I occasionally think some folks just get a lot more comfortable in jail and not having any responsability on the outside. Look how many repeat offenders are in county jails. I realize many in the state prison systems are repeat offenders as well, but often of a more violent nature. I can't understand these county jail inmates that seem to almost have a permanent address in jail. shocked smiley

I love reading these articles.....I'm amazed at most, amused by many and yet, stunned by others!

And I'm sure these will illicit the same kind of reaction from you as well. Read on:

-in New York accountant Frank Van Buren recently ordered two(2) more ExxonMobil credit cards to replace the ones he had that were about to expire. ExxonMobil accommodated Mr. Van Buren by sending him two new cards. The problem: they subsequently sent him, by mail, two more boxes containing 1000 credit cards each, for a total of 2000 cards, and each also issued in his name.

-a Patriot surface-to-air missile was recently discovered in a Tampa, FL metal scrapyard. The missile was, fortunately, missing it's warhead, though it still had it's onboard guidance system and booster intact.

Rather than post a link to this article I am posting the entire article:

"PAINESVILLE, Ohio - A judge known for giving unusual sentences has ordered three men who pleaded guilty to soliciting sex to take turns dressing in a bright yellow chicken costume.

Painesville Municipal Judge Michael Cicconetti agreed to suspend a 30-day jail sentence if they wear the costume between 4 and 7 p.m. Friday outside the court while carrying a sign that reads "No Chicken Ranch in Painesville."

The sign and costume refer to the "World Famous Chicken Ranch," a prostitution house in Nevada where sex-for-money is legal.

Daniel Chapdelaine, 40, of Perry Township; Martin Soto, 44, of Ashtabula; and Fabian Rodriguez-Ramirez, 29, of Painesville, solicited sex from an undercover Painesville police officer earlier this summer.

Cicconetti has used barnyard animals to dispense justice in the past.

He ordered a man who called a policeman a pig to stand next to a live pig in a pen and hold a sign that read "This Is Not a Police Officer." A couple who stole a baby Jesus statue from a manger were sentenced to dress as Mary and Joseph and walk with a donkey.

Unusual sentences meted out by judges in the U.S. are becoming more commonplace. As to why judges hand out these kinds of punishments I have always felt the judge's motivation was to embarass and/or humiliate the person(s). Does this happen? In many cases I think the answer would be "yes." noddy

-a South Carolina prison inmate has filed a bizarre lawsuit against Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick over "stolen dogs". Here's a summary of the article regarding this story:

"South Carolina prison inmate Jonathan Lee Riches filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Richmond, Va. alleging that Michael Vick stole his pit bulls and sold them on eBay to buy “missiles from Iran.”

Riches alleges that Vick stole 2 pit bulls from his home in Holiday, Florida and used them for dogfighting in Richmond, Virginia. The handwritten complaint also claims that Vick would need those missiles because he pledged allegiance to the terrorist group Al Qaeda in February.

Riches, who is serving time for wire fraud at Williamsburg Federal Correctional facility in South Carolina, wants $63 billion delivered to the front gates of the prison.

Riches also wrote in the complaint, “Michael Vick has to stop physically hurting my feelings and dashing my hopes.”

From the article:
Quote:

Army brass will be back out at the house soon to talk about compensation for the family
Having been in the military, and having a familiarity with military bureaucracy, I wouldn't expect the U.S. Army's offer of compensation to amount to much: they might offer to patch the damaged section of the roof and perhaps buy the daughter another cat. As a cat owner, and as much as I love my cat I would probably turn them down if they offered to buy me another cat. <_<
