I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to place this film, but I;ve always kind of looked upon the films as epics, not really sure why, though.

Anyway, I really enjoy the first two films a lot. I never used to get into the second film until I picked up the boxset and now I really love that film. Recently, Bravo and another channel or two has been showing the trilogy as a complete epic with additiona scenes that were edited at one time. I'd love to see this released as a DVD set, in the correct chronological order and such, but someone told me this was a one-time deal and as seen on TV, it won't be released to DVD.

So, which film is your favorite from the trilogy? I'd have a very tough time choosing between the first and second film, as both films are outstanding. The final film in the trilogy, while not bad, it certainly doesn't pack the same punch as the first two films. Many blame the casting of Sophia Coppola in the final film....many feel she makes for a better director than actress.

You're correct to put it here as I believe the "Godfather" films(the first two anyway) qualify as "epics".

The first film is still my favorite, because of the sheer power that Marlon Brando brings to his role as the "don".

Agreed.

The sequel has really grown on me, over the years. DeNiro did an outstanding job in the role of, Vito Corrleone, if I'm not mistaken, he even learned Italian, so he could speak it during the film.

Brando was wonderful and I've also ready studio execs weren't so willing to have him in the role of the 'Don', but finally gave in. They did attempt to get Brando to make an appearance in the sequel, but that didn't happen.

Last night, while channel surfning, I see AMC was airing part three and I attempted a couple of times while going past, to sit and watch it, but it just doesn't work for me.

I read, more than once, that Marlon Brando had a reputation for being "difficult" on movie sets.

I also watched the third installment of this trilogy last night on AMC. Pacino was stellar, as usual. Andy Garcia was good, I think, as "Vincent". The most powerful scene for me was the ending, on the steps, regarding Michael Corleone and the ultimate fate of his daughter. (no spoilers)

I get a little confused on the time-line of the third film. I've heard this is supposed to be taking place in 1979? I just thought given the years of the first and second films, Michael and Kay's children would have been older than they appear in the third film.

I was quite surprised by the ending, myself. Michae's sister, Connie (Talia Shire) certainly changed dramatically over the course of the three films, didn't she?

Diane Keaton certainly, to me, looked older in the third "Godfather" film. I have always been fascinated, perplexed, and admittedly somewhat disturbed at how these Italian crime families can be so "family" oriented, having frequent family dinners and other social functions, then turn around and be so utterly ruthless when conducting "business". A strange mix indeed. freak out

I know, if you watch 'Clemenza' in the first film, they're getting ready to take care of someone and he tells the driver to watch out for the kids. freak out

My father made this comment, after watching The Godfather on television, one afternoon when I was a teenager: "Damn son, the only thing those gangsters seem to do is eat a lot and put contracts out on each other."

very funny

I don't believe I've ever seen, Hoodlum, but The Untouchables had a ton of promise, but somehow, didn't feel like it worked out in life, as it might have on paper. The Godfather III feels like a very different film that the first two. Perhaps I compare it too much and that ruins it for me. I would like to see a DVD release that puts all three films in chronological order, though. That has popped up on TV a few times and it's very neat, as it expands some scenes and some make a bit more sense to me, now.

There were many things that I liked about The Untouchables(1987): Sean Connery who played "Mike", the seasoned Irish-American street cop whose savvy really came in handy to Elliott Ness, a determined guy to be sure but naive about how to go about nailing Capone. Speaking of Al Capone I also liked Robert DeNiro's performance. I have longed considered DeNiro to be among the top actors of the last thirty years. Billy Drago also was convincing as the scumbag hitman hired by Capone. My disappointment in this movie was in Kevin Costner, who played Treasury agent Elliott Ness. Costner's acting was, IMO, serviceable, but as the primary protagonist in this film that doesn't cut it with me. His acting paled, IMO, to that of Connery and DeNiro. Costner's films, as a whole, are "hit and miss" with me.

"Kevin Costner" films I liked:

No Way Out(1987)
Field Of Dreams(1989)
Bull Durham(1988)
The Bodyguard(1992)
Dances With Wolves(1990)
Wyatt Earp(1994)

And the "Costner" films I didn't like at all:

Revenge(1990)
Message In A Bottle(1999)
Waterworld(1995)
Open Range(2003)

Same here, except here's my ranking:

1) The Godfather, Part II
2) The Godfather
3) Goodfellas
4) Casino
