I decided that Freddy Krueger deserved his own topic here. Mr. Green

Anyway Im a Freddy fan, I really like the "Killer in your dream" idea, it makes it different from the other slashers before, the first one is truly well made, good special effects, good characters and good directing makes it a horror classic, while the sequels to follow were disappointing and lost the horror side (Well ANOES 2 is mainly horror, but it was more disappointing the the other sequels IMO, ANOES 3 had the horror/comedy side and New Nightmare was the return of the horror). winky

Freddy Krueger is one of my favorite characters, while I like a Scary/humor Freddy the most, I like him either way. FreddyK

Though not my favorite horror icon Fred Krueger I'm still a great fan of the NOES films. The original, IMO, is still the best. Here's the trailer: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=37...QL1oaWoBA&hl=en

While I found the franchise on the whole rather hit and miss Freddy has always been a great horror icon and I loved the 1st and 3rd....I'm royally pissed that Micheal Bay fired Robert Englund as Freddy claiming at 58 he is now to old to play the role

Personally, I don't think Robert Englund is too old to play the role of "Freddy Krueger" either. The franchise won't be the same without him.

I also liked the 1985 sequel, called A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge. The trailer: http://youtube.com/watch?v=EEzIyITaM_k

Well I agree he isn't too old...particularly under all that burn make-up...I mean it's Robert Englund that made made the role so iconic and to fire him from it is just an insult. I was never a fan of Micheal Bay....I've always kinda seen him as a hack but as a horror buff his has really crossed a line.

Nightmare 2 in all truthfulness was my least favorites as I felt it seemed kind of lackluster and had muddy cinematography that's more like what you'd see in a Telemovie....and the biggest problem is it's embarrassingly unintentional homo erotic undertones like the towel whipping scene...I don't know what they were thinking on that one.

It's still sometimes hard to believe that Johnny Depp made his theatrical debut in 1984's A Nightmare On Elm Street.

Slain, have you seen Freddy Vs Jason(2003)? If you have what's your take on this one?

on the whole it wasn't great....had it moments but i was essentially a gimmicky cash in that given the horror icons should have been far better then it was. While it was good to see Jason and Robert Englund return to Elm Street we had to put up with some of the most annoying teens since those dreadful Scream movies and there were other scenes that bugged me like Jason throwing people for miles which just seemed far too cartoonish and the dreadful caterpillar Freddy scene and the whole film was very heavily one sided to Jason so you instantly know who is going to win.....however to the films credit there are a number of enjoyable moments and builds to a suitable climax....so I didn't hate it....but I didn't love it either.

I really liked Nightmare on Elm Street 3...while not as good as the original I found really followed it up well as it's a more direct sequel then number 2, with returning characters and what not. This film I felt was the only one that could properly juggle both the horror and comedy elements. I found the sequels after this to undermine Nancy's achievements that cost her life which is why I felt that number 4 was an unfocused sequel which after all the Dream Warrior's were killed there weren't any Elm Street children left and the film just plodded along pointlessly.

In light of Robert Englund being out of the new NOES film I wonder if an unknown actor will be selected for the role or someone with a "Name" in the movie industry.

From what I gather the new NOES film will delve into the circumstances that led to Fred Krueger being roasted by the group of angry parents.

I can't accept anyone else as Freddy....also if they made a Freddy Vs Jason 2 Robert Englund will not be playing him anymore as Micheal Bay say that his too old for the part and it's time he steps down for someone younger to play the part.....Personally I think it's royally unfair as it undermines the 2 decades he spent playing the role.

Hopefully Michael Bay can get Englund into the film in some other role. Of course Robert Englund might not be amenable to that. I've seen that a "re-imagining" of "Friday The 13th" is going to be made. Mostly, I just wish Hollywood would leave these older horror classics the hell alone.

Amen to that....I mean we really don't need more crappy remakes that just are not patch on the original....frankly there aren't many remakes as good as the original 2 pop into mind 1953 House of Wax was a remake of the 30's film Mystery at the Wax Museum and the 1982 version of The Thing....for the most part I hate remakes they did a lousy Job of remaking Texas Chainsaw Massacre, dreadful remakes of House on Haunted Hill (dispite having Jeffery Combs) and don't get me started on the new remake of House of Wax....there is a saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it"

While not the worst on my list (that spot goes to Nightmare 2) but I really didn't care much for New Nightmare....it seemed overated...sure it bought it back to a darker tone but it seemed to have no new scare of it's own and lead us to believe that Heather Langenkamp has no friends other then fellow co-stars from a Nightmare on Elm Street and I really didn't like the new look for Freddy....he looked like a rubber witch that had been attacked by a cheese grater....though I did like that trench coat
