I used to read Iron Man back in the 80's. Around the time of the "Armor Wars". So, when Invincible Iron Man #1 comes out it'll be my first Iron Man comic I've read in a long time. The interesting thing about Iron Man is how Marvel is using him. With Civil War and making him SHIELD's director, they've really elevated Tony Stark into the leading role of the Marvel Universe. Everything that happens seems to revolve around him. Crow, do you read Hulk? I actually enjoy it and I'm curious to find out who this new red Hulk is. Plus, I wanna see the true, green Hulk kick his ass. |

http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=155675 /\ Really reminiscent of armor wars. It's the preview of Invincible. I've read a few Hulks here and there. I was shocked to find out Rick Jones is not only alive but the Abomination. So a Red Hulk with guns??? Hmmm, for all my Marvel knowledge I can't think of a related hero/villain who is related to the Hulk who uses guns and could be a potential Hulk.. I'm guessing it's a new character. I'm hoping some classic Hulk villains come in the series like Leader, Maestro, Harpy and Grey Gargoyle to name a few. |

Yeah Invincible's first story arc does kind of sound like Armor Wars, doesn't it. The idea of Stark hunting down other armor tech should be interesting. Actually, I think the movie's plot is somewhat similar to this, what with the Iron Monger and Stark attempting to redeem himself by keeping his technology out of evil hands. I'm fairly new to Hulk comics. I'm clueless as to who the Red Hulk is. Knowing the kind of Stories Jeph Loeb likes to tell I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of classic Hulk villains during his run. We've already gotten the Abomination in the first issue. |

Well I screwed up. Free comic book day was yesterday and I was going to try to make it into one of the comic shops here in Austin but just didn't make it. Granted, Im not off work on Saturdays and I had a few things to do, but I still should have took the time to check out the free stuff, and maybe browse the newsstands as well to see what's going on in the comic world. Ah well, I guess there's always next year. |

Sorry to hear this Josh. At least they have promos there. Here in Atlanta(GA) the premier comics book store is Oxford Comics. It's actually about two miles from my residence. I order the occasional DVD at this shop(that Best Buy never stocks) and that's it. This shop is very expensive and, with the exception of "Rory", the employees at this shop are generally, and usually, sullen and borderline rude. Oxford Comics, to my knowledge, hasn't done any promos(comics giveaways) in a long time. I believe there's a comic "con" in Atlanta annually. I know there used to be one in Charlotte(NC) every year. Have you ever been to one of these comic cons, Josh?

I have been to a couple small comic shows in California when I lived there, but that was back in the 1990's. I've got a few signed comics by some artists and writers from that period, I remember meeting a guy in particular named Norm Breyfogle who did Batman for a few years and he was a really nice guy, good artist too. The San Diego comic con is one of the biggest in the country and I lived in Diego for some time, but I never got my act together enough to go there. In the late 90's I stopped reading and collecting comics because it just got too expensive, so as a result I kind of dismissed the idea of going to a comic con at that point though I should have still went. Admittedly, by this time I was more interested in the bars, women, and going to the gym so I could get more women. I'm sorry to hear about the jerks working in this comic shop in your area, Lee. I have experienced a few visits to stores as well where many of the employees have an almost "elitist" attitude about comics and I've seen and heard employees of these stores badmouth people after they leave the store based on what comic they purchased. Unfortunately video game stores like Gamestop often employ similar personnel, often young men who seem to take their hobby a bit too seriously, in my opinion. |

I used to love Norm Breyfogle's Batman art. He was a pretty regular artist on Batman and Detective Comics around '90-'92. There are quite a few comics stores here in Michigan. All of the shop employees/employers are all pretty cool. Years ago, before the "comics implosion" caused by the speculator's market there were many more shops. A lot of the shop owners were real dickheads back around that time. Now, they're all pretty cool. I used to be the manager of a comic book store from 1996-2000. It was a real fun job but it wasn't enough to pay the bills, sadly. I do agree with the "elitist" attitude viewpoint of some shop owners/workers. Fortunately, I was never that way. I've always been pretty much a mainstream guy (superheroes, GI Joe, Star Wars comics, etc). However one of my co-workers was a big-time independents guy who, for the most part, ignored the majority of superhero titles out there. My viewpoint has always been if you don't read superhero comics why the Hell are you reading comics to begin with? |

