In 1966 the Tsuburaya Productions Company(TPC) released Ultraman, a live action television series that ran for 39 episodes during 1966 and 1967. The story: an interstellar law enforcement agent, while in pursuit of an escaped giant monster named Bemlar in the Earth's atmosphere, accidentally collides with a vessel piloted by Shin Hayata, a member of The Science Patrol, killing the human. To make amends Ultraman merges his lifeforce with Hayata, and together, along with the rest of the Science Patrol members, Captain Muramatsu, Arashi, Ide(Ito), and Fuji, they fight menacing aliens and kaiju that threaten the world! --Post your thoughts and opinions of the original series here.

I grew up watching this series on television and it remains, to this day, my favorite of all the "Ultra' series that I have seen.

My two favorite episodes from Ultraman(1966-67):

Episode #3: Charge Forth Science Patrol!, featuring the monster Neronga.
Episode #31: Who Has Arrived?, featuring the monster Keronia.

Izzat so? My favorites would probably be the ones with Red King, and Geronimon's episode.

Red King was in two episodes: The Lawless Monster Zone and The Deadly Comet Tsuiphon. RK seemed almost goofy in the former, but was definitely all business fighting Ultraman in the latter mentioned episode. Geronimon appeared in The Smallest Hero along with Telesdon II, Drako and Pygmon. These are all good episodes. thumbs up

Red King = Coolest Ultraman monster. I love that pinheaded brute. Wouldn't a Godzilla vs Red King battle be magnificent?

Danny B's favorite Ultras:
1) Ultraseven: Cool weapons (Eye Slugger, Emerium Ray, Wideshot). Also no color timer weakness. Plus, the dude ain't afraid to fight human sized.
2) Ultraman (The Original): This cat can outfight all other Ultras...period. Badass mo-fo.

Danny B's favorite Ultra monsters:
1) Red King: Badass of the kaiju world. Fists of fury.
2) Pigmon: If I could have a kaiju buddy he'd be my bro.
3) Jirass: Hey, it's really Godzilla, y'know.

Danny B's favorite Ultra characters:
1) Hayata: A childhood hero. The man is too damned cool.
2) Dan Moroboshi: I really dig how Seven is the true identity while Moroboshi is the guise.
3) Captain Muramatsu: Effective and decisive leader.

Danny B's favorite "science team":
1) The Science Patrol: The first and the best, in my view. The spider-gun is crazy cool and the "beetle fighter" is dope. The team (Ultra Squad?) from Ultraseven is pretty damned cool too. All the others are just pale imitations of the first two teams.

Favorite Ultra show:
1) Ultraman (I've only seen a few episodes of Ultraseven but I suspect I'd enjoy that show just as much as the original)

While I believe Red King is an iconic monster in the galaxy Of "Ultra" kaiju his fighting tactics in his first appearance, the episode entitled The Lawless Monster Zone were good against Chandra(the winged monster he fought earlier in the episode) but bumbling against Ultraman. Of course, he returned, and with a more aggressive disposition I think, in The Rogue Comet Tsuiphon.

Possibly, but unless Red King was given some kind of beam weapon(s) this battle would, I think, be very short. tongue-1

I also think Ultraseven's close in fighting abilities are very good, even underrated-that said I agree with you Dan that the original Ultraman is still the best at hand-to hand fighting with kaiju. thumbs up
"Ro-Dan"

mo-fo
At the risk of sounding like an ignorant old geezer what does this mean? It appears to be an abbreviation of some kind, but different from the various and sundry "internet' abbreviations I see all the time from teenagers, like "teh", "roxorz" and one I especially hate, "XD."

"Ro-Dan"

Red King: Badass of the kaiju world. Fists of fury
If were to assign the words "bad ass" to an Ultraman kaiju it would most certainly be assigned to "The Monster Prince", Gamora. This monster is sheer brute power. Even after having most of its tail blasted off Gamora still managed to take on the defense forces head on, and engage Ultraman in a second battle. It took Ultraman two full episodes to bring this creature down, and this monster managed to put a whipping(literally) on Ultraman without any beam weapons of any kind.
"Ro-Dan"

Pigmon: If I could have a kaiju buddy he'd be my bro
Good choice. I'd rather hang with the Da-Da's, but that's just me. tongue-1

"Ro-Dan"

Hayata: A childhood hero. The man is too damned cool
Agreed. Susumu Kurobe has always been on my list of "top ten people I'd like to meet".

"Ro-Dan"

Captain Muramatsu: Effective and decisive leader
Agreed, and IMO the absolute best Captain of all the "Ultra" series. thumbs up

"Ro-Dan"

The Science Patrol: The first and the best, in my view. The spider-gun is crazy cool and the "beetle fighter" is dope
Good weapons. My favorites: the cellular disintegrator bomb used against Gigas in The Rogue Comet Tsuiphon and the Sparenger Menace Cap used to obliterate Zeton in Farewell Ultraman!.
"Ro-Dan"

The team (Ultra Squad?) from Ultraseven is pretty damned cool too
Agreed and, I might add, had the sexiest female member, played by Yuriko Hishimi. tongue-1

You would enjoy Ultraseven Dan. In the words of that bearded guy on "The Men's Wearhouse" commercials: "I guarantee it!"

Did you watch it on YouTube or do you own the BCI Ultraman DVD set, Josh? heyo

The alien Zarab is a cool villain. I liked the way they rendered him as the "fake" Ultraman. thumbs up

Okay. You might want to consider getting that second volume ASAP because these DVD sets, by virtue of the Tsuburaya Vs Chaiyo ruling, are no longer being produced. They may become more scarce in the coming months, which would mean they would become more expensive. Just a thought. :)

Ok, yeah I remember Keith Aiken talking about that lawsuit. I'll pick up the 2nd volume as soon as I can.
