Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

OK, I was crazy-nuts about seeing this film when it first came out in......'93, was it? I have been absolutely in love with dinosaurs since I was old enough to know about them and I was pumped about seeing this film. I was working second shift at the time and was beginning 7 days of vacation when the filmed opened...believe it was August of that year? Anyway, grabbed Skeet and we went to the mall to see it and the first time we see the dinos.....while drinking at the water hole, I actually got shivers! :) Skeet and I watched it, then went out to the parking lot and I mentioned I could watch it, again. He said he'd be willing to, but we didn't that afternoon. I ended up taking Mom to see it, not once, but twice during that week off and Skeet and I saw it a little later, that Summer at the Drive-In, another friend and I went to the Drive-In to catch it and I took Michael and his wife to the theatre to see it that October.

When the sequel came out, I took a Friday off, so Skeet, his wife and I could go see it and that film didn't impress me as much as the first film had. When the third film came out, Carol and I went to a cinema to see it and then later to a Drive-In, I prefered the third film over the second, but still felt the franchise could have been done a wee bit better and not leaned as much towards a 'tween/family' film.

The first film will always be my favorite of the three films, but isn't there supposed to be a fourth film in the works? eh?

Jurassic World? Has a very "Planet of the Apes" sound to it. Just with dinosaurs instead of apes. And hopefully the dinos won't be hyper-intelligent like the apes were, because then you might as well make it Dinotopia.

Someone at MZ or TK brought it up as it being like Disney Land to Disney World.

Yeah, I didn't think of that until a while after I posted. confuzed

Well, I really don't see how it's going to bring anything new to the table, even if the park is bigger. Isla Sorna was an entire island to play with. Maybe if it's another company that's taken over and they're taking bigger risks, like moving it to the mainland or introducing dinosaurs that Ingen never would have dared...

I liked the first two. The third one was ok. I hope the fourth one is better. I wish Spielberg was attached to this though.

Yeah, Spinosaurus was a badass. Although, I do still hope to see T-rex back in the top spot again. With or without feathers.

There was some speculation that the Carnotaurs from the Lost World book might make an appearance in this movie. About a month ago, the director teased a new dinosaur and stated "you won't want to turn out the lights." Carnotaurs in the book were nocturnal predators with camouflage abilities that required you to flash lights on them rapidly to keep them visible.

Looks fairly good. I like that they made no reference to the past events. I kinda want it to be a re imagination of the franchise.

I can't really form a strong positive OR negative impression of this movie yet, but I will say this: at least the filmmakers are taking risks and trying something new by making up a new dinosaur. I'm interested in seeing where that goes. coolbeans

To be honest I'm sick of seeing Raptors and T-rexs. The dilphosaurus needs more love. It's only been in one movie.

There's rumors floating around that JW will have them in it but I doubt it.

I agree with Mr. "AMC has gone to hell"(that would be gvamp by the way clowny1 ). I'd like to see some new dinos. I liked the aquatic dino that launched out of the water and devoured the shark dangling overhead(from the trailer). thumbz up

And yes AMC has gone to hell I won't watch that channel anymore. The last good thing they had was Breaking Bad which I watched on Netflix any way :P

Damn, Tom no love for "The Walking Dead" or "Better Call Saul"? I don't watch either series but they both seem fairly well made.

I dislike AMC but give this channel props for some of their TV series.

For movies I have the following movie channels in my cable TV program package: Turner Classic Movies(TCM), The Sony Movie Channel, the MGM Channel, IFC, Sundance, FXM(Fox movie channel) and HDMovies(HDMov).

Topic: anyone own the first three JP films on Blu Ray? heyo3

I haven't watched The Walking Dead yet Lee and probably won't for awhile I find zombies in general over used. As for Better Call Saul I'll wait for that to hit Netflix. I'm sure it'll be good.

I own all three JP films on BD as well as the 3D BD of the first. I may sell off my trilogy set that I got and just pick up the other two indvidually (TLW:JP and JPIII)

Went and saw JW last night and it was fantastic. It had so many nods to the first movie it was great. Sadly based on what I saw in the film I don't like the direction the sequel(s) are going to take.

Jurassic World has the highest grossing opening of all time grossing more than $500 million world wide this past weekend. Making it the first movie to have an opening weekend at half a billion.

Domestically it's a few million short of having the greatest opening weekend which is held by The Avengers but it could meet or beat it. We have to wait for the final tally come Monday morning.

The first one is still the best but JW is very close to the first film it was really well done.

If it had a Dilphosaurus in it rather than a hologram of one I'm sure my feelings would have changed. Indominous Rex though was very impressive. She was quite the monster.

I went to go see Jurassic World at the cinema last night. It was a little bit silly in places, but It was still entertaining. My favourite scene was where the Mosasaur comes up out of the water and eats the shark. It was massive! Bryce Dallas Edwards (Who played Aunt Claire) was also pretty hot. Mr. Green
I love the B-Movies from the 50's, 60's and 70's. topper
