I decided that Freddy Krueger deserved his own topic here. Mr. Green

Anyway I'm a big fan of the series, mostly because of the "Killer in your dream" idea since it makes it different from the other slashers made before it. noddy

The first one is a classic with good special effects (For the budget and year it was made), characters and soundtrack... while the sequels to follow were not as good as the first and lost the horror side (Well ANOES 2 is mainly horror but it was more disappointing the the other sequels IMO, ANOES 3 had the horror/comedy side and New Nightmare was the return of the horror), I still enjoy watching them. winky

Also Freddy Krueger is one of my favorite characters. FreddyK

May I mention how insanely cheap the "Nightmare Collection" DVD set is now? I mean, why isn't it in the $50 dollar range? An 8 disc set which has the exclusive Nightmare Encyclopedia disc. I think I know one of the things I want to get soon since it is cheap.

Having the day off after my AM appointment at the eye doctor I sat down today and watched A Nightmare On Elm Street 3 - Dream Warriors(1987) and A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 - The Dream Master(1988). I liked the story line and characters in the third installment better but I preferred the creativity, and special effects, of Freddy's kills in the fourth film. My favorite kill among the two films: seeing the female who hated bugs turned into a cockroach by Freddy. very funny

Matthew, you like the third or fourth ANOES film better and why? heyo

It's prety nice, but it could have been better. I would have loved to see Freddy do something with Jason that was in the same vein as what the first death in ANOES3 was (talk about mater of puppets, eh?)

I've been working my way through the ANOES box I bought very cheaply about a month ago. This is what I thought

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET
Just about deserves it's classic status, still pretty scary and effective, quite restrained on effects, and the dream scenes don't take over. Tails off a bit towards the end though 8/10

PART 2
Not quite as bad as people say, with the best Freddy make up, but doesn't make any sense, has a weak ending, and am I the only one who has a dirty mind and picked up a gay subtext? 5/10

PART 3
I probably found this one the most enjoyable, fast paced, exciting, packed with creative ideas especially deaths, a bit funny, and a bit scary. Balanced it all really well 8/10

PART 4
Found this one too light to create any fear and it didn't even have much suspense for me, some great ideas though and really surreal in parts [the man turned into beetle death] 6/10

PART 5
Quite dark and morbid, mixed with some humour, an odd balance but generally worked well .Sadly the DVD is cut in a couple of places, I should have kept my video! 7/10

PART 6
This one, for me, had too much dream footage, meaning the dreams had little impact and tension was rather low. Fun though. I remember seeing the end of this in 3D on video and the 3D was rubbish! 6/10

PART 7
The cleverest of the series and actually pretty bloody scary, my wife was watching these with me and she couldn't carry watching this one! Slower, but builds suspense really well. Maybe the best? 9/10

FREDDY VS JASON
Seemed to rehash a lot from earlier Nightmare films, and in some respects is more of a Jason film [loved the rave sequence!]. The battle though is enormous fun 7/10

Nope, I also picked it up and I also gave ANOES 2 a 5/10. winky

It's good to see someone else give Freddy's Dead a 6/10, IMO it's the most underrated ANOES movie. Mr. Smiles

Personally, I disliked the rave scene in FvsJ... but I did like it more then the Party scene from ANOES 2. noddy

You must have expected the film to be blasted...because this review, if I read it right, labels the ANOES remake as being mediocre. winky

Mediocre is between good and bad. I want this thing torn down brick by brick. The only thing good about it is Jackie Earl Haley playing Krueger. Other than that, this should be the next GINO.

I agree with you, and the reviewer, that the casting, and performance, of Jackie Earle Haley as "Fred Krueger" is probably going to be the highlight of this remake. Still, it WILL be a DVD purchase for me when it gets released. tongue-1

Matt, did you see the review I posted regarding the remake?
If your talking about the review from "Ain't It Cool" then yes, I have read it. winky

Interesting, but the review needs to be fixed since it spells Krueger wrong many times and Freddy was once spelled as Freddie.

That is actualy a pretty popular mispelling. I am presently reading the first draft of the NOES3 script and they use "Freddie" instead of "Freddy" (yes, the script is from a reliable source). Plus, when Children of the Corn 3 was released on VHS, a quote from the Academy of Horror, Science Fiction, and Fantasy films use the "Freddie" spelling untill it was corrected on the DVD release. Talk about an interesting history...

Interesting, but I do wish people would take a little more time to research the name to get it right, otherwise if your going to write something (Like a fanfic) it weakens it IMO. winky

NECA, a collectibles company, is planning to release a Freddy Krueger figure based on the character who will appear in the ANOES remake film next year. A close up image of the figure has been posted on the internet, essentially revealing what actor Jackie Earle Haley will look like in full "post burn" Freddy Krueger" makeup. To see this image, click the link: http://shocktillyoudrop.com/news/topnews.php?id=12941

Remember: if you click the link you will be seeing, for the most part, what Freddy Krueger will look like in the remake movie "post" burn. FreddyK

My own take on his appearance: it's very realistic and sufficiently grisly...but I still prefer the makeup used on actor Robert Englund in the classic ANOES movie series. winky

Here's the image itself:

Spoiler: click to toggle

IMO the new looks doesn't look as scary or evil, it reminds me of what Voldermort would look like if he burn his face, so far from what I have seen... the makeup looks IMO worst then the Freddy's Dead makeup. winky

Hopefully in the film the look would be better. noddy

Are you suggesting that the Krueger makeup on actor Robert Englund was completely different for each ANOES film? I figured there might be some subtle differences here and there but nothing major.

It's always possible, perhaps even likely, Matthew, that the actual makeup on actor Jackie Earle Haley will look a little better...if for no other reason because Haley will be able to make facial expressions, something the Krueger toy obviously cannot do.

I thought I read somewhere that the director of the ANOES remake wanted the "post burn" Krueger makeup to as realistically resemble severe burn scarring and disfigurement as possible.

Yes, each makeup had something different about it, you just need to look at screen shots from each movie. winky

I just finished watching "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare" (1991) about an hour ago and here's my veiws on it:

While i do think the film had it's problem's, i still enjoyed it. I personally find Freddy Krueger to be enjoyable under any circumstances. Overall, i thought it was a nice way to end the series. 6/10
I love the B-Movies from the 50's, 60's and 70's. topper

You gave it the same rating I gave it, I'm also happy that Freddy's Dead is getting a little bit of love since it's really disliked by many other ANOES fans. winky

Personally I think its the most underrated Elm Street film, I agree that it's flawed but it does have things which I thought were good (Such as the musical scores). Mr. Smiles

I wasn't bothered by the scene since there are much more worse scenes in horror movies where animals are killed (The 80's Thing and The Amityville Horror remake are two good examples) and it's IMO easy to tell that the young actor moved the hamster away for the sledgehammer. winky

I actually am not bothered by the scene in "The Thing" where the dog's are digested by the alien. I was sort of disturbed the first time i saw it, but now it doesn't worry me for some reason.
