OK, I'll admit it, I'm a HUGE fan of the 'Supermarionation' work of Gerry/Sylvia Anderson and this 1966 feature film from the Anderson's is a lot of fun.

The Zero X, a 21st century spacecraft is sabotaged on it's maiden flight to Mars and two years later, the Zero X is ready to try the launch, again. Enter, International Rescue, several members of the Tracy family will be there for the second launch to be sure this time, there is no problems.

Perhaps Thunderbirds Are Go! is geared towards children, but darned if I don't love this film. Several scenes are faves of mine, including Alan's dream about the 'Swinging Star' and the little music video that takes place in his dream....the Martian rock/worm creatures and all of the wonderful special effects for this film.

I also love the second feature film that was released two years later with the Tracy family....Thunderbird 6.

I admit to knowing little if anything about this feature...<hangs head in shame briefly>, but I will do some search engine on this further. :)

I really do love the various 'Supermarionation' series from the Andersons and it took me several years to actually see the two feature-length films, but TBS used to broadcast the features back-to-back on or around Christmas Eve at one time. I remember setting my alarm to 3:00AM one Christmas Eve morning, just so I could be sure to tape both films. :)

Yes! Mr Green That is a picture of the Region 2/PAL disc. I received both feature length films on Region 2 DVD for my birthday a few years back and then picked up the International Rescue releases for Region 1 and I have a feeling I could wear all four discs out, the way I watch them!

Once I saw the images after doing a Yahoo search(engine) I was immediately familiar with these characters. I have seen bits and pieces of Thunderbirds Are Go!, but not much more. They were on television, and I was still a kid. silver surprised

I never saw the series as a kid. I think the production year(s) was 1964/1965, so just before and around the year I was born. I never even got to see the series in syndication as a kid....wasn't until the Sci-Fi Channel used to air the series on their, Animation Station, along with Stingray and Captain Scarlet.

My favorites from the 'Supermarionation' series of the Andersons would probably be; Thunderbirds, Stingray and Captain Scarlet, although now that I've received some of the other series, I also really enjoy, Fireball XL 5 and Supercar, although they look quite primative when compared to the later 'Supermarionation' series.

Just exactly how were the effects for the characters done? Wires? Other mechanical devices? I've always wondered how it was done... question

Do any of you remember a British television series called Thunderbirds by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson and made by AP Films
It aired September 30, 1965 – December 25, 1966 it was filmed in "Supermarionation" a form of marionettes.

from Wikipedia:
Quote:

The series followed the adventures of International Rescue, an organisation created to help those in grave danger using technically advanced equipment and machinery. The series focused on the head of the organisation, ex-astronaut Jeff Tracy, and his five sons who piloted the "Thunderbird" machines.

I loved this show as a kid and now watching the show I'm amazed at how well this was really done. Everything is so large scale and yes you do see the strings sometimes but I feel it just adds to it. If you have never seen it I urge you to check it out.

here is the wikipedia for the Tv series http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbirds_...derbirds_Are_GO

and some youtubes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RzCB3VRruE

It's no problem. I've made so many goofs, both here and at other message boards, I've lost count. :)

Topic: the only member here I know who is a fan of Thunderbirds is Kimi, aka "KaijuFanatic". She may see this thread and post again here when she drops in at MF. She's been feeling ill lately so that might be a awhile. As for myself, I can vaguely recall watching this show, in bits and pieces, when it aired, but not really much else.
