Has anyone seen this?

It rather a popular cult science fiction series which has been running in the UK for a period of time stretching 40 years (with one break) and there has been 738 episodes.

So the question is for those of you who have never heard of the show is who is this Doctor Who.

The Doctor is an eccentric alien traveler of great intelligence who battles injustice while exploring time and space in an unreliable old time machine called the TARDIS, an acronym for Time And Relative Dimension In Space. The TARDIS is much larger on the inside than on the outside and, due to a malfunction of its Chameleon Circuit is stuck in the shape of a 1950s-style British police box.

He is a Time Lords from the planet Gallifrey, As a Time Lord, the Doctor has the ability to "regenerate" his body when near death for a total of thirteen incarnations (although at least one Time Lord, The Master, has managed to circumvent this). To date, the Doctor has gone through this process and its resulting after-effects on nine occasions, with each of his incarnations having his own quirks and abilities but otherwise sharing the memories and experience of the previous incarnations.

Notable adversaries of the include the Autons, the Cybermen, the Sontarans, the Zygons, the Sea Devils, the Silurians, the Ice Warriors, the Wirrn, the Yeti, Davros (the creator of the Daleks), the Master (a Time Lord with a thirst for universal conquest), and, most notably, the Daleks. the Slitheen, the Ood, and the Judoon.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actors who have played the doctor.

First Doctor, played by William Hartnell (1963–1966)
Second Doctor, played by Patrick Troughton (1966–1969)
Third Doctor, played by Jon Pertwee (1970–1974)
Fourth Doctor, played by Tom Baker (1974–1981)
Fifth Doctor, played by Peter Davison (1981–1984)
Sixth Doctor, played by Colin Baker (1984–1986)
Seventh Doctor, played by Sylvester McCoy (1987–1989)
Eighth Doctor, played by Paul McGann (1996)
Ninth Doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston (2005)
Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant (2005–present)

I've seen a handful of episodes(not recently) featuring Tom Baker in the role. Admittedly I'm not well versed at all in the "Dr. Who" franchise. freak out

In my opinion Tom baker was the best Doctor from the classic series and the remake is pretty good, my daughter loves it and can not wait for it return to our screens.

I can remember seeing episodes of Doctor Who featuring Tom Baker on a local Public Broadcasting station here in Atlanta, GA back in the mid and late 1980's. I'll have to go back and try to get myself a little more up to speed on the character. Any good websites for the "Dr. Who" character? heyo

Straight to the horses mouth I say.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/

These are the people who produce the series so have some details on there although there are lots of others that have rumour about what is to come on the series.

As a side not there has been a number of off shoot series but the best one I think and aimed more at adults is Torchwood.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchwood/

More of an adult theme to it, presently showing on BB1 (UK) at 9pm

In the past couple of weeks or so I watched the first two seasons of the new Doctor Who show. That includes the first Christmas special.

This show completely blew me away. This is one of the best sci-fi shows I've ever seen. The ending of season 2 is incredibly sad and spectacular at the same time. There are a few shows which I might call the best tv show ever made, and now Doctor Who is one of them. This show is amazing.

After I watch all of the new Doctor Who I should consider checking out the previous 8 doctors.

I just an internet article recently that said David Tennant is leaving the current "Doctor Who" series.

One other note: Freema Agyeman is a cutie! tongue-2

Yeah I read that too. It's a terrible shame. After Eccleston left I thought I couldn't get used to a new Doctor, but David Tennant proved himself more than worthy. But now that he's leaving I can't imagine how they could fine someone as good as Eccleston or Tennant. I wish they would have stayed in the show longer.

Haven't gotten to her yet. Mr. Smiles Right now I'm missing Billie Piper/Rose Tyler after the season 2 finale. That was one of the saddest things I've ever seen in a tv show or movie. It's very rare for me to get that emotional over a tv show or movie, but in this case I was getting a bit watery-eyed there. This show really resonates with me.

Really looking forward to seasons 3 and 4, and the 4 specials that will come after those. I'm glad I've got that much David Tennant left to watch.

It's official. The man to play the 11th Doctor is...

Matt Smith. At 26, he's the youngest actor ever to play the Doctor.

Bummer. I was kind of hoping for Paterson Joseph, or at least someone in their 30s or 40s. I guess I'll just wait and see. After Eccleston left, I wasn't sure if I'd want to keep watching, but I then ended up liking Tennant even more than Eccleston. Now I don't know if I'll want to watch or not after Tennant leaves. This Matt Smith is gonna have to really impress me.
