What surprised me was Florida blowing out LSU 51-21. No way would I have believed anyone could light up LSU for 51 points before this game. freak out

The microscope is on Texas now, big time, considering they are now number 1. Their schedule isn't too easy, either. They've gotta deal with Missouri and a surprisingly good Oklahoma State later this year, not to mention Texas Tech who look good this year.

Despite watching Florida State come back to defeat NC State last night, 26-17, I'm not convinced that the Seminoles are "back" from what seems like years of mediocrity. This team used to be a powerhouse, and was in a top tier bowl game annually, winning national titles in 1993 and 1999, and finishing in the top five in numerous other seasons. The Florida State defense is fast and very effective at sideline to sideline containment but the team's offensive struggles continue.

Regarding the ACC, I expect either Virginia Tech or Wake Forest to win this conference. My dark horse here: Georgia Tech. winky

Anyone care to chime in on the ACC and who will win this conference this year?

Haven't watched enough of that conference's games yet, but I'll get back to you on that.

Today's games: I watched #1 Texas trounce Missouri in a game that proved they deserved the coveted number 1 spot and I watched the awesome comeback by the Nittany Lions over Michigan. Crazy good game that was.

I watched Georgia Tech(my father's alma mater) find a way to hang on and win at Clemson. I also watched Ohio State dismantle Michigan State 45-7 in a game I thought would be a lot closer. With Buckeyes QB Terrelle Pryor and RB Chris Wells both playing well, coupled with Ohio State's defense, this team could end up back in the top five at season's end. Southern Cal's demolition of Washington State, 69-0, may impress BCS voters but I take their blowout win with a huge grain of salt because Washington State is a cream puff team this year.

I've also been impressed with North Carolina this year: head coach Butch Davis has done a great job in getting this team turned around.

Next week's matchup between Penn State and Ohio State(in Columbus, OH) should determine the Big Ten Champ. winky

Wow, Ohio State did manage to crack the top ten. And Oklahoma and USC are still looking good despite being one-loss teams. Texas Tech's throttling of the Aggies this past weekend has them looking good as well, but their upcoming game with Texas will show if they are the real deal.

Watched bits and pieces of a few games so far: Texas eked out a last second win over OSU despite a interception by MC Coy and a fumble late that almost cost them the game. Luckily for Texas, their defense stepped up and got the stops needed to hold OSU off. Close game at 28-24.

In other Big 12 news, Texas Tech just absolutely ahnillated the Kansas Jayhawks. QB Graham Harrell threw something like 5 TD passes and WR Michael Crabtree looked unstoppable. I would be embarassed to be from Kansas today.

Great game, I watched most of the game (flipped between this game and Georgia/LSU). I love close games like this, grinding it out until the last second :D

Watched the GA Tech-Virginia game played here in Atlanta, GA. Ga Tech lost, 24-17 and after leading at one point 14-3. GA Tech is now 6-2. They're remaining games are: FLA State(at home), @ North Carolina, Miami(at home) and @ Georgia. At best Ga Tech splits those four games as I cannot see the Yellowjackets beating either UNC or Georgia on the road. The Seminoles beat VA Tech today and look like they're coming around. Prediction: Ga Tech fades into the woodwork and finishes the year at 7-5, destined for another goddamn bowl I've never heard of against some 6-6 team from either the MAC or Mountain West Conference. vomitard

Cincinnati Bearcats WR Mardy Gilyard proves, to me anyway, that nice guys still can, and do finish first. In a recent game the Bearcats WR hauled in a pass and his momentum carried him into the first couple of rows of end zone seats where the Cincy WR inadvertently knocked down a seven year old boy. Seeing the boy was in tears from the collision Gilyard removed his helmet, gave the boy a hug and made sure the youngster was okay before returning to the huddle. The video clip:

Well done Mardy Gilyard! thumbz up

Well, the decision has been made and Texas has been more or less screwed out of the Big 12 championship game. Despite Oklahoma being a great team itself, I have to grit my teeth a bit seeing two teams which Texas both beat this season play it out in the Big 12 championship, plus Oklahoma still has a shot at the BCS title game. That's really hurting people around here right now.

The fact that Texas, which beat both Oklahoma and Missouri, is not in the Big 12 Championship game(while OK and MO are) is an indication to me that there's something definitely wrong with the system, both the BCS and coaches/AP polls. The computers say that Oklahoma is a better team but the actual game result says otherwise. Me, I believe in game results. Obviously some don't.

To those who continually say "Well, like any system it will generate some controversy" I say: any system worth a damn won't. winky

I have long favored an eight team single elimination playoff, much like the sixteen team playoffs in I-AA.
