I won't be going this year as I had originally mulled doing. I will be going in either 2009 or 2010. I'm leaning towards 2009(next year), provided it's in Chicago, Illinois.

I would like to go to one of these but I'm thinking maybe when my little boy is a bit older so he can enjoy it too. That being said, I think I'll attend with sunglasses on...there's certain people that I'm guessing will be there that I really just don't care to see. freak out

On the other hand, Im sure there will also be some people I'd like to see also.

I can certainly understand your frustration here. Have you, or anyone you know living in Australia, ever given any thought to starting up a n Australian Godzilla fan group(or club)? I ask because I believe, with enough people interested, and within a few years, perhaps you guys could put together a nice little "G-Fest" con of your own, obviously nothing quite as grandiose as the G-Fest in Chicago but still something that might be fun.

I would love to....I just don't know enough fans to do and anyone I know in person who does only likes it on a somewhat casual manor...but unfortunately that to part of the problem with cult fan followings, they just aren't mainstream (hence the nature). Also I've found that alot of people consider Kaiju and black sheep genre like horror and many won't touch it with a 50ft pole.

I believe J.D. Lees offers each G-Fest on DVD-R every year for sale. Not sure but I've seen his magazine, G-Fan, offer each G-Fest's activities on disc for sale in this mag.

I may be heading to G-Fest 08 on July 6th-7th this summer, but I am still waiting for this to be affirmed currently. If I do go, I will be coming with relatives, and my father, who was diagnosed and treated for Leukemia somewhere around a year ago, is still recovering from the after-effects of cancer, which severely limits his mobility. His unfortunate condition has rendered him, to some extent, unable to travel great distances, so I may have to tend to him instead for the time.

As he was capable of making a trip to North Carolina and back within a weekend, I would say his chances of coming to Chicago are in favorable odds, yet the price is what still concerns him.
cross eyed

In the case I arrive, I am in conflict over what to do first. Has anyone else been there previously with any recommendations?

Sorry to hear about your dad, Vince. Monsterland gives all our best wishes to him.

As far as G-Fest goes...well, I am on vacation that week and Chicago is only about a 4 hour drive from Detroit so who knows?

Vince, "EternalMothra", a member of this site, has been to G-Fest. Not sure which one. It may have been the one last year. I've seen pics posted at his message board, Kaiju Galaxy, showing him and some friends posing while at the event. You may want to PM him or I could ask him to PM you. Whichever you prefer.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad's condition. I sure hope he gets better.

Again, you might want to PM "EternalMothra"(Donny): he might be able to give you some suggestions about attending and saving $. You might also consider emailing J.D. Lees, the founder of G-Fan magazine and one of the G-Fest organizers: http://g-fan.com/

Thank you for the concern, Ro-Dan. It's good to know that others offer their sympathy even when the time for its necessity has passed. :)

I may have to fly in; Chicago is quite a distance away from the south, and driving wouldn't be much fun... I may collect video montage while there B)

EDIT: Thank you too, packmule. Of course, it's been a while, and he's doing much better than he was before. His hair even returned!

And thank you for the advice on EternalMothra's knowledge. I will ask him in the future when I see him mildy smiley

I will be attending as a Guest of G-Fest this year and will be participating in several panels and presentations, as well as signing copies of my book at the Clawmark Toys booth in the Dealers Room.
