years to go! cross eyed
How have you been? big grin

Oh, it's certainly a brilliant book and I agree that Mr. Ragone has done a great job with it.
I hope I can begin reading it once I start my Summer vacation! rockin'

Originally, I submitted a 90,000-word manuscript to Chronicle Books and we had to cut it down to 50,000. So, as you can imagine, the Ultraman section was much beefier with more behind-the-scenes details about the production, including original casting choices for the series (very different than what we got). I've decided to save that material for a future project. :)

specium beam...

The official English spelling is "Spacium" as noted in my book--we discussed every aspect of names and how they would be rendered, and all of which were approved by Tsuburaya Productions--can't get more official than that! :)

Cheers!
