Your Braves are kinda hard to figure out Pack
Tell me about it.

They have the talent to win, but I don't know if they can live up to the expectations that many have bestowed on them
The Braves rarely, at least lately, have played up to their potential. They're too streaky and I believe their starting pitching is, with the exception of Tim Hudson, too old.

Sidenote: Sad to see the Bruins lose in 7 games to their arch rival Canadiens in the NHL playoffs
Correct me if I'm wrong Russ but it seems like the Montreal Canadiens have pretty much owned the Boston Bruins for the last thirty five years.

If you wanna go back that far, yeah I guess so. (except for a brief time though in the late 80's and early, early beginning of the 90's when those Cam Neely and Andy Moog teams knocked them outta the playoffs a couple of times) They were winless against them in the regular season, but I thought that momentum would carry into Game 7 coming back from a 3 games to 1 deficit. They're a young team though, and they exceeded expectations this season. You gotta crawl before you can learn how to walk. Their future looks bright. The B's will be back.

The Stank Yanks are 14-14, their young pitchers are struggling, injuries are getting the best of them, (with A-Rod the latest headed to the DL) baseball life is good right now.

Whoa. Break up the first place Tampa Bay Rays. I don't think they'll be able to keep this up for the entire season, but I wouldn't mind seeing them win that AL Wild Card spot. This team is the only one from that expansion class (that includes Colorado and Florida) that hasn't finished over .500 or even made the playoffs.

I see Smoltzy is headed back to the bullpen. eh?

John Smoltz is 40 years old. Tom Glavine is around that age as well. I said it before and I'll say it again: these guys are now too old, IMO, to carry the rotation for the Atlanta Braves. Mike Hampton is a great pitcher when he's healthy. The problem: he never has been, for the Braves anyway. The owners of the Atlanta Braves, Time Warner, have set an $80 million budget for this team and is, IMO, only interested in seeing the Braves make a profit, and not win a World Series. Period. The use of aging players and re-treads from other teams, which the Atlanta Braves have been doing now for quite some time, is exactly why this team has hovered around .500(or a little lower) the last several years. As long as Time-Warner owns the Braves this team remains, IMO, a .500 ball club at best and a sub .500 team at worst.

It would appear that the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry often extends, unfortunately, way beyond the playing field: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8107040...HPHCP&GT1=39002

To each his own, I guess. I can sympathize with you regarding most regular season games.

Dan, there are rumors that the Detroit Tigers may try to sign Barry Bonds, presumably as the DH. Your thoughts on this? heyo

Congrats to lefty pitcher Jon Lester on pitching a no-hitter for my BoSox tonight. First place Sox, last place Yankees. We and the Nation are loving this.

NY Mets manager Willie Randolph has apologized for the furor(of sorts) created recently after he implied racism was a factor in how his performance as a manager was judged. Not helping Randolph is the fact that lately the NY Mets have been losing a lot more than winning, the team resembling, at times, the Keystone Cops on the playing field. Well, the Manny Era in Boston is over as my BoSox have traded Manny Ramirez to the LA Dodgers, and the Sox get Jason Bay from the Pirates. I know most of Red Sox Nation is in mourning as, even though Manny was being Manny, and was dogging it the past couple of games or so, he is still a potent and clutch hitter. Big Papi now does not have the protection that he has benefited from since joining Boston and now, with a three game deficit to the Rays, I just wonder now if they'll even win the Wild Card spot. Jason Bay is a nice player, and he may benefit from playing at Fenways, but he's not the clutch player that Manny is. I understand why Theo Epstein and the rest of the Red Sox brass did this, but at the same time, I think they should've kept Manny for the rest of the season, see what happens, then let him become a free agent.

Oh, and Griffey, Jr. goes to the White Sox.

I'd like to hear what Dan thinks about former Tigers catcher Pudge Rodriquez going to the Yanks. winky

Hopefully Braves GM Frank Wren will start overhauling the Atlanta roster now as it appears this team is out of contention.

Long time Atlanta Braves announcer Skip Caray has died. He was 68. Caray, the son of legendary Chicago Cubs announcer Harry Caray(also deceased), had been battling numerous health problems in recent years. He is survived by his wife and children, including Chip and Josh Caray, also announcers in the Braves organization.

As an Atlanta, Ga native I spent my teen years, and beyond, listening to Skip Caray on Braves radio and TV broadcasts and always enjoyed his wit, play by play calls and perspective on the games he called. He was one of the best, IMO, at his profession and was a part of the Atlanta Braves "family". He will be missed.

It is my supreme hope that the Philadelphia Phillies, as Russ so eloquently stated, open up a can of whup ass, Philly style, on the New York Yankees.

Prediction: Phillies win the World Series in six games. winky

Russ, your thoughts on Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa hiring purported steroid abuser and former power hitter Mark McGwire as the Cards new hitting coach?
