On a radio show this morning a theory was being discussed, regarding human mating patterns, and, as carzy as it sounds, some scientists believe over time that there may be seperate types of species of human beings. Because "pretty" people only generally mate with other pretty people, and "uglier" people only with other ugly people, these scientists believed that over time we will evolve to two species, an extremely well featured one, and another species of uglier, possibly even deformed, human "ogre" like people. It sounds far-fetched, and it probably is, but it was interesting nonetheless. I wonder how something like this could bring about the end of the world. It is certainly possible, especially if one side declared themselves superior and tried to persecute or segregate the other.

This depends a bit on what your definition of "end of the world" would be. The scenario you describe, which I actually believe remotely possible, could cause the end of the future split-race of humanity, but that would be about it. End of the planet Earth? Not so much...

Thusly, in a way, the world would not be "ours" anymore. It'd be the end of our world, and there'd be no history to record after that. cross eyed

You are right about the split human thing not causing the end of the earth, I guess what I was trying to say but didnt explain very well was that if there was some kind of civil war between these two types of humans, chances are the damage created, resources used, and lives destroyed would make a major contribution to the destruction of our planet. I dont want to think what the sky would look like should a group of people or some country or government began to use nuclear weapons freely. But given a situation like the one mentioned, I can envision this kind of battle being an all-out war of almost apocalyptic proportions. Maybe Im throwing too much of my own imagination into it, but Im still of the firm belief it would be an awful thing.

Given the fact, Josh, that there's no precedent for this kind of thing that's really the only way to try and visualize it I would think.

True. I suppose no one really could have imagined what the first two atomic bombs could have done until they were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Supposedly now, however, nuclear technology is far more advanced compared to then and I'm sure the effects of using this technology would be rather grave on our society.

Indeed. In fact, I'm fairly certain our military, and that of the former Soviet Union, have long had the ability(since the 1960's I believe) to eradicate all life on planet Earth via the use of a what is sometimes called "dirty" or "cobalt" bombs: these bombs are detonated, theoretically, at the Earth's poles, and release cobalt, a radioactive element that is very 'dirty", that is, very contaminating and possessing an extremely long "half-life", into the atmosphere. Winds carry the cobalt all over the planet, killing every living thing on Earth.

I once did a huge research paper, while in college, on conventional and nuclear weaponry of the U.S. and the U.S.S.R.-the things being made by both countries was unsettling, to say the least.
God knows what kind of weapons are being deployed now, unbeknownst to the public.

The world will end by the end of nineteen ninety nine... oh, wait... :)

I believe that the sun will like, start heating up or something when it gets closer to its own end, burning the life away from Earth before effectively melting it and its brothers from sheer heat.

Yeah that is most likely to happen. Godzilla blast

Like you I can see a future one day where robots, androids, or whatever else they're going to be called, are an everyday sight among society, much like in the films Artificial Intelligence and I Robot. I thought the movie Artificial Intelligence was marvelous. It takes a peek, at the end, about two thousand years into our future-there's another ice age and humanity no longer exists.

Have you seen this film Johnny? heyo

I own AI on DVD. I also think it's a brilliant film and HIGHLY underrated. The movie is visionary, plain and simple. Especially the last 20 minutes involving the ice age you mentioned and the sentient robot race that has inherited the Earth.

I don't think robots will take over the planet like in the Terminator films. Mankind's spirit is too strong to let that happen. We humans have one thing a machine never will...a human heart.

Here's an article that postulates what we, as humans, may look like in 1000 years: http://www.newscientist.com/channel/being-...l-evolving.html

I have read internet articles that suggest we may end up using up the majority of this planet's natural resources within 50 years.

As for the sun burning out, that's not supposed to happen for what, another billion years? heyo

4 billion years to be exact. By then though, mankind will have probably moved to another planet or moon or somewhere. They theorize and talk about this stuff alot on National Geographic and History Channel.

I believe it's very unrealistic that we'd have found a suitable planet to colonize and survived the probably very long trip there before the sun burninates us.

I would imagine that Noah Webster, seeing this word, if in fact it is a word, would probably roll his eyes. tongue-1

Personally, I like it. Much more dramatic than "burns".

Not to mention more comical.

But if it's not an officially recognized word, Kex, then it lacks, technically speaking, in functionality. groink!

What you're basically saying here is that we should never ever invent words.

Which of course means we can never adapt to new advancements in society. Therefore, I should be allowed to say anything I want, whether it's in the dictionary or not, as long as someone can understand it.
