I'll say right off the bat the I'm a huge Castlevania fan, I've played nearly all of them and am glad the series is still running strong after 2 decades. Anything Castlevania can be discussed here.

It's probably safe to say I'm a pretty big fan of the Castlevania legacy. I own a good majority of the games released and have been playing them since the early titles on the NES. One of my all time fave games is Castlevania 4 for the SuperNes, which is in my top 10 SNES games of all time. I feel this title really expanded on everything that made the series great, and besides the graphical facelift, the soundtrack to this title was superb and I still listen to it on CD pretty regularly. Speaking of Castlevania audio, I own soundtrack CD's to 5 of the games released.

Most of them are pretty good....however like many games it didn't make the shift into 3D very well with the abysmal N64 entries and even the PS2 ones left alot to be desired as they kinda grew pretty dull after a while like a more lifeless version of Devil May Cry.

True. The N64 titles were somewhat painful, I played through the first but couldn't bring myself to go all the way through the second one. I also agree with your assessment of the PS2 versions- I found them to be decent but they didn't hold a candle to the DMC series.

very true, it's odd how they still are realeasing great titles....but all on handheld but even then as great as each passing game is they have all been in Symphony of the Night's shadow, which isn't anything to be ashamed of as it's actually my favourite platformer of all time amd plus the semm to be getting back to that standard now anyway. I've gotta say that they really hit their stride when it adopted elements of Super Meteroid and RPG's.

I don't own a Nintendo DS or PSP so I havent yet been able to experience the Castlevania titles on those portables...I was however able to play a couple of the GBA titles, which I found to be pretty enjoyable "mini" versions of Symphony Of The Night. The item inventory system and "leveling up" RPG elements of these Castlevania titles definetly helped the series become better despite the fact it remained in 2-D while most games had switched over to polygons.

The DS game are better then the GBA titles but still not fully upto Symphony.....kinda somewhere in between...the graphics definitely are looking alot closer. If you end up getting a DS Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruit are both 2 of the better Castlevania games made and are worth getting a DS just for them. Let alone other good DS games.

I'll try these games if I ever get a DS, but with all the restrictions on my time lately, I really don't have the time for another game system. I'd love to play them but I havent even finished some of the 360/PS3 games I've picked up. That said, I still want to download the XBLA version of symphony of the night, I just havent done it yet for the same reason of just not having the time for it.

I would really love to play Symphony of the Night again.....I guess I'll have to download the ISO of it and burn it to a CD because I never actually owned the game but knew a friend who had it and borrowed if for a while.

I love Castlevania.

I loved HOD, COTM, and AOS.

My boyfriend is currently playing the one for the xbox, and the playstation.

I haven't gotten around to checking them out yet.

Castlevania is a long-running and much loved series, though some will say the recent 3-D installments have soured the franchise. Regardless, there are still alot of titles in the run considered to be classics, such as Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest for the NES or Symphony of the Night for the PS1.

One of my favourite series, although I haven't played all of them yet. My favourite game so far is "Castlevania - Legacy of Darkness" and I'm probably one of the few who really like this game. I really love the game's atmosphere and I believe that it was quite successful in shifting to 3D. I didn't bother with its N64 predecessor, as it's mostly just an unfinished version of LOD.
Anyway, it's closely followed by "Super Castlevania 4", "Castlevania: Bloodlines" (has one of my favourite game soundtracks) and "Castlevania - Dawn of Sorrow".
