It seems no matter where I go I have to lay little seeds of comic books. I know Ro-dan actively reads comics and I've seen that some of you here have read some in the past. So this can just be the general "what's happening" in the world of comics. Ask who's read this issue, recommendations, talk about your favorite comics/heroes/series, what's happened in the 10-15 year gap of not reading comics, make fun of them etc. So let me start of with what comics have you read or like? What's your history with comic books? I grew up with comics and have been reading them for about 18 years now. My father was an avid comic fan growing up and literally had most of the original issues of the classic heroes (Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Spider-man, X-men, Avengers, all which have been lost...). I love the history and the stories to comic books. I read anything and everything and will give any comic a shot. That's me, what's yours? |

You beat me to it, Crow. Way to be pro-active! :) Anyway, I've read comics off-and-on since Junior High. I grew up watching Superfriends cartoons and loved the Superman movies and Batman TV series. I guess my comic book reading is an extension of all of that. My favorite heroes are Superman, Batman, Green Lantern (Hal), and Spider-Man. I also dig Hulk, Iron Man, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Power Girl, Captain America, and a few others. My current reading list includes: Action Comics All Star Superman Amazing Spider-Man Batman Green Lantern Hulk Secret Invasion Star Trek: The Enterprise Experiment Star Wars Legacy I'm looking forward to: Final Crisis Invincible Iron Man Star Trek: Mirror Images My favorite writers are Grant Morrison and Geoff Johns. These two men have re-invigorated the DCU with their imaginations and storytelling abilities. My 3 favorite artists are: Frank Quitely Gary Frank Steve McNiven |

Meh, I was bored lol. I'm currently reading: The two Avengers titles Secret Invasion Amazing Spider-man Cap America Green Lantern and GL Corps Detective Comics (Batman) Action Comics (Superman) Fantastic Four All Star Superman and intermittent Flash issues (waiting for Geoff Johns to start back up) Eagerly awaiting the run of the Flash by Johns and also Final Crisis and the next Superman arc featuring Brainiac. Also looking forward to Mark Millar's Marvel 1985. Favorite writers include Geoff Johns and Brubaker. They can't stop making great stories and at their worst they're still good. I've got way too many artist to even try to list lol. Favorite story arcs of all time: GL Sinestro Corps (Johns) Flash Blitz and Rogue War (Johns) Batman the Man Who Laughs (Brubaker) Superman Red Son (Mark Millar) Ultimates (Mark Millar) Iron Man Extremis (Ellis) and Armor Wars Marvel Secret Wars (Brian Bendis) with honorable mention to Civil War, Infinite Crisis/Crisis on Inf Earths and Secret War. The big events tend to get over bloated and convoluted at times. Favorite heroes have always been: Spidey Flash (both Wally and Barry) Green Lantern (Guy first followed by Kyle and Hal tied for 2nd) Hank Pym Ant-man (the unfortunate loser he is) and finally Daredevil. Villains: Ultron Zoom Magneto Brainiac |

I have not collected comics since about late 1995. When I did, a period that ran from about 1988-1995, I bought Iron Man, Fantastic Four and Wonder Woman. My favorite comic, among my old collection: Spiderman Vs Wolverine and an issue I had in which Ben Grimm squares off against The Hulk. I also had two longer comics, one about how Doomsday was created and his subsequent fight with "The Radiant", banishment into space and his accidental arrival here on Earth. This was followed by his rampage and extended battle with Superman. The ending was basically Supes and Doomsday absolutely blasting each other with punches...until both dropped. In the other, Supes encounters Doomsday again and is helped by some time-monitoring alien in luring Doomsday into this kind of black hole anomaly in space where all time and matter ends. |

Waverider is his name I believe. It was a great story. They have it all collected (even Doomsday's return) in a huge omnibus type book. It has the death of Superman, the return of Doomsday and exile of him to the end of time, Brainiac retrieving him from the end of time combine his intellect with Dooms strength, and Lex using him as a political weapon/tool and bargaining with Darkseid with him. http://www.amazon.com/Superman-Doomsday-Om...09383179&sr=8-2 There's the link to it on amazon. |

Thanks for the link Crow. I actually bought The Death Of Superman and the Superman Doomsday: Hunter-Prey books, back around 1995, from Oxford Comics, which was located very close to my residence at that time. I remember how Darkseid used his omega beams on Doomsday...and mistakenly assumed Doomsday was finished. The story of how Doomsday was created was, for me, fascinating. This creature was sent out, time after time, by its creator, and slowly survived for seconds more each time, constantly reborn in a tube to repeat the process. By the time Doomsday had "matured", it had hunted the planet's indigenous creatures to extinction and then turned on it own creator. In all of my years of reading comics, I have never seen a character as powerful, or relentless, as Doomsday. I remember the part in the "Death Of Supes" book where this thing blasted out of it's confinement by repeatedly hammering away, with one fist, on the wall of the thing that held it. There was the part where Doomsday, with one arm, punched and demolished that tractor trailer as it stood on the highway. Doomsday made quick work of Maxima. It was unsettling seeing Supes tested, and beaten so severely, by an opponent. Superman had had past physical battles but nothing like this. I believe Doomsday could defeat any Marvel comics character...with the possible exception of The Hulk. Not even Juggernaut, Onslaught or The Thing could withstand Doomsday's raw brute power. |

I have a decent sized comics collection from childhood, and kept some of them in great condition, while the ones from my single digit days are pretty worn. But I was never a big collector, more of a reader. I never worried too much about the value. I collected Marvel and DC for a bit, but mostly Spider-man. When Image and Valiant came around in the early 90's, I picked up alot of that stuff too, I have most of the early Spawn comics, and quite a few of the Maxx and Shadowhawk as well. For Valiant, I was big on Turok. Recently I've wanted to get back into comics but they are just so expensive nowadays. If I had the cash though, I'd be buying em up all the time. I was so interested in the Marvel Civil War story I went out and picked up the graphic novel. It was pretty good. Watching Captain America lay the smack down on Punisher was odd but satisfying. |

Nice collection. I didn't really mention the non-DC/Marvel comics due to people not really reading them. I love Valiant's Turok and the Maxx series (loved the cartoon too). I've been getting into Robert Kirkman's Invincible as of late too. Love some Alan Moore stuff like Top Ten. You're spot on with the cost of comic books. I've actually had to put my video gaming on hold due to the cost of everything. |

I'm so freaking happy about Barry! Never thought he'd be back after so long! I grew up with Wally but I've always loved Barry just as much if not more. |

Yep. And if Barry gets his own Flash comic, I'm on board! I think Final Crisis: Rogues Revenge may be the tie-in series to keep an eye on. |

Hell f*ing yes. I can not WAIT for Rogues revenge. Barry, Wally, Rogues, Geoff Johns AND Zoom? Might be the greatest Flash comic yet. |

A brand new Iron Man comic, The Invincible Iron Man, is going to be released next Wednesday. I'll be checking it out. Also, Jon Favreau's mini-series Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas will be released next week as well. Lee, you're an Iron Man fan, you may want to check out these two new Iron Man series'. Oh yeah, Secret Invasion #2 is coming out too! |

Woot! I'm currently a fan of Iron man director of SHIELD and I'm really looking forward to the Las Vegas storyline (I love Adi Garov). I think it has to do with an updated Fin Fang Foom. While we're on the subject, I would have to HIGHLY recommend Warren Ellis' Iron man: Extremis. It's the best Iron man story I've ever read, and I've bought the Iron man CD that contains ALL the stories from the original issue to 2006-07. |
