I'm probably the only christian here. That said, I am not a "Ned Flanders Christian" that is, one who does not acknowledge science. I'm a Christian, yet do NOT take the entire bible literally. I believe 60% of it is symbolic. I say the Big Bang was the moment "Let there be light" was said, and that the "days" were really billons of years, and God just put the term days in so people back then could understand it. That said, I'm also 20% agnostic. I do believe in god, but do not believe his existence can downright be proven. There ya have it, folks . |

I don't know about that. There might be some other members, who have not posted in this thread, that are as well. I'm not really sure. I know KexMex is an atheist. I'm agnostic. Hopefully others will drop in here, who haven't yet, and tell us what they believe. |

I'm glad to hear that Smythe. One of the things I have always done, as a man, is be respectful of others beliefs regarding religion. I always will be. I know religion can be a hot button topic with many people. I understand and accept that, especially after what I've seen of religion discussions on various internet message boards. I believe debate/discussion of religion can be free of the negative things I've seen at other sites. |

Very good. However, try not to blow up at me if I correct someone's generalizations about us, for example if I get mad at someone's generalization that ALL christians don't believe in science. |

I'm not going to "blow up" at anybody, you or any other member here. As the founder and primary admin of this site I have an obligation, and one I take very seriously, to remain level headed and as objective as possible when a member dispute arises. Threads about certain topics, religion included, often need additional monitoring by an admin or a moderator to ensure that things don't get out of hand. Would they in this thread? I doubt it. That said this message board is growing, in members and in posts, that alone a reason for me to understand, and accept, that there may be "flare ups" here and there around here, in time. I've found that many members who engage in argument(s) are often able to work out their disagreements and/or misunderstandings, and without any third party influence(such as a forum moderator). My policy is to try and allow this kind of thing to happen. When a debate becomes personal I might step in. This is all hypothetical stuff and I'm probably getting ahead of myself here. I don't worry about member "skirmishes" around here. If it happens I'll try to handle it, fairly, to the best of my ability and hopefully to the satisfaction of those members involved. |

Ah, I am pleased to read this post. I am Atheist, but I HAVE considered the possibility of the world having been guided by a "God". If the Christian Bible held truth, I would think it'd be much like your post has described it. It's pleasant to see various looks on the big, vast Everything. I'm not preaching my view, as religions provide a large part of world cultures everywhere. That said, you are my favorite kind of Christian, mr. Smythe. |

Which begs the question: respectfully, if God's existence cannot be proven, then why believe he exists? ![]() I'm not challenging your beliefs here, only asking what makes you believe in God. Nothing more. Kex, when you use the word "a" in front of the word "God' in your post here are you suggesting that there might be more than one "God"? |

That wasn't what I said, I just wouldn't assume the Christian God to be right. The Muslims or Jews, for example, could be right. Who knows. |

What I meant by that is you can't downright do things like "This is what God looks like, this is what God sounds like" and prove he exists. It's more of a faith thing. I don't believe God has a gender, rather, I think of God as a force. Glad to clear that up for you, Mr. Lee. |

And therein lies the problem for me: I have less of it now, than I used to, and it seems to wane a little more with each other.

I'm an agnostic. I question the existence of a God. There are so many different and conflicting religions in the world. Who's to say who's right or wrong. If there were one, true God then shouldn't there be just one true religion? |

It's this kind of thing that makes me question, and continue to question, whether God really exists: http://my.att.net/s/editorial.dll?pnum=1&bfromind=7401&eeid=5932471&_sitecat=1522&dcatid=0&eetype=article&render=y&ac=-2&ck=&ch=ne&rg=blsadstrgt and

From what I've seen, American policemen hardly hesitate before resorting to either intense or lethal force. Ours are much nicer. But that's getting off topic. Wouldn't an afterlife world get rather crowded? |

That is debatable. In this case, and from the incident in this article, the police officer was absolutely and completely justified in shooting the man who, ordered to stop by the officer, continued to savagely beat the toddler. The police officer used deadly force, the only option left in order to stop this man, a word I use reluctantly. I do not consider any adult male, who beats a toddler to death a man. A coward and a sorry son a bitch are appropriate descriptions for such a male. |
