Produced after a five-year hiatus after the failure of Ultraman Leo, this series was supposed to be in it's own continuity, but it was decided it would be in the showa timeline mid series. To me, the music has more in common with the Heisei Ultras than the showas. The opening/closing songs are performed by TALIZMAN, an (at the time) extremely popular new wave group in Japan. Similar to how Tiga's OP was performed by V6. The human scenes are directed by Gamera series director Noriaki Yuasa, who does an extremely better job than in the Gamera film. The special effects are done by a young Koichi Kawakita, with the monster suits by Eizoh Kaimai. Kawakita does a very advanced job for the time, though it pales in comparison to his later work.

Opening 1: Ultraman 80's theme by TALIZMAN
Opening 2: Ganbare Ultraman 80 by TALIZMAN and Columbia Cradle Club

Closing 1: The Man with a Burning Heart- Takeshi Yamato's Song by Kouji Numata & Toru Fuyuki(Very pretty! I love the synth pluckings, very sweet)

Closing II: Chikyuujin dan yo(You're an Earthling) by TALIZMAN and Columbia Cradle Club.(My fav closing theme ever)

I only have one episode of Ultraman 80 on DVD-R. the one where he fights Ultraseven(a misunderstanding of sorts). I do like the opening theme song. It sounds very catchy.

I don't know much about Ultraman 80, but I find him ugly, his opponent monsters boring, and his theme song bad.

If I ever get to watch the series properly, maybe I'll find some good details about him.

(the monster Noislar, who sounds a lot like Telesdon from the original series)

A short promo clip, in Japanese language, showing "80" getting jacked up by a couple of monsters: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=55...earch&plindex=8

Suggestions: make sure your parents endorse your activity at this site, and, upon receiving this TV series on VCD, immediately make sure they aren't defective by playing eps from each disc(assuming you are going to be receiving more than one disc).

No, it's on DVD, but transferred from VCD, if I'm right. And besides that, I always make shure my mom's Ok with it.

Looks like, judging from this clip of the opening credits, the special effects are pretty good.
