Ohio St. lost to Illinois, so......

Who's still undefeated????

KANSAS JAYHAWKS!!! :D

Seriously though, Kansas has Missouri next week, and then if all goes well there they should play Oklahoma for the Big 12 championship game. If they win those games, I promise to take them more seriously. tongue and cheek

Just watched the Texas-Texas Tech game. I thought I was watching a WAC game because nobody played very much defense. Tech is known for their strong offense and QB Graham Harrell but Texas pulled it out in a high scoring game, I think it was something like 59-42 or something along those lines.

The Kansas Jayhawks are, this season, reminding everyone that they can be successful at more than just basketball. There was a time when Kansas was a perennial Big 12 conference patsy, and was commonly scheduled as other Big 12 rivals "homecoming" opponents. Kansas demolished Nebraska last week, which I'm sure raised more than a few eyebrows.

I watched the Illinois-Ohio State game at a friends' house today. While I was surprised the Buckeyes didn't win I wasn't shocked they lost. Illinois is a much better team this year and entered this game with a better W-L record than in recent years. This loss will be costly for the Ohio State Buckeyes and may drop them in the polls enough to keep them from getting back to a #2 ranking, which they would have to achieve at a minimum to return to the BCS title game.

I was surprised that Nebraska completely dominated Kansas State, winning 52-10. Considering how atrocious the Cornhuskers defense has been as of late, culminating in last week's defensive debacle in which they lost to Kansas 76-39, I was surprised at how effective the Huskers "D" played today. Still, Nebraska head coach Bill Callahan will, IMO, meet his ouster at the end of this season, a decision that will be made by interim AD and former Huskers head coach Tom Osborne.

As for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, they continue, annually, to put up impressive offensive numbers. The problem: their defense allows opponents to pile up equally gaudy offensive stats as well.

I was thrilled to see Ohio State got beat. Mr Green No reason, really, but I have never liked Ohio State. Carol's youngest brother, is a HUGE Miami Hurricanes fan and now living in north Florida, he doesn't get to see them, much. Being on ESPN 2, he asked us to tape the game for him, since this was also the final Hurricanes game at the Orange Bowl......what a game to have as their final game, there. what was the final, 48-0?! freak out

In their final game at Miami's "Orange Bowl", the Miami Hurricanes were blasted by the #23 ranked Virginia Cavaliers 48-0. Certainly not the way seniors on Miami's football team, nor the Canes' head coach, Randy Shannon, himself a former Canes player, wanted Miami's last game in this venerable old stadium to end. Randy Shannon has his work cut out for him in bringing this once powerhouse college football program back to national prominence.

Here's a link recapping Miami's lopsided loss to Virginia this past weekend:

Miami had the "Thug" problem going last year, an issue Texas was dealing with quite a bit in the early stages of this season, as there were about 8 or 9 Longhorns up on charges for various crimes. Some returned to the team and others never did. A common phrase for Police officers this season: Book em' Horns. freak out

Looks like the big college game this weekend is Ohio State vs Michigan, being played in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It's kind of hard to believe that the Michigan Wolverines, after their disastrous start to this season, including a loss(at home) to I-AA Appalachian State, can still reach the Rose Bowl.

If Penn State can't go for the Big Ten, I;d rather see Michigan than Ohio State head to the Rose Bowl. Gee, I hate Ohio State and not even sure why! freak out

In a move that I fully expected Bill Callahan has been fired as head coach at Nebraska, following on the heels of a 5-7 W-L record this year. Read more: http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/7483050?MSNHPHMA

Late edit(11-26-07): Georgia Tech head coach Chan Gailey has been fired after six mostly mediocre seasons here in Atlanta, GA. The link: http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/7491450

I'm a big Georgia Tech fan, Josh. My old man was a Georgia Tech graduate. I can tell you that 7-5 and/or 6-6 W-L records every year will not be accepted by Georgia tech alumni. My reaction to this move: thumbs up

I've watched a few of the "Bowl" games this year. I watched Texas beat Arizona St. in the Holiday bowl with their early 1st quarter 21-0 attack and yesterday I watched the Rose Bowl and the Sugar bowl, unfortunately watching both teams I was rooting for lose by big margins.

I dislike USC greatly so I was hoping for an Illinois upset like what they did to Ohio St. Im also sick of the Rose Bowl committee always picking their "home" team to play in that bowl. It seems to me like they just do it because it will sell more tickets, and it gives USC an advantage as well. I rooted for Hawaii in the Sugar bowl because....well because theyre Hawaii I guess. Well at least Missouri beat Arkansas.

I watched several games yesterday, Josh. I correctly predicted(at another message board) that the Georgia Bulldogs would trample the Hawaii Warriors, which they did, 41-10. Georgia had it's running game going, amassing about 160 yards, and three TDs, on the ground. Georgia QB Matthew Stafford was workmanlike, throwing for 175 yards and a TD. Georgia's defense never gave Hawaii QB Colt Brennan time to do anything. Also, Brennan threw interceptions. This game, IMO, is proof positive that in the vast majority of games pitting WAC teams versus Big 10 or SEC teams, the Big 10 or SEC team will prevail, and handily. The WAC just cannot match the overall size(on both sides of the line) and team speed of the SEC, Big 10, and Big 12.
I also watched Michigan upset Florida. I wasn't surprised to see Michigan win as they were clearly a different team than the one that lost their home opener to I-AA Appalachian State. What surprised me was that the Wolverines were able to run up 41 points on what was supposed to be a fast and athletic Florida Gator defense.
I also correctly predicted that Southern Cal would beat Illinois. I'm not a fan of Illinois head coach Ron Zook-his Florida teams underachieved and his Illinois team fell flat yesterday against USC. I do not think Zook is a good college head coach.

I made this prediction at the ATARI Godzilla forums:

LSU 34 Ohio State 17

(S)uperior (E)lite ©onference. That's what SEC football is. A 4-2 record which should be a 6-0 record.

There was a great deal of diatribe yesterday on ESPN about who really is the best college football team in the country. The Georgia Bulldogs got some attention after their dismantling of Hawaii, a team that had, IMO, absolutely no business whatsoever in a BCS bowl game. I think Georgia is a top five team but assuming LSU beats Ohio State in the title game this Monday, which I predict they will, then IMO LSU should get the nod as the Tigers won their conference division, then their conference(the SEC) and the title game.

Even though LSU played well in their bowl victory, I find it hard to think that any team was very dominant this year. There were so many upsets and so many surprises, and nobody seemed "invincible" this year, usually most seasons there is a team or two that does. This year I was dissapointed, for the most part, in the entire league. Every team that got to number one seemed to lose quickly thereafter.
