...as for my OS I have Windows Vista Ultimate and I honestly do not under stand the hate it gets.
I've never used the Ultimate edition of Vista but I have been using the 64-bit version of Home Premium and it's not that bad. Well aside for some programs I have that aren't 64-bit compatible. I'm in no rush to upgrade to Windows 7 but if it finally makes use of multiple cores then I'll probably switch next year.

I'm also using the 64-bit version of Vista.

Maybe 32-bit has issues then? Also 64-bit seems the way to go if you want to use more than 4GB of RAM as 32-bit will only access 4GB.

I'm inclined to believe most of the issues are with the 32-bit versions of Vista because I did have a number of problems when I was using the 32-bit version that I don't have now. In any case, I'll take Vista over Windows Me vomitard

Here's an interesting article on internet browsers: http://my.att.net/s/editorial.dll?eetype=Article&eeid=6714051&render=y&Table=

I'm using Mozilla Firefox 3.5 .1. Seems to be working okay.

There's growing animosity from web designers and others who browse the internet towards Internet Explorer 6, Microsoft's eight year old internet browser. Why? Click the link to find out: http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/08/06/internet.explorer.six/index.html

I had no idea people were still using IE6...it's rather disturbing to be honest because it wasn't a great web browser to begin with and now you have so many choices in web browers. It's mind blogging cheeky

Does anyone here use as Sony Vaio laptop? The reason I ask is because I'm going to be getting a new laptop for school and also want one that can do multimedia stuff as well.

These seemed to be decently priced for the features they have like a Blu-Ray player and a HDMI out cable.

I just want to see some user opinions on them before going out and getting a new laptop.

Right now for me it's a toss up between a Sony and a Toshiba.

I don't but the owner of the company I work for bought one for our office back in December, 2008. Our office admin and secretary swears by this machine. I've looked at it briefly a few times: it looks impressive. thumbz up

Never owned one myself (never seen a model I really liked) but my uncle is an IT guy and he always praises how much he loves the Sony Vaio laptops. They are definitely stylish in design and are pretty good in terms of what they come with but I don't know where they rank in terms of gaming

Thanks for the info Trent.

I'm not sure if I'm going to get a gaming model or not I'll most likely get something that looks good and can do homework and stuff decently. I'm really not looking for a portable gaming computer since I'll use my desktop for that.

Well then you should be good to go then. I definitely gave them a look myself when I was in the market for a new laptop but the man reason I didn't get one was because the screen size I wanted was pretty pricey for that brand.

I have a question for anyone around here knowledgeable about "burning" DVD-Rs: I downloaded the American version of the movie The Green Slime into my computer this AM as an MP4 file. Can this be copied to a blank DVD-R? Would this DVD-R play in a DVD player in this file format?

That depends on the player if it also has DiVX support or not. If not you could always download a video converter and convert it to DVD format (.VOB, .VTS, ect. ect.) but depending on your computer speed it'd could be a very time consuming effort.

On my PC before this one it took me about three hours to convert a file to DVD and burn it.

Another option is if you have a PS3 or a Xbox 360 you could always stream the file to that, I don't recally you saying you've purchased either system Lee but if you have that'd be your best bet.

If you're planning on downloading the Windows 7 OS into your computer you may want to click the link for this potentially serious "bug": http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/146995;_ylt=AvmL1SN28dBUfQIVI_bVvOYxLpA5