I've got two comic shops I mainly go to here in Athens GA. The two owners couldn't be farther apart. You've got the laid back owner who has a beer and has casual chat and likes anything and everything from Secret Invasion to Sandman, and then you've got Mr. Elitist who doesn't decide what comic is his favorite of the year until he sees which independent wins an Eisner award and claims any mainstream writer or comic that wins is a talentless hack that got put in there due to or for the uneducated masses. Needless to say, I shop out of the laid back guy's store more often and only go to the other one if I can't find something. |

I'm always amazed by snooty comic readers. No matter what they read, they're still reading comic books. You're not "chic-cool" just because you read Preacher or Watchmen instead of X-Men or The Amazing Spider-Man. Superheroes are cool. They are--aside from Star Wars, GI Joe, and Transformers--what brought the majority of us into this market. |

Secret Invasion, Mighty Avengers, Avengers/Invaders, Amazing Spider-man, Invincible Iron man and Viva Las Vegas, and the conclusion to Action Comics: Superman "Last Son" all come out today... Looks like I'm broke again... The Superman "Last Son" delay really has gotten to me (and I sat through happily through the year long delay for Ultimates 2 final issue). It's been a year between issues, and on top of that, this is one of the most pivotal times in Clark's life. He's adopted a Kryptonian boy who's the son of General Zod! The story is not only written by my all time favorite DC scribe Geoff Johns, but also the director of Superman 1 and 2, Richard Donner. And it's all been delayed because of Adam Kubert. I have nothing against his art, but good lord! You don't give a year to his art! McNiven, sure, Hitch, sure, Quitely, sure. Kubert? He's stylized, but his detail is lacking compared to even "newcomer" Gary Frank (who's gotten all his issues out on time). Just because he has a lot of leeway and he has his own art school he's given all the time in the world to finish. If it were an alternate universe or another smaller character, I could understand, but Superman is DC's money maker! You'd never see a delay in the MAIN Spider-man book. Maybe Spectacular or and off shoot, but not Amazing, not for long. They'd just get a fill in artist. |

Gary Frank is amazing. Yeah, I can't believe how long this issue has been delayed but I got and I'm looking forward to reading it. Finally, we'll all know what happened to Zod, Ursa, and Non. Big week for me too. I got the following: Action Comics Annual #11 Amazing Spider-Man # 558 Invincible Iron Man #1 Secret Invasion #2 Transformers: The Reign of Starscream #2 ^Good stuff here! :) |

Wow, Amazing is already in the 550's! Sheesh it's been along time since I bought comics. I think I stopped buying them around the 350's. |

I was purchasing something at Barnes & Nobles yesterday for my friend's birthday when I remembered something I wanted to check for in the manga section. I looked and sure enough, they had volume one of "Deathnote" in the Japanese novels section. I have been a fan of Deathnote for sometime now, but aside from an episode here and there on YouTube occasionally, I have never read nor come across the manga series itself. I finished it today as well, and I must say, the plot line is incredibly well-thought out! I see it as more of a philosophical novel that deals with psychological twists and cliff-hangers, always some new detail that comes into play and makes the story more intriguing. --Vince S. |

Now that The Amazing Spider-Man is a semi-weekly title (what they at Marvel call "thrice-monthly") I expect the numbering to sky-rocket rather quickly. |

I finally broke down and did something I knew I was going to do sooner or later, I bought a small handful of toys. As a kid I was really into the Marvel Secret Wars and DC Super Powers lines from Mattel and Kenner, respectively, and I actually have saved some of those figures in a small box and still have them now, though most of em are pretty worn. I found an auction on ebay for a secret wars lot and picked up, for about 25.00 plus shipping, a collection of 7 figures including Iron Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Dr. Octopus and a couple others. The figures are loose but judging by the picture they look to be in excellent condition and include most of their original accessories including the secret shields. I plan on putting these characters in a safe place and possibly giving my son my old worn versions of some of these figures when he's old enough. I'll try to post an image of these figures. |
