I got volume 2 yesterday. I'm going to go watch Destroy all monsters right now and if I have any juice left when that's over, I may watch an episode of Ultraman.

thumbs up I'm glad to see you picked up this volume Josh. I think you'll enjoy the episodes. :)

There is another tokusatsu(live action series) being released to R1 DVD by BCI/Ronin Entertainment in November: Iron King, a 26 episode television series that originally aired in 1972. I'm going to be picking this series up. August Ragone has had a lot of great things to say about it. Click the link to see August' topic about this series release at CHFB: http://p075.ezboard.com/Here-comes-IRON-KI...picID=291.topic

Iron King is scheduled for DVD release on 11/6/07.

I was reading about Iron king somewhere, I can't remember if it was Wiki or somewhere else. Nice to see more of these shows making it to region 1. Maybe I will pick this one up as well.

I just watched the second episode to feature Red King. I can't quite remember the name of it - something comet or something like that. I liked the episode though. I was glad to see Red King again and the monster on monster action before Ultraman even showed up was fun to watch. The last couple episodes before this one took on an "almost serious" demeanor but this one was back to good old campy monster action. I was wondering why, since they said Red King had swallowed that bomb, why did Ultraman take his head up into space after he cut him in thirds? Wouldn't he have taken his stomach region? Maybe Red King had the bomb lodged in his esophagus. B)

Perhaps it got stuck in his throat?

Would explain his being ticked off.

Would NOT explain his coaching Gigass, though... but that just added to the greatness of the episode.

That episode is called The Rogue Comet Tsuiphon or Weird Comet Tsuiphon. It's episode #25. It also features one of my favorite Science patrol weapons: the cellular disentegrator bomb, used to obliterate the retreating Gigass.

My favorite Science Patrol weapon: the Sparenger Menace Cap, used to destroy Zeton in episode 39, Farewell Ultraman!. Another great weapon, of course, is the Spider Gun, usually wielded by Arashi.

Thanks for clarifying the title. Next up is the two parter with Gomora; I had seen this on a bootleg or somewhere some years ago but it's been awhile. I'll leave impressions after I get through both episodes.

This two part'er, called The Monster Prince(aka "The Grand Monster") is a personal favorite of mine, both the episodes and the kaiju Gomora, a magnificent monster who, without any beam weapons of any kind, managed to manhandle Ultraman, in the first part through sheer brute force. In episode two, and despite having his tail completely blasted off by rockets, Gomora still managed to fight the defense forces, and Ultraman, hard before finally being defeated.

August Ragone has posted a nice blog about Gomora, a magnificent monster from the two episode arc "The Monster Prince" from the original Ultraman series: http://augustragone.blogspot.com/2008/08/monster-of-month-gomora-ancient-monster.html

Here's Red King Vs Chandlar, from the original Ultraman series episode "The Monster Lawless Zone", re-edited with music from the film Godzilla's Revenge(1969):
